Discovering a Vintage Sony CDP-35 CD Player
Просмотров 12821 день назад
I test and look inside an early CD player, the Sony CDP-35, from 1986. Although it's nearly 40 years old, does it still work? Even if it doesn't, it only cost me $8.50 at a thrift store, so we're bound to get our money's worth out of trying it out and poking around inside!
Car Speakers For The Bookshelf?
Просмотров 108Месяц назад
With help from my cat, Scooter, I check out at a pair of car speakers I found at a thrift store that were set into home-built enclosures to form a pair of large bookshelf speakers. How are they constructed, and how do they actually sound?
Discovering a Panasonic DVD-RV32 DVD/CD Player

I test and look inside a Panasonic DVD-RV32 DVD, which is a highly capable DVD and CD player from 2002. It can play a wide variety of video and audio formats, including DVD-Video, VCD (Video CD), and of course, CD-DA (Audio CD). It features a 192 kHz/24-bit audio D/A converter, and has a very low total harmonic distortion (THD) that is rated at 0.0025%, which makes it an audiophile-grade CD pla...

do you know how to fix a altec lansing 221 ORANGE cable ? ?? i can't seem to be able to get it off i am sure it needs some soldering.
Will it work without the remote control? 🥹😭
I made that video a few years ago, so I don't remember. But as a guess, I doubt it: Bose tends to make integrated audio 'systems' that are highly dependent on each of the components that go together.
@@SomeDisassemblyRequired Thank you so much for replying! :) Guess I have to find me a new remote control, 'cuz this thing just doesn't want to power on.
I got a pair at goodwill for $20 too
Hi. Love the piano. I too have a Model K from 1906, three coats of paint, beautiful ivory keys and working on it now. Did you ever finish the piano and if so - care to share? THANKS!
Thanks for the comment. Although I play it daily, I've actually been living with the problems my Steinway upright has for about the past three years. That's why I haven't made the last next video in the series. I'm at the point where I either need to get going on fixing it or just pay a professional. Also, I've since discovered that mine is a Model I rather than a Model K. Those seem to be quite rare, though not necessarily more valuable than other similar Steinway uprights like yours.
Good but becareful next time.
Very good explained
i still have and use my 5860
Very cool wow! Just clean it really good, new stylus - and you have a fantastic turntable for years to come!
YO I GYATT TO SEE THIS APPLE
I doubt that you'd want to see it now that it has passed through my digestive tract. ;-)
Oh man it's so wasting my precious time to watch a review of a 10 years old AV receiver.
Thanks, glad I could help. :-)
Yep, that has cheeks
Oh yeah!
Oh gyatt. Dam
A 1986-vintage Sony CDP-35 is not likely to play a CD-R, even if it is working correctly. I was more surprised that it would not play a regular CD. Have you tried cleaning the laser lens yet? You might consider using a tripod for some of your camera work (or using a camera or lens with stabilization) to minimize the shakiness of a handheld camera or phone.
Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't tried cleaning the lens but I may still try that. I agree on the shakiness, which I noticed myself. Although using a tripod doesn't fit into my shooting technique, I may buy a stabilizer, improve my camera technique, and/or try to reduce that via my video editor.
I just picked one of these up in great condition at a Goodwill for $4.99. I like the forward/reverse knob.
GYATT!!!
Gyatt damn
Hi! Is there no way to use the speaker's amplifier module? It's a common issue with these devices that the processor board fails. I would like to use it somehow with Bose quality and a Bose amplifier. Is there absolutely no way to solve this?
I bet it's possible but it might be a bit complicated to do so. I've saved all the pieces from that video in a Bose Baggie (TM), and I might make a video on that subject one day. But I can't promise that because I have so many other fun projects sitting around. :-)
Can you give me information about the sound box liters and the bass reflex port? please bro, the reason is that I have 4 speakers from a sounddock but without a sound box and I want to make a replica 🤔 I would be grateful if you could help me
The box itself has a lot of complex curves, which are probably very important to the final sound. So, I don't think it's really practical for you to replicate that. However, you could just try making a simple box of some kind of about the same general size and see how it comes out. (In general, designing speaker enclosures is a very complex and specialized science that's difficult to do well without being an expert in it.)
Why is some transformer outlet connection not correct?
Same here. I have too much now. 😂 If I had more room I'd buy more.
Had mine since 2011. Still working the same today , good amps!
I have a TA-AV500 looks the same as yours year model is 1988.
I DON'T SEE PART 3
SORRY, BUT I NEVER GOT AROUND TO MAKING IT. MAYBE I WILL SOME DAY, BUT I CAN'T GUARANTEE IT.
I like your kitty 🙂
Thanks, he's a sweetheart.
I got me a pair of 6x9 360watt Kickers (DSC6930) and a Pyle 1400 watt PLA2200 amplifier. then I got a bluetooth receiver and a 40amp 12vdc power supply. Yes, a very, very loud Bluetooth speaker setup, it'll take a stereo mini-jack input also.
