This Crankin' Polkas show was broadcast on the Polka Jammer Network on June 28, 2024. Because of positive feedback, we have prepared this video minus underwriting ads and a few other segments unrelated to the theme. Pictures that are germane to the broadcast have been added for viewing pleasure. You can listen to Crankin' Polkas at www.wpjndb.com. We are live from Daytona Beach on Fridays from 4 to 6 PM. This polka version of the Hank Williams classic was arranged by Ray Skorka. On the band's "Love Notes" cassette, Maggie McCarthy joined Ray for a duet.

The Ablemen perform at WVIA - TV Channel 44 Studios for John & Dottie Stanky's TV Show. This was from the band's first of three appearances on the program. Matka, which has been recorded by many bands, was a huge hit for the Frank Wojnarowski Orchestra in 1959. Ray Skorka's arrangement stays true to the Wojnarowski version. The Ablemen recorded it on their "Polka Fest" LP in 1983.

"Little Children" was recorded as a polka by The Ampol Aires. Ray Skorka arranged this for the band as a ballad. The Ablemen recorded it on their "Love Notes" cassette.

This oberek, a huge hit for the Connecticut Twins in the 1950's, has been recorded by multiple bands. Drummer Jim Obrotka adds his humorous vocal on the chorus. The Ablemen recorded the song on their "Dressed Up Polkas" LP in 1984.

I was raised in Central Pa and have lived in NJ for 48 yrs and I never knew there were polka bands in NJ. I love to polka. Great music.

I'm not sure how many polka bands are in NJ now, but when I was growing up, there was a slew over the years -- as you can tell by the video. I was raised in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York. I have been listening to polka music for more than 50 years. I suspect no other state besides New Jersey has produced so many excellent polka bands and also the very- talented musicians able to play this type of polka music. NICE! A great lively *POLKA GROUP* from the past that I never heard before but they sure know what to do. This tune modeled after *POLKA FAMILY* ( and we all know them ) was great to hear.
