    Why you dnot play epic ancinest. It is more real feel comand army left to right, also you can order units easily. Normal game may take 1 hour. But epic playing three cards also ends in usaully 1.5 hour also you may reduce victory bannera to max 10 not 14. So that when less unit left your time is not waste. Think a large board sane height 9 hex but width 26 hexes ancinest battles often fiught in long lines less height but long lenght if battlefield. Give it a try.

    Please play commands and color medieval it has advance adaptation of system. Armor class added. I think it must also be added to ancients, perhaps designer has no idea at that time , later he got. Elsewhere crsader expension is also coming you can start next series. Buy basic game and I will give you crusader stickers which can stick on any blocks and save money. Rule you can find if Pdf upload or learn them by any unbox video on RUclips by stopping video. Hello! I do have the C&C:Medieval base game and also the Crusader expansion on P500. I have played it a few times and I quite like it. So once I'm done with Ancients I'll probably continue with Medieval on this channel. I want to play through all available Ancients scenarios first through. Thanks.

      Bonjour! Yes, the Greeks really need some boost in this one as only having 6 units is a very thin orange line. :-) Cool scenario, but I think the Middle Gate scenario is more fun! Thank you for watching!

      I had to re-watch the last part of my play through of this as it was a while ago now. And yes, it seems the Carthaginian right flank cav has some problems with coping with the Romans. But in my general opinion it is a very even oob. Anyway, I really love the Punic War(s) scenarios! I will some day return to them, maybe with another system. 26:28 Missed the leader loss check, which could have ended the game. Overall it was a close battle. Pompeians tangling with Caesar at all was probably a mistake. Around 26:00, Pompeians could have moved the Medium Cavalry up on the ramparts next to the 2-block bow unit instead of just hanging out further to their right. With a lucky roll, they might have gotten two greens on the evade, but more importantly, next turn they would have been set up to clean up an attack. It was really crazy with the dice rolls mid game, though. Thanks for the playthrough. It was an exciting scenario. I look forward to the next one.

      Ouch, I hate it when I miss these leader loss checks...and knowing it will happen again and again. :-/ Good points regarding the cavalry. 14:23 - Libo could have also attacked the Caesarian light troops to the upper right after his advance after combat. They were down to two blocks and isolated. 18:28 - Maybe it would have been to greater advantage to start attacking the Caesarian leader's stack first, eliminating his leader support from the adjacent stack? In the end, I don't think the Caesarians could have won this with the cards they got and then the I Am Sparticus shutout. Thank you for the playthrough. I enjoyed it as always. I look forward the next battle.

      Regarding 14:23: Problem is that the lights could evade (even though only one hex). I think that is why I chose the other unit to attack. Regarding 18:28: Excellent point! That is how it should have been done. Thanks for watching!

    This is a very unusual scenario setup. Lots of strategy choices. The 3 card advantage for the Pomepian side doesn't really seem to be showing. The Caesarians need a couple of Double Time cards just to get back in it, I think. Looking forward to part 2.

    I just stumbled across your channel, and I like what I see. It's refreshing to see playthrough videos where 1) the player knows the game well, 2) doesn't use some artificial "solo" mode", and 3) uses some reasonable tactics. I look forward to watching more of these, and to your Great War series as well. Any thoughts of trying C&C Medieval or Napoleonics?

      Hello! Thank you for your kind words! Some comments to yours (I hope I will not disappoint you too much): 1) I sure know this system well. Still I make mistakes and forget about things every now and then, as you will see if you watch the videos and as others comment upon. 2) You will notice that I have been testing out different solo rules, even one of my own in the earlier Ancients videos and in the Great War. In my later videos I have settled for using GMT's/Stuka Joe's solo system. I do it because find it satisfying to not know what card I might be able to play the next turn. 3) Well, that is VERY kind of you. Again you will find my doing the opposite as well - reckless cavalry charges is my trade mark! :-) In due time my plan is indeed to play Medieval and Napoleonics. And also others from the C&C family. Again, I hope my answers did not disappoint you too much - and welcome to the channel!

