Urban villages are the last refuge for ordinary people in big cities, with 1,746 such villages in Shenzhen alone, housing 13.43 million people, accounting for 76.48% of the city's permanent population.
Since Shenzhen has the highest housing prices in mainland China, it's no surprise that 8 out of 10 people live in urban villages.
Using my S23 Ultra, I will take you to explore these urban villages and immerse you in the vibrant nightlife of their residents.

Location: Hezhou New Urban Village, Baoan District, Shenzhen
Turn right at the middle of Hezhou Road and enter Hezhou New Urban Village. The only feeling when walking in the village is desolation. There are at least 60 buildings in 9 alleys, but the number of tenants is not large. Unlike other urban villages where there are all kinds of food stalls downstairs, this place is suitable for those who prefer a quiet living environment.

Is this just a particularly slow night or is this typical for the usually busy times/days now? Looks like it had recently been raining so maybe that kept people home.
Shenzhen, with a population of almost 18 million, doesn't have what you might call a "slow night." It was a normal weekday evening, and although it was raining, you could walk around without an umbrella.

@@NightlifeChina I have explored a lot Shenzhen. You used to see more when the subway stopped at Window of the World and had to take the bus the area was the Wild East back then. I would climb Yang Tai Shan twice then walk back to Bantian along the Shenzhen old border fence road past Shenzhen North Station being built. Hope to return one day.
