Drummer TJ Gates has a long career performing as a studio and touring musician, covering a wide range of musical styles from Blues, R&B, Soul, Funk and Jazz to Rock, Alternative, Country, Americana, and more.
Over the years he has played with popular local, regional, and national acts, including Wille Nelson, the Ronstadt Family, Rhonda Vincent (2015 Grammy nominee for Best Bluegrass Album), bluesmen Jimmy Vaughn, Bugs Henderson, and harmonica legend Howard Levy.
TJ has also opened for many national acts, including Martina McBride, Doobie Brothers, Jonny Lang, Doctor John, as well as blues greats Lonnie Brooks, Bo Diddley, Lil' Ed & the Blues Imperials, the Kinsey Report, Anson Funderburg and the Rockets, and others.
TJ has a reputation as a solid groove player: “I love laying down the groove and playing what the song calls for. To quote the great Steve Gadd, “Fills bring the thrills but grooves pay the bills!”