    I just found your channel, as I am beginning to learn the Husaria system with Vienna/Parkany 1683. Thank you for the rules explanation, because the English translation I have does not include the part about artillery firing once per range in defense. I had to manually translate the Polish rules to find this. Will you be returning to Husaria at any time?

    • @AlmostSolitaire
      @AlmostSolitaire 5 месяцев назад

      Hi Paul! Happy to hear you found this channel, welcome! It's a pity that the English translation is kind of sloppy done. I feel they could get a wider audience to their products would they do a proper translation. About returning to Husaria. I'm a bit on the fence here. To be honest I have some issues with the system and how it represents battles. For me they have been a slug-fest until the last man standing. No army morale (other than the combat modifier thing - which I like) affecting a rout level and the games are usually very long in turns. So in that sense I'd say "no". BUT, I heard there is a Poltava battle game coming and I probably cannot resist that temptation. :-) Thanks for watching!

      Yes. If one were playing against an opponent I guess you need a really good hand to take the initiative and advance down the valley. Could be a good game but also a very slow starting one when both players just staring out each other while waiting to gather a nice hand. Thanks for watching!

  • @eric1752

    Excellent playthrough again. I thought the Caesarian side was going to win. 16:20 felt like another command decision point - Light Troops or Coordinated Advance for the Pompeians. I was thinking you would go for broke and play Coordinated Advance, bring Varos off the hill, and the unit of Medium Cavalry from the Left Flank into the middle. Good play on your part. The dice really hurt the Caesarians on their Heavy Infantry attack for one hit, and then at the end with no cards to play in the middle. Looking forward to the next scenario. Thanks again.

    • @AlmostSolitaire
      @AlmostSolitaire 6 месяцев назад

      The Dice Gods and as well the Card Gods turned their back to the Caesarians. As you pointed out the Caesarians not being able to respond in the center at a crucial time felt to me like the big deciding point. They were just too exhausted here to have any effect on the outcome. We'll see next time if Curio will be able to rally his troops for the final showdown at the Bagradas river! :-) Thanks again for watching!

  • @eric1752
    @eric1752 6 месяцев назад

    Thanks for the playthrough. 29:05 looks like an important command decision point for the Pompeians. Come down to strike hard with two units or keep the high ground, through pila, and wait for a line command or leadership card. The Caesarians look to be in pretty good shape right now, but with so few banners it could still be anyone's victory. Looking forward to Part 2.

    • @AlmostSolitaire
      @AlmostSolitaire 6 месяцев назад

      The Pompeians could have waited for a better card indeed. For the narratives sake let's say that the order was given for the whole line to charge down but only their left flank obeyed it. :-)

    I somehow missed the notification of this play. Wow! I have no idea how this scenario was considered balanced by the designers. I wonder if the Numidians had 4, 5, or 6 dice, if they would have a chance? Thank you for the playthrough. Did you get a new camera? The image seemed clearer this playthrough.

    • @AlmostSolitaire
      @AlmostSolitaire 7 месяцев назад

      Yeah it is far from balanced! I even changed the special rules to at least randomize the selection of Numidian units to activate - with the purpose of balancing it a bit. Still felt like a certain Roman victory. Not sure adding dice would do much either to be honest. Remember that two of the dice results are bad for the Numidian player (in retreating or losing blocks). I've used the same camera as in the last playthroughs, so nothing new there. Happy to hear that the image quality was better. Maybe I accidentally changed some camera setting to the better. :-D Thanks for watching!

      A solid Pompeian victory there. Not that solid of a Cesarean victory in my game. Had his assault up the hill failed to win the game, Afranius could have retaken the hill and held it. But some lucky rolls (e.g. the last leader loss check) did it for Caesar. Thanks for watching!

      Agree on that. Had not the Pompeian leader fallen in the last leader loss check they might very well have launched a counter attack up the hillock. Caesar's bunch would be in much trouble trying to retake that again.

