I use both pre-poured pans and tubes. I like them both. One thing that has happened with at least one tube though: I have two schmincke granulated paint sets(tundra and forest), I was re- filling forest brown into a pan, and the pigment and binder was separated. I did stick a toothpick up into the tube and stirred it around for a couple of minutes. It helped somewhat, a little bit of binder seemed to be “glossy” in the pan, but it was ok. I do love the granulated paints. I have the forest and tundra in tubes. I have some pre-poured pans too, volcano brown, shire yellow, to name a couple. Have you had to deal with binder separations in your tube paints?

I just received the same set as a gift, but they switched out the gray for violet. I am working on my first painting and I'm really liking it. This is my first full gouache painting also. I normally paint with watercolors.

You can also refill your “disposable” finepoint pens (like Pigma Micron) if the nib is still good… just use tweezers to pull the nib, and syringe in some Indian/Bombay ink…. Which is both cheap … and waterproof!

Actually you need only the three primary colours plus black and on purpose white, and you be able to mix almoust any colour you need.

review gouache with a brush not a waterbrush. Also prep the paint in the right way. You spray the paint before use so it gets soft and useable. Waterbrushes add to much water.

Great video! Flushing vinegar through a water brush before storing will prevent mold.

That's also the reason why I rarely buy larger sets, I don't need many colors in there and I need others. I think it's easier for me to first exclude all mixed colors from my selection and focus on the single-pigment tones.

I think a good way is to buy a mixing set with three colors that act as primary colors to start with, to try out whether you like the medium itself and use that as a starting point for your own palette.

I understand Bristol paper is good for India ink.

Great video! Honestly a "regret" video often has more useful information than a "haul" video - it often shows pros and cons which is increasingly rare nowadays!

i think the color pencil was sharpened on the wrong side.

I downsized my mess of bad buys over the years and donated the still good items to other artists still new to painting. They were pleased and my art supplies are only things I will actually use. New painters on a budget are excited with ten tubes of less loved colors! 19:19

Thanks for this video! I was about to purchase the Kuretake water brushes. About the SML watercolor pad I've had a bad experience as well, although not exactly the same. It's very hard to be successful with washes, the paint doesn't move easily, paper dries quickly and bulks. Colors don't look bright once dry, and got the same problem with tape tearing the paper. The worst paper I've ever tried. I find plastic palettes useful for acrylic craft paints only.

My local art store told me that Prismacolor is no longer going to be sold in open stock so your only option will be buying sets. This was very disappointing to hear so I am switching to Polychromos which still sells in open stock.

i order online from Cheap Joes in the US, they have lots of samples of paper and the dot cards too.

you could try the bullet sharpener, it has a thicker blade, I don't remember which company makes it, but everyone says they won't change it after they got one. Markers in general sjoild be stored horizontally, I do not know if this was the issue, and the blender almost never blends, no matter which marker you use, only wipes or from light colours to white.
