Building IKEA KRYDDA/VÄXER propagators
First of all - A big thank you to who sent this to us (you know who you are) and good luck with your travels!
In this video, I'm putting together the IKEA KRYDDA/VÄXER hydroponic system / propagators which has been kindly donated to us. A showcase of this video from IKEA can be found here: ruclips.net/video/Sv9wD2HNSnA/видео.html
I believe this range has now been discontinued, but if you were to find it on their website, it would be under this category: www.ikea.com/gb/en/cat/growing-accessories-24887/

Building a compost bin
Просмотров 26910 месяцев назад
Heading into March was like flipping a switch when comes to the weather, so I took the opportunity to dig out the compost bins and rebuild them. After 6 years of service, the bottoms of the old compost bins have rotted out and the sides have also given way. With some pallets that came my way, plus ones I had left over, I was able to make a brand new compost bin, and I also managed to add a dece...
Planning the allotment for 2024
Просмотров 28310 месяцев назад
February was a bit of a washout on the whole, and compared to January, not a lot has happened. I took the time to sit down and plan what's going on and my travels led me to use www.growveg.co.uk/ to help get things in order - and I was most impressed! This is not a sponsored post. A big thanks to www.growveg.co.uk/ for making the software and their team for helping me along the way. You can als...

You have such pretty hands!
This doesn't work at all.
I like your idea and am just starting to make some. If you have a nice rolling pin, it does a great job of making sharp creases quickly! (April 2023)
Don’t bother folding and making a bottom, just use them round and place them together in a rectangular pan
I've filled cardboard egg cartons with soil seed water. Place on plastic or aluminum tray to germinate
Many toilet paper rolls tested had PFAS in them. Would not use them. 😮
Indoor greenhouses? More explanation please.
They're propagators, they'll hopefully encourage seed germination and subsequent growth by maintaining a germination friendly environment :)
@carrottopsallotment like an indoor green house. You start the seeds with the lights and all then transfer them outside.
Great idea
what a waste!! i will continue throwing them in the trash thank you!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What is an allotment? Is that a place to garden away from your home if you don't have a private plot? Or, is an allotment your own garden and the seeds/plants you plan to grow?
An allotment is a plot of land you can rent from a local authority (a council) to grow your own fruit and produce. In the UK allotments are protected by The Allotment Act 1950 which sets out rules and regulations of what you can and can't do. :)
Thank you for explaining. Best wishes.@@carrottopsallotment
And what do you do to stop mould growth?
I've not yet figured that out. Mould really likes moist conditions, so I would suspect regulating the moisture closely should help. 🤞
My grandparents just bury the cardboard in their garden and use them as a seed starter. My grandparents are genius the greatest people in the world , my parents and grandparents are doctors by profession. Medical student Malaysia God bless 👍🙏
@rharesh4451 I'd like to know more about how your grandparents use the buried cardboard for seed starting. Are you saying they take sheets of cardboard, bury them with soil, and then plant in an open bed of that soil? Or are you saying they bury the cardboard, then remove the cardboard, then shape it into planters to start their seeds in?
@@jeffmeyers3837 the first one they bury the sheet of the cardboard in the soil and plant the seeds.👌
Used them on beetroot and had good results no disturbing the roots just bring the seed away and plant when ready 🇬🇧
It's worked ❤🎉 Thank you ❤😊
I'm wanting to use these on a capillary mat. Do you think that would still work? Great video
I should think so, I'd expect the bottoms to rot a little more quickly perhaps.
@@carrottopsallotment I guess I'm going to find out! Lol
This is such a good video full of excellent tips. Thank you for sharing.
And here in Western Australia it has just been hot and dry looking forward for some rain
New subscriber here looking forwards to catching up on your videos . The weather has been awful your right so wet . I love making a plan then changing it
Welcome!! And thank you!
Hopefully it clears up soon, we have had rain and snow here in SW Canada 😢. I don’t do much planning 😅😅 well I start and then it all falls by the way side. My biggest plan is I put it all in my phone calendar so I can go back over the years. Great update Adam happy growing, Ali 🌦️🇨🇦
Nice simple money saving idea.
🎉 P r o m o s m
This is very helpful thank you sir .
🔫🏐🏐😂
Best recycled starter solution 👏🏼
Nice love! ❤
Technique saves money if you only eat taco bell.
Great info 👌 A new Subscriber here 👍
Nice! I often use kcup pods.
It's all well and good trying to save money but you have no idea of the process used in making the roll or how well the very harsh chemicals that are used were washed out of the paper. Any residual traces of the bleach, formaldehyde, ammonia to name a few will most likely harm your seedlings.
They work for me but get slightly moldy the only issue is them falling apart at the seam when wet they also dry out fast and need lots of watering to stay moist 😒😕 I actually found that if u cut them in half and make similar flaps like yours but only half as long and u fold them like u do closing up a box once u do this fill them with seed starting mix and plant the desired seeds Here’s the cool part they’ll fit the 12 cell 36mm peat pellet jiffy windowsill green houses PERFECTLY !!! Unlike the dang pest pellets that are coated in plastic mesh that doesn’t break down these toilet paper tubes will break down when planted
Mine always go mouldy - any tips for avoiding that?
👏🧤☘️
Why bother going through all that effort when you can just use them as they all, no need to cut or fold them.
good shout with the egg box lid raiser.
Amazing!! Wish I would have seen this years ago. Thank you so much. Starting to save mine now.
When you said clean up the patio area, I thought, "Yeah, rake all the leaves off, level the ground, put down some cement squares...." I had no idea they were already there! Good job finding them. Plus all those leaves. I don't think stomping them in was the right call, as air is good, but your plot, your call. :) Besides, not too many other places to put them at the moment. Jon in rural BC, Canada
brilliant!!!
I never would have thought of this. Thank you for sharing.
Great idea, thanks for sharing
Remember that toilet roll video. You really helped me! Thanks.
Great video, have saved loads of toilet rolls and am looking on how to do these best, and this video is the best I've seen yet, so will use your method!
So glad I came across this video. I'm gonna start planting my own veggies soon, and I think this a great method to start growing my little seedlings. Ty so much!
Thanks for the video and the ideas! Do you know how long it takes for the rolls to biodegrade?
Do you not need to put holes in the bottom of the loo roll holders? And do you water your cuttings daily or not at all? Thank you
I didn't put holes in the bottom, and I water them when they're looking like they're getting a bit dry. Eventually they'll disintegrate, but that's ok if moving them to a pot! Thank you for commenting :)
BRILLIANT - kicking myself as I type for throwing away toilet roll holders.
Wow - thank you SO much for this. Was going to go shopping today to see if I could get a propagator and came across your video by accident. I was just about to bin a mushroom tub and a fruit punnet - so you've saved me some money - THANK YOU. Have subscribed.
Do they dissolve if we transfer in the dirt ?
They most certainly do!
Your method is involving too much manual labor for just starting seeds. You don't have to be so precise in closing the tube bottom. Your not building a watch, or a vehicle engine where each flap has to be within so many millimeters to make it work properly. Just eye ball it. And the tubes don't have to be square. Keep it simple. Don't make a major operation out of a toilet paper tube. Growing seeds should be fun, not like reinventing the wheel or pretending to be Henry Ford and creating the model T. People don't have the time to really, really, really fold tight the tubes to get a really, really, really good crease. Watch other videos using toilet paper tubes to start seeds, and see how easy and simple it is, and less time consuming. You're way is wasting time, and the toilet paper tube police won't be busting down your door and arrest you for making the bottom flaps not square. Remember. The greatest ideas come from making it simple - stupid.
