Harbor Soaring Society. Oldest AMA chartered model sailplane club in the United States. Flying site located in Fairview Park, Costa Mesa, California. We fly the first and third Saturdays of every month. Hours are 8:00 to 2:00, but most action takes place between 9:30 and 12:30. Starbucks coffee, water and doughnuts are free (while they last). Our "Free Flight" model activity takes place every Sunday (dependent on weather/wind). Free Flight operations take place about 200 feet east of the glider runway (adjacent to the parking lot)! We have club meetings on the second Tuesday of the month (see website for details). HSS also, is heavily involved with various types of "outreach" activities such as teaching aeronautics in local schools, City sponsored events, and other endeavors that benefit our community.

In the spring of 2024, the Harbor Soaring Society visited Pegasus Hobbies. Located in Upland California, Pegasus Hobbies is one of the largest hobby shops located on the west coast. well it's nice to see somebody back at Fairview Park I used to fly my winch glider there for many years 🙋😃👍
When I was about 12, I made an origami hawk that was a glider. My friend and I watched it hover in circles in my yard with just the right wind for over 3mins going up and down before touchdown. It was like it had an engine.

Obviously that little glider could be trimmed for a better glide. She's falling out of the sky.
Needs just the slightest tick of "up" elevator, faster it goes the steeper the dive gets
It doesn’t have to look pretty, you’ve gotta fly what you’ve got. My first RC aircraft was a two channel Impala and it had more dings, repairs, patches and glued field repairs you could read it like a flight log. I loved it and flew it most weekends as a teen. 😊❤
