Speak Easy Episode 2 Analysis! RECALL: BODYONTHEFLOOR is the first episode of this series, but watching it provides some context :O This is an episode of Z-turn's past before the current events in BODYONTHEFLOOR. Spoilers for the whole episode! (forgive me for disorganization) - At the first scene, we see "KMB" (you see her at a poster in episode 1), Z-Turn, L1TRESSS and GumAngel, in front of them is a grave of who we see at the following scenes; as the ticking clock portrays the sequence of events backwards! (reference. episode 1) - The song begins, and revealed to us is the face of the deceased friend. With the perspective of the camera, it shows that he is adjusting the camera to three other people. They are a group of friends in high school called "Sunrise Parabellum" (explained later) - Z-Turn holding the phone puts into perspective that this is a memory, zooming into his younger self (a nice touch during this is there's a time indication to completing top surgery 4 years ago. timeline wise, i speculate they knew each other there's 8 years ago from present) - Lurke is technically this series' twitter/x. its so satisfying to see the lyrics to the song be accurate to his expression of a strong desire to make it big in the music industry. the lurke posts being four years ago signifies he's been serious about this for four years. - the posters at this scene have names; Idris, Franczes, Zach (may be Z-turn) and Devland; this is the first indication that the band is known as Sunrise Parabellum, and they formed in high school. - in the next scene at 0:46, they are performing; the drum kit furthermore indicates their band name being called this. they perform gigs and have a decent following. - *returning from several rewatches, the names are the ff.* > Idris - lead singer, passed College of Rovery's Psychology program > Franczes - bassist, the one who convinces to not tell Z-turn about Idris' admission > Devland - the drummer, the deceased, you see him at the phone wallpaper at 0:23 very important cast to this story. - these people are important to Z, as 1:04 signifies reminiscing... watch as it switches to GumAngel and Clef while Idris remains in the middle. With only the shadow of Devland, its he who haunts Z. - 1:20 I will say that this part is a flashback scene, because the next scene at 1:22, there are some interpretations; Z confides in Gum for some assistance, or they get to know each other furthermore. this is part of the timeline, Devland is still alive, but the SP has disbanded for quite a while. - in which 1:32 signifies they all celebrate Zach's 22nd birthday. however, behind the scenes, Devland was already drunk/tipsy and L1tresss didn't do anything about it. (when you think about it, it's a horrible canon event to have your 22nd be the best day of ur life only to realize ur homie dies otw home) - 1:44's TRANSITION IS SO OOOOOOOOOH. that time stop and the booze glass drop. anyway back to normal. this signifies a period of realization. This part of the time stamp is shortly after his death. - 1:54 is the bulletin board of the Speak Easy, assuming all the other posters are cameo and irrelevant... we focus on the final poster "Jargon: Devland-Sunday" (this is the signifier that was his name). The most heartbreaking part about this is the fact that he would've been alive to perform. - 2:12, fun fact... Millia is a poster in Episode 1 BODYONTHEFLOOR. She is also the body on the floor... hmmmmmmmmmm..... - Final words... I think the conclusion to this episode is Z now sees Clef (the one with the clef tattoo duh) as the one who replaces Devland O_O Perhaps that's why he has an infatuation to him? Look at 2:37 as it goes from the band, to being alone. Clef is the only one at the audience, and the way he supports him is reminiscent of Devland... SPECULATIONS: - Z-turn and Devland have a very strong bond - Clef is dating KMB... - KMB being in the graveyard scene at 0:00 means that she is related to Devland :O - L1tresss is close with Devland... I hope we find out why! Gum makes sense because of his closeness with Z! - WHY IS THIS UNDERRATED HFDJKHRKEUFHRAHHHHHH - (headcanon) would be nice if Dev and Z-turn became a duo instead bruhh In summary, Zach (Z-turn) is such a tragic character here... He is constantly feeling guilt and he wants to make it big, but his band wants to walk a different path. This makes him more alone than ever...
