Bringing a Mechanical Display Back from the Dead
In this video we reverse engineer a mechanical sign from 1985 and lean how to get it working again. The radar unit it was designed to work with no longer exist so we will interface it with an Arduino. Along the way we learn about CMOS digital logic and how the books by Don Lancaster were used to create our modern digital world.

That is truly a terrible soldering iron, there are some excellent, budget, irons these days, that's not one of them. I am not refering to the project but the soldering iron.
Super informative!
I am glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you for your build video! I also used glue on my index finger to place the tiny magnet in position 😆. I'm really grateful for this video, and I would like to add two pieces of information. # Magnetic Zero Position Letter and Offset When setting the offset, you should start by configuring the "Magnetic Zero Position Letter" field before adjusting the "Offset." For example, if your leader was showing "E" when the "Offset" was set to 0, it means the unit's "Magnetic Zero Position Letter" is "E." Setting this field will automatically provide an approximate value for the offset. Click the "Update" button to check if the recommended offset works for your unit. From there, you can fine-tune the offset without changing the "Magnetic Zero Position Letter." Internally, the onboard chip keeps track of the currently displayed letter in memory and resets it to the "Magnetic Zero Position Letter" whenever the sensor detects the magnet. Therefore, it is crucial to set the correct Magnetic Zero Position Letter. # Connecting to Your Home Wi-Fi Router On the web UI, you can enter your Wi-Fi SSID and password, then click "Update" and restart the AfterAI Flaps. From the next boot, it will attempt to connect to your Wi-Fi access point (ensure that IP assignment remains dynamic, as static IP assignment may not work well depending on your router's settings). Once connected to your router, you can find its IP address by checking your router's web UI. Alternatively, you can determine its dynamically assigned IP address by interpreting the Morse code signal, as demonstrated in this video: ruclips.net/video/QqlCrIgUWk4/видео.html. Thank you again for your video! I think people will feel inspired to build their own AfterAI Flaps alongside you!
It is super cool!
Very nice job showcasing the Jitterbug! Thank you for the wonderful, educational video! I am an employee of Learn to Solder Kits and I love to see our product in action! Very nice! 😊
I am glad you enjoyed the video. It makes me happy that you found the video useful.

Nice
Thanks, I am glad you enjoy the video.
Definitely going to watch this closely, as I'd love one of these in my workshop! Hopefully it's a great and reliable product. Also, very nice work putting this together and thank you for the tips to make my job easier Cheers, Darren. Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

Nice kit and nice video, I dont see a link to the kit itself?
Thank you for the compliment and for pointing this out. I have added the link.
Wow, amazing test. I do feel bad that Harley lost her personal items, she won't be able to travel international now, lol. :(
Thank you, I know! Harley was very sad about the loss of her personal items.

I have the Schumacher SJ1427 model of 1500w and I would like to know if I can replace the battery with a LiFePo4 Battery 12.8v 40Ah 12v Lithium
LiFePo4 batteries are charged differently than lead-acid gel-cells. So you need to stick with lead-acid gel-cells.
Very clear and easy to follow. Thanks for sharing!
You are welcome.
Very clear explanation with a lot of details and moreover with a normal speech speed. Easier for me to well understand because English is not my first language.
I am very happy that you were able to understand me.
What size are the security torx screws that hold the housing together?
I replaced all the torx screws with phillips screwes so I am not sure. They might have been T15 or T20.
did this do a good job of converting your tapes to mp3's? and did it pick up the motor noise when you played the mp3's back? thanks.
Yes, it did a good job of converting the tape. The noise I ran into was normal tape hiss and a little bit of motor that was picked up on the original recording. Software can help clean this up.
Sweet. I have two of these that I need to replace the batteries on. Thanks for the video
Glad I could help.
Nice! Thanks. I would like to see how you setup the new matrix.
Thank you for the input.
Thank you.
You are welcome.
Thanks for sharing. Very clear.
You are welcome.
Man, I hate it when I starve because a philosopher steals my chopstick.
Me too.
Garbage 🗑️ 👎
need security screw spec please
I replaced all the torx screws with phillips screwes so I am not sure. They might have been T15 or T20.
Good Info. I want to add an external 12v charger to it. Knowing Batt id diret to leads is good to know. Brighter light and a close up would be helpful
Thank you for the input.
What security screw size and name of style screw head?
I replaced all the torx screws with phillips screwes so I am not sure. They might have been T15 or T20.
Great video, thanks for sharing your knowledge! Do you print the hole jig for sale? I'd love to buy one!
Not for sale, but i could get you the stl file.
you shoed start with pos frst
Thank you.
is it safer to connect the negative lead last?
Very beautiful!
Thank you very much!
Very cool, I live the green dripping, reminds me of the matrix code 😊
Thank you!
Thanks for this video. Learned a lot from it. I noticed you provided a link to the bullet lights with the resistors, but not the square node ones with the voltage regulator. Any chance you could update the description with that link?
Never mind, just noticed the link in the comments.
I am glad you found it. I just dropped a new video. I am working on a lot of lighting projects right now. Let me know you interested leaning more about any of them.
I'm getting a R01 code on my display when I switch to the power inverter, any help? 😊
I am not sure what the R01 code is. The manufacturer may be able to help you with this. I do know the main issue with this devices have is a failed battery, however, from your description it sounds like may be an issue with the inverter.
Can you post a link to the 2nd Pixel right array you talked about with solid state device instead of resistors. Thanks

It is a great video. I liked it. Thanks for your time in recording and sharing. It is very useful.
You are most welcome.
Update. I put the new battery in, tried all the circuits and it works good. Had a opportunity to help someone with a dead battery and in couple minutes, it started the car. VERY happy with the results. And that I now have this in my car for emergencies. Thanks again for the excellent video.
You are most welcome.
Really well done 👍👍
Fantastic!! So glad I found this!! So helpful
Fantastic video!! So informative
Great video...very informative! where did you get the Blue fixture for drilling the holes in the j channel? Does that fit 3/4" or 1" j channel? Any info on that would be greatly appreciated.
The drilling jig was 3D printed.
Well done. I love the visualization you've used with the bricks. Very clever.
