Now all the suspension and brake parts have been blasted and powder coated, it was time to put it all back together! Remember the old rusty, seized engine? The barrels and pistons were the main culprit for the engine not turning, so once they were removed everything else was given a good clean. The crank was sent off to Mike over at the Flat 4 Workshop to check over. Mike sent the crank back with a new set of bearings so we could start the rebuild. Last year we bought a Wizard Roadster for the wheels and front suspension, so we sent them off, along with the chassis and engine tinware, over to Plastic Coatings in Kingswinford for powdercoating. The chassis was coated with a special primer as we then sprayed the floorpans with Raptor.

With 4 inches taken out from Eggbert’s roof it’s now time to make sure everything else is lined up. This is definitely the most time consuming part of the job, so we did most of these jobs during the school holidays. With the main repairs carried out, it was time to think about the roof chop. We dug out an old copy of @volksworld5811 and really liked the look of the roofchop carried out by Keith Seume and Terry’s Beetle Services, on what became the Flashback racecar.
