Scrapwood challenge: Making a scrap cart completely out of scrap wood
I love an organized shop but scrap wood was getting out of control! We decided to use all that scrap to build a cart. Material costs were $0 but let's not talk about the time spent assembling the small bits of scrap into panels.

Found My Dream Planer and Jointer
Просмотров 120 тыс.Месяц назад
A few months ago I saw a listing on Kijiji (Canadian Craigslist) for these two old machines which happen to be my dream planer and jointer! They were manufactured in the 80s in Drummondville Quebec, Canada by General Mfg. Getting them into the shop and through our narrow doorways required some creative thinking and disassembly. With the help of our friend Brent, we were able to get these tools ...
5hp Dust Collector Install Short Ceiling Height
Просмотров 17 тыс.4 месяца назад
After 10 years of keeping my woodworking shop cleanish, my loyal 2hp single stage dust collector is being retired. Its replacement will be an Oneida 5hp Dust Gorilla Pro. The new dust collector is too tall for the seven foot ceilings of my basement shop. It might be a little extreme, but I have found a way to make it fit by delving down into the concrete slab. Making a rough sawn Canadian black walnut tabletop

In this video, I take some rough sawn Canadian black walnut and turn it into a tabletop. Base to come!
Wonderful job. I loved this video. Great work on those wonderful machines. Thank you!
Why you did not take the time to give them a nice new paint job? Mes félicitations!
Thanks! I actually really like the original paint with scratches from the decades the machine has been around.
Congratulations you rescued the worthy Giants from a throw out throw it away. Sad to see worthy strong, powerful, beautiful pieces of equipment just allowed to disintegrate rest and time and age taking their toll and even though it was a tremendous tremendous amount of work and many of us Woodworkers like myself could never do what you’ve done or not mechanically inclined just all the best. Congratulations now you have something you can enjoy to get all that gravity down the stairs oh my gosh what a job what an awesome job thanks for sharing. Wish you all the best. Now you have some massive equipment on I’ll handle massive pieces of wood and won’t even blink. Enjoy bye-bye just Jim
What is this building your in?
I think this popped into my feed because I was looking at a 30" Jointer near my house on CL here in Texas. Yes, that is 30" cutterhead! Basically the thing looks like a friggin aircraft carrier and instead of an arresting hook there is a massive spinning blade. There is a guard too, but that is just insanity. Congrats on your new machinery!
Have fun if you get that new planer! That's a biggie!
Very Impressive! The disassembly, the cleaning, polishing, putting in new bearings, etc., etc., the putting it back together and you! You know your way around a wrench and machinery! Awesome Machines...congrats on getting them and making them better than brand new!
Amazing machines I love restoring old machines like that. I wish my shop was big enough for them. I see great deals on them all the time.
"found my dream planer and jointer" god i wish that were me
It'll happen eventually!
Kudo's, really outstanding work. Those machines deserved the love you gave them.
Oh, a real scrap wood is used for a scrap wood project and not a 4x8 ‘scrap’ of plywood sheet. Nicely done!
It felt good to use up some of the scrap pile!
👍👍👍👍
Woo, a new video. Cute intro. I love that Milwaukee nail gun.
Those cutter heads are game changers. So quiet.
What struck me was the choice of plain sneakers ... just saying.
Those are MY dream Planer and Jointer! I'm way older than you. Bring them to me. Respect your elders. :P
Haha, nice try 😆 These are my end game machines so I’m not letting go 🙂
Nice job, nothing better than solid older equipment......
It can't be overstated how sound and I know how rare the investment of your time in dissembling, cleaning, and replacing worn parts in any used equipment you purchase. It's counter intuitive that a staggered spiral head cutter heads need more power to operate than straight knives but it remains true. I whenever I can after making a conversion to a spiral head I always try to replace drive motor with a higher hp motor that fits easily into the piece of equipment. I try for a non capacitor motor (you can disconnect a capacitor and see if it will start) as I don't need high starting torque or a fast start up and starting loads for the more robust motor are reduced allowing me to use existing starters and power cords. For equipment that is not used daily I lightly spray cutters and beds with CRC 3-36 Lubricant & corrosion inhibitor in any non desert location after each use this will payback many times in future aggravation and prep. time. Great job congratulations. Ray
Brass hammer.
Yes. I know what you’re referring to 🫠🫣
This was a joy to watch. I am about to embark on restoring a slightly smaller but equally mature Busy Bee B706 jointer. I ordered an A36 belt off Amazon but haven't opened it up yet; I saw the quick-link belt you used and it is what I didn't know I needed. Can you tell me more about who makes it and how you figured out which one to get? Gates has literally thousands of belts and zero of them have any meaningful descriptive explanation for those of us who don't wake up thinking about rubber belts.
You can actually just get link belts on Amazon. You’ll likely either need 1/2” or 3/8”. Probably half inch. You can customize the length of the belt to whatever you need. There is a rotation direction that they “should” be mounted but it is debatable whether it makes a difference. Good luck with your resto!
Beautiful in every way possible ❤️❤️❤️😎
Those are two beautiful old machines, Lovely to see them restored and put back to use.
Late to the show here, but great and simple tray. I need to do this also. Here's a suggestion for the interior corner squeeze-out clean up: take a plastic soda straw leftover from your last guilty fast food indulgence and cut the tip at about 30 to 45 degrees. It leaves you with what looks kinda like a quill pen. The point jams straight into the corner and bends enough to scrape the glue. The rest is easy with a damp rag.
Good tip. I’ll try it out next build.
Good fun vidio
nice video , I have some older machines in my shop on my channel.
I'll check 'em out!
Love the Dvorak background music. Barton, too. Neat video of some hefty tools! 😁😎
Good idea with subdividing the compartments like that! I made my own scrap wood scrap cart but just 2 big compartments and it's just ended up as a pile of scraps that i have no good way to sort through and find anything. I'll have to go back and try to add some smaller compartments to it and see if that helps me keep things in better shape.
It definitely helps to have the dividiers. I wasn't sure where exactly to place them so I just had them be a friction fit and that works really well.
@@gilgen_furniture Oooo, that's a good idea! I don't know if i can get away with that because I definitely didn't put as much effort into my cart as you so everything is all uneven 🤣 but a really great idea!
That was wonderful to watch. Thank you for sharing. True labor of love and with glorious results!
omg that was one of the most satisfying videos I've ever watched!
Those machines have probably never ran better or giving cuts that clean, I bet these now will outperform basically anything sold today.
I really dig this build. The scrap at the beginning made me chuckle and it was absolutely spot on. Haha
Yes! The things I've built from old flush doors - a desk, a light use workbench, shelves, and even panelled out a shed!
That maple has some nice spalting as well. Curious as to its life leading up to you….was it purposefully keep wet or did you just get fortunate in finding/ sourcing it like that? I’ve been lucky in finding firewood logs that I catch in time and mill them on my 14” bandsaw to turn into small lumber pieces. Found a few books on how to induce spalting which I’m looking forward to trying. Thanks for a nice video.
I just got lucky with the spalting. Got the lumber off of a guy selling it off of Craigslist.
Thanks to RUclips I am discovering so many talented Canadian woodworkers. Discovered Canadian woodworking magazine which highlights many of your country’s talent. You’re another one and I appreciate you showcasing yourself. I have also discovered the unique way Canadians have of saying words with ‘out’ in them…..as in ‘about’….can’t figure out what fascinates me about this.

