That is a stack wound spool. It should be on a vertical spool pin.

According to the manual the bobbin should be inserted in the bobbin case the other way around.

when you "Go Around" Are you threeading in front of the little plate that hangs down or BEHIND it?

You forgot to tell people to pull the knob out on the right side so the machine does not go up and down while the bobbin is winding.
