Nepal 2017 Bikepacking Annapurna Mustang
Hey - Great Video!! Well Done. Good to see this is still rideable in October :) I'm riding a similar route and wanting to know which direction is best? I would like to ride the full Pamir in to Kyrg, but understand the Kyrg / Tajik border is closed. So, I'd like to ride an out and back from Dushanbe taking in both the Wakhan Corridor and the Bartang Valley - which direction do you recommend I ride my route in, if it matters at all?
thanks for the comments. Our plan was to do anti-clockwise but ended up doing it clockwise. We had a support vehicle - and there was some snowfall predicted. Anti-clockwise meant a steep decline by the support vehicle over potentially icy/snowy roads. So we went clockwise. Have a look at the main wind direction as there is a plateau (both ways). It worked out well for us. Doing it late/october means very cold nights - and therefore limited camping opportunities. If it is so cold, home-stays are the better option - but that was not always possible - resulting in long days/distances.
@@casbrentjens Thanks for the great reply, much appreciated. I'll be doing my best to get there as early as i can after riding the Tian Shan Traverse in Kyrg. I expect I can start from Danshube early September, I'm hoping to avoid the cold weather and the onset of winter in these parts. I have good camping kit and can deal with zero - -5 Deg C, but would not want that every night. Looks like incredible riding and I can't wait! - I know you had a support vehicle, but did you find food options and resupply regular or is it days between good resupply options? I'm still doing my due diligence and will research all of this, but just asking the question. Thanks again for your help!
Great tour! Looking into doing it this summer - but I have one question: where is all your equipment (tent, cooking, water supplies etc.) ? in the video I see only just a bike without any luggage or equipment.. ?
support vehicle :)
Looks like a bike touring paradise! When’s the best time to ride there?
It is quite tricky due to landslides.... best ot ask the local experts. I can recommend: bartang-sarez-tour.com/contact/
We did it in October... a bit cold .. better do it a few weeks/months earlier..
@@casbrentjens thx sir

Thank you for capturing so much of the route and so well. I lost my footage back in 2019. Fantastic experience.

Awesome vlog, loved it. I am planning to venture next year early October. Thank you for sharing your epic cycle adventure.
Loved the way you've filmed your whole trip and your bikepacking adventure in a single video ❤ I'm planning to go solo to Annapurna circuit next October so just needed more information like accomodation budget and other stuff.. How to get connected with you? Any social networking site you are on?
Also if someone interested to visit next yr please refer I'm searching for a travel partner :)

