    So. exactly what part did Satan play in this Bible "story"? Clueless, here. It does spell out the terribleness of patriarchy in religions. Once she "bore him a son" she felt her life useless. Just a terrible message, really. Alicia Jo's voice is as beautiful as can be, however.

      Hello Govinda, this song is hard to understand without knowing the context - which is that it's based on a midrash (a traditional Jewish re-interpretation of the Bible story) in which Satan appears to Sarah while Abraham and Isaac are on the mountain, and shows her what's happening, but does not show the end of the story - so she assumes that Abraham went through with the sacrifice. The song retells that very old interpretation in bluegrass form. Hope this helps.
