FREEDOM RIDE - Onaqui Release 2022
IT'S ONAQUI FREEDOM RIDE TIME!
The last time these mustangs ran, they were being chased by helicopters. Now, they run for joy, to explore and socialize, and simply because they can! Thanks to the Serengeti Foundation and good people like you, they're back to living the life they were born to on more than 14,000 protected acres! Find out more at englercanyonranch.com or serengetifoundation.com/project/ecr/ (501c3)
The Onaqui transport didn't go as planned, but it also couldn't have gone better. With the early loading time and many hours of driving ahead, our transport team planned to drive straight through and release them upon arrival. It would be dark and wouldn't make for great viewing, ...

    Been around horses all my life ... these are "not" mustangs. Most likely a ramuda being relocated to new pasture or from winter to summer pasture.

      I believe the branding is such that the hair simply grows white. It's not scar tissue. Not sure what the method is.

      What they want is to keep the horse population in balance with the environmental resources which they easily overrun. It's a difficult problem since horses are very adaptable. Investigate the Brumby horses of Australia to see how destructive over population is to where all the horses suffer thirst and starvation and slow death because of their numbers. No one wants to get rid of these wild and feral horses except cattlemen wanting the take those resources for their cattle. Blame them and all the people who buy and consume beef.

    'High Risk' are automatic sale authority mustangs (seniors, three strikers and ugly ducklings) who would be next up on the auction block. Most of the mustangs from this release were in holding for 6-8 years, one had been in 14 years!

    Nice but cruel to place numbers on horses by burning their skin. We are not in the wild west anymore. 😠😠

    • @bradleyr001
      @bradleyr001 6 лет назад

      Those are freeze brands, virtually painless to the horse. So ya, we are not in the wild west anymore.

    • @SaraNightfire1
      @SaraNightfire1 5 лет назад

      The BLM does it to mark the horses as U.S. BLM property, no owner can change it. It's also a freeze brand, it just kills the hair on it to make the mark and doesn't hurt them.

      Rick Bradley freezing isn't painless. and these horses have it really all over them. does it really have to be that much of this brending? or just BLM don't give a crap about horses, as ususlly?

      @virginiamoss7045 3 года назад

      @@SaraNightfire1 The hair continues to grow, just white instead of the regular color.