  • @eric1752
    @eric1752 8 месяцев назад

    This was an interesting and good battle scenario. I agree that it could have been a battle-changer if Pompean forces had gotten a card to move in the center prior to Caesar's I Am Sparticus card. In a way, the hills almost were a Battle of Austerlitz trap for Pompean forces, because they took the hills and then were crushed. Thank you for the excellent playthrough. I hope that more viewers will find your channel and playthroughs. I look forward to the next battle.

      Indeed similar to the Pratzen heights scenario here. Here though both sides would have wanted to get up there first. Pompeans won that race, and Caesar had to take a risk and conquer it by attritional attacks. Had Afranius had time to respond they might have won the game. But the Gods smiled at Caesar this time. Thank you for your support and for watching!

      No sorry, I do not own any of the Onus games. But I have checked them out. Would be nice to try them out some day.

    Gauls 8-7. Barely won a rare non-roman victory. Re-watched the videos to see if I made any mistakes. I made a lot of errors for this scenario. I play my game while watching yours, but sometimes I lose focus. Good analysis for this one. Thanks

    A very different type of game - the Romans are up against it I think.

      Yep a solid line of Gallic warriors awaits them...but on the other hand they have Caesar! Parts 2 & 3 have good action - I can say that much without spoiling the story. :-)

    The Roman pre-battle plan to get up on the hill and engaged before the Gauls could call in their flanking force was executed to perfection! I felt the Gallic right was their strength and it was just wiped out completely. Thanks for the play. Very enjoyable.

      Vercingetorix was badly missed on the Gallic side. He would have injected the needed energy on their right. Romans were successfully executing their plan both on the map and outside of it - pinning Vercingetorix in battle away from Gergovia. Roma invicta! Thank you for watching!

    Wow! The dice gods are favoring the Gauls for a change. I would think that the Romans are already in trouble because the Gallic flanking force hasn't entered battle yet, but when Caesar is on the battlefield things can go very badly for opponents very quickly. I am looking forward to the next part. I think the Gauls will win, especially if they keep getting dice rolls like they have been.

      Yeah, Caesar can be a beast if he is in the right place. We'll see if he can inspire his men to assault the plateau before Vercingetorix appears in the Roman's flank. This can go either way! Thanks for watching!

    Rome 7-5. Thought Rome might lose for once, but the dice gods were with them. Good play thru as always. Thanks.

      The influence of the dice gods is strong in this game. One should also not forget to pray to the card gods! :-) Thank you for visiting!

    Parthians didn’t have enough room to maneuver. Fun to watch … thank you for another battle.

      True that! I have to say that even though I did enjoy playing it, it is not my favorite scenario. At least not with the solo rules. Maybe funnier playing player vs player. Thanks for watching!

  • @eric1752

    Roman dice rolls, the solo system with bad card choices for the Parthians, and the Romans ending up with the mounted charge cards. Just a perfrect storm of bad things for the Parthians. I'm not sure this is a good scenario design for balance. Thanks for the playthrough. I enjoyed it. Too bad about missing some of the turns. :(

      Behold Crassus the Great! Everything went the Roman way this day. The issue with the lost camera capture I suspect is the camera overheating. I have seen that before and it just freezes and stops recording. Too bad I did not notice that when recording. Thanks for watching!

  • @eric1752

    Oh boy, it looks like the Parthians are in trouble! Roman missile fire is eroding the Partian strength, just as Crassus probably had wished for in real life. Maybe a cataphract unit could be used to drive back the Roman light units?

      Indeed an event flow Crassus would have paid a lot of his fortune for. :-)

    The game changed history - with the aid of the dice and poor cards for the Parthians

      History will indeed change its path. Crassus the Great will be looked upon with jealousy by Caesar and Pompeius. A looming civil war ahead? Thanks for the visit!

      Yes. Feels a bit like C&C: Medieval where cavalry does most of the work.