Amazing bike trip in Annapurna sercit beautiful video n brave bike rider........lots of love from Nepal
please remove music. painful for ears.
Mahahind Charan yeah will fix it - can be better yes!
it's like watching Batman Trilogy all over again, with Batman in his motorcycle chasing after criminals in the desert day and knight
Epic!! What a route! I want to do it.
Классное Путешествие! Один вопрос: Откуда вы скачали мой плейлист музыки?! О_о
Niceley done! i'm trying to get a perception of how hard it is to climp mt kilimanjaro with a MTB, how much training did you do? how hard was it? :)
up to 4800m it was rideable and doable. After that it is too steep to ride. We took the service road.. some steep sections, but a very nice ride. The descent is amazing !
Super mistři bikeri to je super výkon na Nobelovou cenu za bike super bravo 👍👍👍🏔🏔🏔🚵♂️❤️❤️❤️
Amazing pictures! What time of year did you travel? How long did it take to traverse?
First week in August - I believe we were extremely lucky with the weather - just some rain the last day when we were back in civilisation. We planned/prepared a worst case scenario of 9 days - but we did it in 6-7 days.
I was in Mustang in October 2017. Had gone there with family for a pilgrim to Mukthinath
This is a great video. The soundtrack makes me think there's an impending battle scene about to take place. Haha
Looks great. I'm planning a trip up to cycle through the AC over in April. Am wondering if i've got enough time to make it an additional trip up to Lo Manthang and back. It seems that you guys manage to head to Lo Manthang from Kagbeni in 3 days, just wondering if you guys were really pushing it or theres plenty of time to spare? And it doesnt seem like there are any stops that serve food or water. Am wondering how did you guys deal with that? Appreciate some information as it is a solo trip and i dont really want to be stranded there, knowing that the nearest airport is at Jomsom!
you would probably need 4 days up and down to Lo Manthang. There are a few teahouses between Kagbeni and Lo Mantang. 3 days will be challenging.
@@casbrentjens I meant 3 days from Kagbeni to Lo Manthang, so that would make a 6 day round trip. I think there might be a segment missing on the video. I assumed you guys took 5 days? for a round trip from Kagbeni - Lo Manthang - Kagbeni?
Mark Wong 4 or 5 days should be possible ; depends how hard you want to make it, and if you want to do some sightseeing/riding around at lo mantang
Great captures of landscape and sense of place, lived experience.
sorry, but its too much B-Roll i dont even know the story...
Way over dramatic. It was like watching Ben Hur.
LOL. But yes...
We love it !
Hi! Great trip! How did your packing setup on the handlebar looked like? Two types of bags there? I wonder if I´m able to put a handlebar bag under a Ortlieb "Ultimate six"? I have an 29inch Cube. Cheers!
Commentary would have been good. Who carried your gear? The music is way over the top. Sorry couldn't watch too much of it.
didn't do it for me, sorry...
Really keen to watch this but I found the excessive video effects and lunging changes of panning speed terrible...making it totally unwatchable...
Beautiful scenery.
Molto bello complimenti 👍 se ti va visita il mio canale
Great film Cas and great American Eagle bikes. Well done, Congrats!
Really fantastic trip, Please accept my congrats😀 l climbed Kilimanjaro in 2010. But on the bikes...ho ho...Respect:) Cheers from Poland Andrzej
very nice video & music.thank you for sharing.
bagus dan semoga saya juga bisa ikutan bersepeda
Awesome Video as always ! What a crazy adventure :O Can't wait for the next one
Im going in a weeks time for 1 month MTB trip, cant wait after watching this vid, thanks
Which bike did you take?
Schrobi Pokhara : 11ants , a dutch bike builder: titanium frame, 29” wheels + 3” tires (29+), gates belt, rohloff hub.
@@casbrentjens Thank you for your reply. Actually, I am also planning for the same trip and thinking to take Cube Attention SL 29er because of its price. Another option is Grand Canyon AL 3.0 What do you suggest for me? I am a beginner in MTB World.
Schrobi Pokhara Any bike with strong tires and serious brakes will do the job. Both the Cube as the Canyon look fine in case they are in good condition. Invest in some strong tires as they will need to take a few hits.
Wow Wow, this is great journey for strong and brave men from the other side of this planet. I wanna ride over there in the summer of next year
Jun Kim - All the best there! It is a fantastic ride !
well done. congtrats on your safe return!
Hi Cas: How did the Rohloff hubs perform? Did you have to to the lowest gear to climb the steep?
i changed the front ring 2 teeth smaller (and different belt), and due to altitude and steep climbs often the smallest gears were needed... and after that walk :)
Have you had the opportunity to ride a pinion p1.18? I am torn between the two. Almost bought the pinion but I know Rohloff is tried and tested. What was the size of your front ring? Thanks.
I think i went from 42 to 39 as chainring on the front. Never tried Pinion. I think it is great to have the weight in the center instead of a heavy realwheel. But the bike starts to look like an e-bike. Dont know anything anout Pinion reliability.
Hi Alan, we did it in October. You can search for best times to hike Annapurna Circuit. Between June and September is Monsoon; December /Jan/ Feb can be a bit colder I guess (i like being in Nepal around Xmas though - crisp air, blue skies, not too many trekkers on the trail; just a bigger sleeping bag)
What time of year did you do this ride? What would be the best times of the year to do a similar ride?
Great trip!! Thanks for sharing! I'd love to get out into that area too. I think you've got some great footage and would get a lot more views if you would describe the trip in the beginning and do some commentary (like a documentary). Also some footage of the restaurants, hotels, transportation, people, setting up camps, fixing flat tires etc along the way would make it a LOT more interesting. I only watched about 10 minutes of it. Just some constructive criticism if you are interested in that type of thing. Sending Love, Pat Vulk
Thanks Pat ! :) Happy to share any details with anybody who has questions.. This movie is more for ourselves to share wit friends and family.