I want my money back Klipsch 2.1 computer speakers- mine stopped working
Your lucky I brought one for 20 & it didn't even power on 😂
Do you know if it's possible to enable surround sound through optical. I have a old receiver hooked up to my computer hooked up to a projector and I'm trying to figure it out. Thinking it could be my sound card. I see a external sound card like yours has a optical drive can you play surround sound?
Optical audio links certainly can convey surround sound, so it's mainly a matter of the source outputting that format, and the receiver accepting it. There might be some configuration you have to do on either or both ends, or it might just magically work.
I have one of these that I purchased new, I believe it was 2007 or 2008. It has been a great receiver, however, I have noticed that the audio coming from it (regardless of input source) sounds "fuzzy." My front channel speakers are a pair of Bose 401 (I just replaced their caps), and I have a powered subwoofer as well as rear L and R speakers, so my setup is 5+1. I am concerned that its electrolytic caps (one or more) have gone bad. I have its service manual but it is difficult to read. Would you consider the repair of confirming and replacing the caps to be an "expert required" job? I cannot afford to buy a new receiver, thus my need to repair this one. Your advice is greatly appreciated.
It's probably not an 'expert required' job but just be sure to be safe by leaving it unplugged while you work on it (obviously). On modern electrolytic caps, they often bulge when they've gone bad, so look for that as a first step.
@@SomeDisassemblyRequired I decided against the repair, I just don't trust myself with those types of things anymore. I bought a Yamana RX-V679 from Marketplace on Fri. It is insanely complicated to set up the audio, absolutely ridiculous. It didn't include the mic to be used for auto-calibration. Seriously, I am going to have to hire someone to come hook it up, set it up, and teach me how to use it. I just want a simple to set up and use 5.1 receiver. <sigh>
Do you want to talk with the man who designed the oven?
Sounds interesting. Would that be you?
Hi what cord do you use to make them work?
You can use "speaker wire" or just ordinary zip-cord of the type that's on lamps and small extension cords.
So much better without the background music. Thx for an awesome video.
Thanks for the feedback. The background music was a bit of an experiment. Maybe I'll leave it out in the future.
@@SomeDisassemblyRequired That would be my recommendation.
Get them
I went back the next day and did! Stay tuned...
Have the same model. When in Error mode it wont heat, no matter how long you leave metal on it. Have to clear the error and then press one of the temperature buttons. It also only works with certain metals. It is possible that iron is a metal that would not work. Easiest way to know if it will work is hold a magnet up to your pan/metal, and if its magnetic, then it should work on that cooktop. When you put a non-magnetic metal on it it will show E1. Assuming it is working of course.
Good to know, thanks for passing that along!
How much?
Sorry, I don't remember. But at thrift stores in my area, old A/V receivers typically go for $20-$50.
This is a very good unit used as an audio transport. It does have a fairly good Burr Brown DAC chip but the analog output is not the best. That's no problem as you can just audio out digitally through the coax or optical and input into a modern stand alone DAC. Something like a Schiit Modi or the like at the $100 mark or cheaper 2nd hand. Great pick up!
Maybe I missed the "premise" of you taking this PSU apart, but was it damaged or not working? See I'm trying to see what I can salvage form a totally UNWORKING power supply.
Sorry, but I don't remember if it was working or not. Maybe it was, but I took it apart anyway because ATX supplies are easy to come by, and have a lot of good parts inside. As to your situation, there's no way for me to predict which parts might be bad in your unworking supply. So, I recommend you remove whatever parts you may be interested in, then test them individually.
Part one, evaluation, then part two, cleaning the keys, then part three, removing the action, part four building an action cradle... then nothing. What happened? Did you give up?
No, I didn't give up so much as I've been living with the problems. I play that piano daily and I love it. Its problems are within the scale of what I can fix myself, but I just haven't ever gotten around to it. A sensible thing at this point would be just to pay a professional, but I haven't gotten around to doing that either. :-)
I'd LOVE to find a pair of those.
the moment you see paper cone tweeters you know exactly how its going to sound. like shit
Thanks so much for the detailed information! I am really looking forward now to receive my receiver soon.
A CD made perfectly symmetrical to the centre hole reduces vibrations. I think this is the main mechanism of how it can help the sound.
i had one, was always a weird background noise, like digital aliasing or something.
i remember these, what a terrible sounding pair of junk speakers. the motor for the giant woofer there is about the size of a ointment jar. they are JUNK RUN DONT WALK!
It’s for transferring in image from a piece of paper to a mug. The “sleeve heats up and the ink sublimates into the mug
Got the same one......cooling a simple coca cola takes forever.....
Looksamazing, at 28 $ was a steal, lucky man
You have all of the speakers……..You are missing control unit.
actually they're much newer than that. Pioneer changed to that logo in 1998 so they might be from the early 2000s
