Shasta Snow Trip has been proving VW buses can off road for 20 years. These people came from around the country to push their Volkswagens to the absolute limit on the backroads of Northern California. When I was a boy my family owned a 1963 23 window VW van. We took it on some truly epic road trips. Strange thing is I don't remember that the wind shield opened. Was that an option?

VW bus and pick ups were the only thing we had in the 50's 60's and the early 70's to get to our mountain property, we didn't get a 4x4 until the 80's, people could not believe what they were capable of doing.
