Govan has always had many schemes with many great brilliant very nice right down to earth people. Going way on back to when there was such beautiful farm land hills. It always had it all and everything that made it special the way it was meant to be. What others forget or did show such ignorance to is that Govan isn't just Govan Cross and that's it. Govan had many other parts and areas that came under good old sunny Scotland UK Govan. Here's some many say isn't Govan. The Winey, IBrox and lets not get started on that one. Cessnock, Linthouse, Elderpark, Craigton, Kinning Park, Bella Houston, Drumoyne, Cardonald, Chooky Hill. Those are all still a very good part off and always will be Govan. There so close and right in or around Govan. Govan isn't as small as many people believe.
I was wondering if that was broomlone rd school where I went from 6 to 10 yrs of age loved it I stayed in govan rd we had to move cause my dad got a job in central Scotland I was heart broken
Uist Street. Elderpark Street. (When I was a Kid) Orkney Place<<< (When I returned To Glasgow for a time as an adult.) My life in Govan. Good and bad. Happy and sad.
Wit a street!! My grandfather was from there, a police officer when the times were about respect. He kept it clean... Thats what its all aboot an at ...
I see a few people who originally came from Govan and have moved away slag govan and the people off but always forget there roots wethers me have lived in Govan all my life and wouldn't move away as there's a hell of alot of good people in Govan better the devil you know as i say.
I worked in the Garden Festival in 1988. The best work colleagues came from Govan, and I made some true friends. I was sad to move away from Glasgow, and I often wonder how those guys got on in life afterwards. Great times, and a long hot summer 😎
I was born in Govan in 1971 and stayed there till '87. The rose tinted glasses some people still seem to wear about the area astonishes me. I remember playing in the back courts when i was a wee boy...dodging peoples garbage and human waste of all kinds...Desolate buildings were our playground. The place was a dump and desperately needed renovated completely. The council renovated round about the early to mid 80's using cheap labour and even cheaper materials that resulted in most of the area having to be re done less than 10 years later. Most of a generation of young men and women fell into the drug scene around about the early 80's and most of those young people are either dead now or in prison. I visited Govan recently and admitedly there are lots of improvements but still more are needed...Before the area falls back to ..."The Good Old Days".

I think some of the locations are: 0:18 taken from Stag street across Govan road to what was corner of Burndyke Street (may have been Hoey street). 1:05 Clynder street looking towards Woodville street. 1:19 Highland Lane looking towards corner of Stag street and Clydebrae street. 1:26 Clynder street looking towards St Saviours Primary School in Summertown road. 2:03 lane behind houses facing Copland quadrant on Copland road. 3:30 Chapel on Merryland Street. 4:28 Southcroft Street. 4.32 Copland road looking west along Govan Road
Excellent photos. I see three places where I grew up, even back to the flat where I was born 64 years ago. The Flat was above the newsagents at the corner of Stag Street and Clydebrae Street. The photo at 1.18 shows it. The photo was taken from the lane that lead down to the ferry. Is there any way I can buy copies of some of these photos?
+Elaine Deehan Hello Elaine, we lived in No 11 Luath street how nice to know this, men and your brother may know each other ..No 11 was the main door onto the street i went back a few years ago and it's bricked up now .this brings back so many lovely memories . best wishes, Gerry.x

fantastic to see photos of Peter Monaghan and major with the cuthbertson dairies float i was peters milk boy for years in mosspark area so so happy memories
It was demolished years ago. I lived there until 1971 and my dad sold to the council. It was cleared as part of the motorway development plan. The old street plan of roads running south to north between Paisley Rd West and Govan Rd is gone. The development that replaced it is all cul de sacs with very few entrance points from the main roads. if you check goole earth where it was is just about 100m east of where Govan Rd meets the squinty bridge, the South Rotunda is a good reference point.
My ancestor was Archibald Campbell who lived at New Stead Place Govan in 1871. By 1881, the family lived at Summerton Road, Murrough Park. Archibald died in 1881 and his address then was Murrough Park Cottage, copland Road, Govan. Three of his sons weer Peter, Dugald, and Alexander and they were timber merchants in Govan. Good to see a glimpse of how Govan used to look.
I was born at 14 Drive Road right across the street from Elder Park. The family all moved to Canada in 1956. Sisters Margaret, June, Lynne and Carol if anyone should remember.
ajohms Gordon chalk and his wife Maureen had 8 kids ,,,it had 1 bedroom ,,I used to visit them from Perth , how they all managed in such a small house !!! They all eventually moved to Perthshire ,, I think in the 70s ,, can anyone remember the chalks ??

Who destroyed your world? The Nazis in war and the Reuben Jews in peace time.
All should be very thankful that all that has been pulled down , how depressing .
I hate this river, pour oil in it, kill the wildlife, this river is racist and I’m the victim.

Understand where you're coming from, but nostalgia is a sucker
