1989 Mustang GT Pushrod Swap after Cam Install
When you removed the pistons, we're they number for the specific cylinder like they are on a 302? Mine weren't and I didn't notice until they were all out.
Look closely and there should be some alphabetical letters stamped in. I almost missed them on my pistons.
I wonder how these compared to the bigger Mercury Grand Marquis cars at the time that this was built.
Thanks! I’m doing this today. It looks like someone took mine off in the past and put it back poorly. Everything on the car is super straight and lined up nice besides the drivers side fender
Seems to be a common problem with these trucks. What parts truck did you get the latch from?
Think it was a 94 or 95
Awesome! I've an 83 GT and have a burnt out rear turn signal. I was going crazy wondering how it's done. Cheers!
Naice 😎
That truck sounds good
@@mattleonard5268 Thanks
Ford never made a manual lightning for whoever is wondering
@@mattleonard5268 i made it. Any manual that came with sbf bolts right up the the 351w. All the other supporting parts are easy to find
@@CarsFoodWeed cool. M5od?
@@mattleonard5268 yeah. if it craps out hopefully we can get a tko or tkx
That idle don't sound right but thats a badass truck
5 speed swap on automatic computer
Thank you.
I feel like this video should be in the Foxbody DIY hall of fame
Thanks they're still on the car to this day
That bolt you get to by opening the door? A bolt behind it, can be reached from underneath as well. It's a smaller bolt that holds on the same bracket. My fender was shoved back so the door wouldn't open. Just an FYI for anyone else.
Yeah, the fender bracket bolts can be annoying to get to
It’s so nice seeing the mustang in the tux live on and be enjoyed. I have 2 right now but plan on another in the future. They’re such great cars.
welp. I removed some of this stuff, and then figured I would search up how to get the rest, and where they were. I now know how, and I don't feel like going back out there now. 😅i don't have the free time to commit this afternoon...like dang man. Thats a lot of fasteners!
I need one bad

Bri in having a terrible time trying to get my rebuild started. That ground stud on the passenger side...I swore I unhooked a large ground wire from there, after getting my truck back there nothing grounded there and the stuff wasn't put back in. I ended up grounding the negative to the block but I had a #6 orange welding wire (probably a DLO) there at one point and now nothing. What was there when you undid everything?
Yah there is a ground stud on the passenger side for the battery cable. Driver side will be the oil pressure sending
There's a ground strap that goes from the firewall to the stud on the rear corner of the lower intake
Oops, I just commented on another short of yours with this idling, I asked if it's a 302/5.0! It's really a 200/3.3 I see. Some ways, even better!
Yeah, the six is cool. The downside is there's not a lot of parts available
@@CarsFoodWeed Yeah. Unfortunately, the Australian Crossflow heads we had on later 200ci & 250ci sixes don't fit the reverse flow blocks.
Just lovely, those wheels are gorgeous too. Let me guess: 302/5.0?
Love the manual swapped SVT lighting. Would love to own one myself. Guess Ill stick with my regular 5 speed swapped 351 F150
The regular ones are also great trucks
Great video thanks for all the help on the removal. I feel real bad man I live in Iowa, but my car is originally from Arizona so there’s no rust. It’s beautiful underneath all the plastic not even the rivet plastic clips have rusted yet they’re still factory plated in their brass color.
thank you for posting this video, you did a great crank install people can understand
thanks for watching
I thought it was just me on the LMR Pushpins LOL
Need to sell me this car
It's not for sale
Did you ever flush out your system 😂
It's a self flushing system
No Sir I havnt been drinking .....😂
Head gasket?
it was actually the upper radiator hose.

It's an inline 6 or 4?
Ford Six 200ci
@@CarsFoodWeed what kinda car is that? It looked like a Buick from the front
@@Wannagobackto1980 1983 Mercury Marquis also known as a 1983 Ford LTD
@CarsFoodWeed my parents had a 84 Mercury Marquis. It had a 302 in it. Was a nice plush car.
@@Wannagobackto1980 this one might be getting a 351w in the future
Excellent video. Every single other video I could find was about replacing the whole assembly rather than just the bulb. "Typical Ford fashion" 😂. I'd give you two thumbs up if I could.
Ya , 1980s hose&vacuum layouts were miniature NYC water/Sewage plumbing diagrams. Parts would be rare in 2024.
🥝✔️
Could also be a bad pulse air valve or very loose spark plug. But exhaust/EGR leak is best choice for sure.
it was a loose plug, there was a anti fouler stuck in the head that came out upon inspection
@@CarsFoodWeed I accept having the correct answer, thank you.
Exhaust gasket leak
Blown egr somewhere. Thats my guess
It boggles my mind how our 90 GT isn’t really much different than our 70 mach 1
Nice
L😂
Had an old Chevy van that would make people drop. Threw a flame about a foot long out exhaust. Neutral then rev it and let off totally then bam 😂
🥝✔️
Head gasket??
it goes away once its warmed up
You. Are. Killing. Me. 😂 Thx for posting, your video making me ultra nostalgic. I just now posted up old VHS of my 1989 (bought new!)... and now I am browsing RUclips wishing so BAD that I still had it. Keep having fun man!
Just took mine out tonight 👍🏻. I don’t normally daily drive mine but I’ve had stretches where I’ve had to 1-2 weeks at a time. Mostly when some of the other vehicles in the fleet are down. I can always really on my Fox, which is also the oldest vehicle in the fleet. Top down and banging gears always puts a smile on my face.
Mine has the same noise, did you ever get to the bottom of what failed?
Yeah it spun a rod bearing
@@CarsFoodWeed Thanks for the reply! Looks like I'm going to be doing a rebuild too lol.
