Sidecar wants to be Cafe Racer @johnauvin
Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster 1200 with a Custom Sidecar (2020) is a classic three wheel cruiser. I like the classic retro-look and the two tone black and white "tuxedo" paint job. The Triumph's speed is impressive for a Sidecar Rig.
Recently I started exploring possible changes that might enhance the look. I have always enjoyed Cafe Racers. What exactly is a Cafe Racer? Is there such a thing as a Cafe Racer that has a sidecar attached?
In this video, I discuss possible alterations that might work on this classic motorcycle sidecar. #caferacer #sidecars # triumphbonneville #triumphmotorcycles #triumphspeedmaster #triumph

Road Runner - run run run

During a recent trip to South West Texas, specifically, Big Bend Park, we took a hike along the Rio Grande River. All of a sudden there was a Road Runner stairing right at me. - I approached very slowly to see how close I could get before the Road Runner felt I was too close. During our recent travels to the South West US, we spent time in Terlingua, Texas. Terlingua is a "ghost town" with a section that is very much alive, with a few restaurants, bars and shops. While exploring Terlingua we saw a Road Runner. We found out from locals that the bird is a fixture around town. Mate that outfit is so tastefully done - it's gorgeous. We can get bored with the same bike over time but if you want a cafe racer I'd be inclined to keep your outfit as is, and maybe buy a cheap Thruxton to play with and see how you like it. Best wishes 👍

    That's an absolutely beautiful "combination" that you have created, no need to mess with in IMHO. People used to run with a 100lb of ballast in the sidecar to prevent it lifting. Being British myself, we see cafe racers as being like the Norvin in your later pictures, in which case all you need to do is buy a Triumph Thruxton, and you are good to go !

    • @johnauvin
      @johnauvin 22 дня назад

      Gren - Thanks for the feedback. All good pointers. Reluctant to add the 100 lbs due to the extra weight that the bike has to "push". But, correct, it will help with the "lift". As to the issue, what is a Cafe Racer ... it's my understanding that back in the 50's and 60's Cafe Racers were simply light weight motorcycles ... not a lot of formal modifications.

      Hei Trevor : Thanks for the tip. Very true, a weight in the center of the sidecar is an option. My "rig" has a "wing span" of over 5 feet from the center of the Triumph to the center of the sidecar wheel. The sidecar wheel will lift on a sharp right turn (American made rig) but for me, it's never been a safety issue. Easily lands back on the ground. Happy Tails ✌

      Hi Mark ! Thanks for sharing. Yes, East Berlin was like going back in history. East German and Russian soldiers, propaganda posters, and WW II bomb shrapnel marks on old buildings. ... I hear you loud and clear about your concerns with a sidecar. I like them due to history and, there is nothing like a sidecar. Important to master the turns. On an American built rig, need to understand the right turn and be ready for the sidecar wheel to pop-up if the turn is too fast and sharp. - Good luck. If I got another rig, I think it would be the "reverse trike". The two wheels in front appear to give it great stability? john

    My first outfit was a 70s Ural which was not assembled as a unit when I brought it home on a trailer. After very rudimentary assembly, no fine adjustments to toe in or lean. I crashed it two times on that first ride. Once into a fence and the second time at a roundabout at speed. I knew I wouldnt be able to steer thru it so I just went over the top of the roundabout. Learnt to fly the chair just as you showed. Gave some motorists a fright. The best was when I found you could put it into really tight turns around a tree or a post aginst the sidecar wheel.Aim to just miss the object with the bars then pull into the turn with the rear wheel locked or with full power to slide.So much fun. BTW Its not an inline twin its a parallel twin. Inline denotes fore and aft like a Douglas or an AJS Silver Arrow.I lnow, I know they call multi cylinder engines inline but this is me being pedantic.
