DRONE sprays Herbicide (CREP Install PT.1)
On our family farm in southern Ohio we are installing CREP buffer strips along our creek line for better diversity, bedding cover and food for wild life. The first stage of this process is to treat with herbicide and kill all those pesky annual weeds that will out compete our native seed that will be no till drilled in the coming months.

Prescribed Fire on Native Plants = Better Wildlife Habitat
Просмотров 369Год назад
When we bought this farm 4 years ago, these fields were in CRP and were never managed properly. Prescribed fire as an awesome tool for getting out unwanted cool season grass and woody stem encroachment. Our goal with this was to promote early successional habitat for turkey, whitetail deer and pollinators. @native_landscapes @OhioWild @TheHuntingPublic

    Ever since 1989 when we stopped fire suppression and went with the new let it burn non intervention fire policy the bird population has drastically plummeted. The prescribed burns destroy the natural food and cover and the humus layer so necessary for insects and nutrition the birds desperately needed just to survive. Especially ground nesting birds. Everything leaves in the smoke and the soil depletes. Only beneficial in an acidic swamp where the fire will remove peat and turn it into smoke to dig it out deeper a bit. The Prairie never burned when it had its migrating herds. It needs migrating bison pronghorn and elk to give the grass nitrogen and remove shrubs. Fire just takes away all of its richness and charcoal is a dessicant. The Sahara is full of charcoal. Thats because it was created by humans making charcoal with fire. They are still there doing that for a living.

    We are having 1 acre of pines and honeysuckle mulched this weekend, leaving cottonwood and elms standing. Our goal is to seed the area to clover and grass after. I am planning to pull most of the mulch off to use for compost and mud management on our farm, but if we applied herbicide as you suggested how long will we need to wait to til and seed?

    • @tatemslandcare

      It depends on if your cutting hardwoods trees or soft invasives like honeysuckle. Typically with in a year or 18 months you can get grass established in areas where honeysuckle has been mulched.

    What happened to your Deere? I love the Takeuchi's!! I wish I had better dealer support for them near me. The closest one is almost 2 hours away and they do not have great communication or follow up, otherwise I would have one for sure!!

    • @tatemslandcare
      @tatemslandcare 2 года назад

      Don't get me wrong, the Deere was a great machine and if majority of my work was dirt work I'd stick with the Deere all day. It kind of boiled down to dealer availability and I originally wanted a TAK before I got the Deere but TAK was on a 8 month waiting list like everybody else. The TAK dealer is closer to me and just is better built for mulching in my opinion now that I've been able to compare the two.

    They make these 2 wedge diagonal blades w/sernaded teeth on top to help cut roots & dig up stumps if u hve room to attack from all four sides a 7min feet when u hve normal soil no rocks blocking your stabs. But if u had the power of wedging & cutting stabs u would real! hve something. By making the sides of cutting blades/long V bucket working opposite from each other. When 1 side in ground lifting the other side strokes/cuts & pressing down, then it goes back & forth some places harder ground more leverage pressing down.

    • @jamesmerkel9442
      @jamesmerkel9442 2 года назад

      at 5min of spend time just attacking from worst case 2 sides then u hve a wonderful fucking design, bc stumps love knocking tracts off, so less near stump or no stumps the wayyy better working in and around brush hard to see when left.

    I would long bar that shit in 1/2 then 1/4 size pieces of the trunk, then drill thru base long 1/2" bit, so u can feed steel cable then grapple top & winch the wire u might need feed it thru hole 3 or 4 times so it doesn't break. After u hve pulled the worst bushes this call for bon fire seams chip short of mulching tank 30k lbs has meet its match.

    If teeth were inside a oval cheerios so spinning prt was two prts not just 1 prt the tooth or it hits every time, but if both parts were spinning then u hve the cutter tooth sure tajking some hit but only a fraction as much & most of all the rpm stays higher bc the cutting prt spin is the only spin that matters not the outer cheerio spinning prt, it just catches up.

      Youd be in the range of anywhere from $4k-$8k all depends on job site cleanliness (rocks) and how dense it is and the diameter of material being but along with species, thats why i dont quote by the hour i quote by the job and how rough on my equipment it will be.
