Marcus Harvey influenced the Rasta movement he is rested in Kingston Roman Catholics gardens Harvey knew Rasta from his time in Jamaica in 1930 but his view on Rasta borded a scorn Harvey regarded Rasta belief in the divinity of haile selassie as blasphemy.....that's all I've learned from reading about garvey I wasn't alive in the 30s so I'm only reading history like yourself.Geraldo collaborated with the kkk true or not I don't know but again that's what I'm reading and he was a Catholic he also has Irish heritage

What else happens when you take a people from their country and forbid them from cultural practice, their language, their religion, and they are disconnected from their roots??? They take on the culture that dominated them.... However, rasta is meant to reAfricanize the black men and women who were descended from slaves and disconnected from their African roots (Carribean, American, all African people). It's not a movement for white people.

Ok, in this comment I only see propaganda from people who consider themselves rasta but who are not. 1) Marcus Garvey has always talked about equality, just read his speeches and read his books. In addition he himself stated that many of his greatest friends were white, and many also helped him with the U.N.I.A. 2) Even without Marcus the movement would have started regardless, because at the same time in the world more and more people who knew the bible were recognizing the divinity of his majesty, we find the first forms of Rastafari in the USA (where Marcus was), in Costa Rica and other areas of the American continent, in Ethiopia and other areas of the African continent, and also in some areas of England, France, Germany and a little something even in Italy (areas where people are fair-skinned) Marcus is considered a prophet only because he is credited with the prophecy made in America (which besides everything from the other first forms of rasta in the world was not even known, it was thanks to reggae music that in the world people began to see that the followers of Selassie were scattered almost everywhere , and so the unitary doctrine that is now created), in Jamaica Rastafarianism came thanks to various preachers who did not even know each other, there was Howell who learned rast afari by some followers of Garvey in the U.S. (as he also said), and others like Hibber who instead had not learned from Garvey's followers but had learned from others (Hibbert learned rastafari in Costa Rica). 3) Haile Selassie has always made speeches about equality, and said that we must all become members of one race, and Marcus Garvey also spoke of equality. 4) Rastafari is not a movement based on the return of blacks to Africa etc ... the concept of repatriation is divided into two types, spiritual repatriation (that is, since you join rastafari, you go back to look at the origins of all men (that is Ethiopia) and the physical one, the physical one for the Afrodiscendeti was proposed to his majesty by some Jamaican Rasta when he went to visit Jamaica in 1966, and he said that it was not against physical repatriation, and that for him it could be done, but in general rastafari is based on the return of christ following the biblical prophecies that come true on Selassie! 5) What you are saying were propaganda created by the system to defame and hate Jamaican Rasta all over the world, making them pass for racists etc ... INSTEAD NO! The elderly Jamaican rastafari have always made speeches of equality, and in addition there were several white-skin rasta people even then in Jamaica. Go study rastafari rather than come here to create racist propaganda and your own ideologies. STOP BABYLON IN RASTAFARI MOVIMENT. I will mention some of the verses taken from some of his majesty's speeches on equality: We must become members of a new race, overcoming petty prejudice, owing our ultimate allegiance not to nations, but to our fellow men within the human community." - Haile Selassie. "Until ignorance has been eradicated, understanding and sympathy cannot truly exist among men. Without tolerance and comprehension, oppression will continue to exist, peace will not be assured. To love and to seek learning is thus to love and seek peace". -Haile Selassie. "Until the philosophy which holds one race supperior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned; until there are no longer first class and second class citizens of any nation; until the color of a mans skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes; until the basic human rights are equally guarenteed to all without regard to race." -Haile Selassie. "Until bigotry and prejudice and malicious and inhuman self interest have been replaced by understanding and tollerance and goodwill; until all Africans stand and speak as free human beings, equal in the eyes of all men as they are in heaven". -Haile Selassie "Memories of past injustice should not divert us from the more pressing buisness at hand. We must live in peace with our former colonizers, shunning recrimination and bitterness and forswearing the luxury of vengeance and retaliation, lest the acid of hatred erode our souls and poison our hearts". -Haile Selassie.