Again, enjoyed the music choices. Bookended with a Christmas dance? But if you’ll be on a Ravel kick, are you planning on a future project to be completed only with left hand?
Oh my gosh that is such a good idea. As long as I can find a royalty free recording of the concerto!
Happy Christmas 🎅, and Happy New Year 🥳, Great way to keep tidy and safe,
Whitehead made the best jointers in U.K., weigh 750 kg but occupy little space.
Holy scrap!
Love it. I know the little block must have a name... you going to reveal? :) loved the outtakes, really fun video!
He does have a name!! His name is Scrappy 😆
Ha, i vote for future appearances. Someone has a talent for stop motion!
Bolero! Fun video, excellent music!
Love your humor. Love your graphics. Looking forward to the future projects.
Your shop looks magnificent! Time for a shop tour!!!
I love shop talk so might make one :)
@ that would be fantastic! Thank you!
I like this video a lot. Well done 😊.
Thank you! 😃
What is covering your floor, Jamie?
It is covered in foam floor tiles. They become detached from each other pretty often but they make it so much more comfortable compared to the concrete.
Superb, excellent video, loving your presentation style, keep it up. 👍👍
Thank you so much 🙂
one cannot laugh when one acts!!!
This channel is becoming decidedly silly, & I love it! I was, however, rather disappointed that before adding the dividers to the bin you didn’t take it out to the nearest incline & see how she drives.❤
Darn, why didn’t I think of that?! Ha, glad you liked the video :)
Self-hosting scrap! 🁂 👀

love the music choices
