    Ok, let me tell you something, as a biologist. Amino acid (20 +1 make up the proteins, and this is each and every protein) are the main building blocks of each and every living organism. They are present everywhere!!! Either you have not studied biochem or just need a refresher. Well, in this case I'll give you one. Name me one veggie that does not have proteins. Just name me one. You won't because proteins are essential components of each and every living creature and they are everywhere, where a life is! The whole life is a combination of proteins, lipids, nucleic acids and your fucking beloved carbs. You just can't do without proteins. Now as to the animal part - all amino acids are the same!!!! animal, plant, bacteria, humans - all same thing!!! no biochemical difference, same structure of each and every amino acid!!!! The genetic code is universal!!! Stop fooling yourself with lies like this one. Please, be more specific when investigating!!!! Thank you in advance.

      hey m8 as u must know, all protein is composed of the the combination of the same aminoacids. same aminoacids. different protein. same aminoacids. thousands of different combinations that make up proteins so different that their function in the human body changes drastically, not to mention that different food have different protein. if u have studied biochemistry u must know that, right? the problem is not in aminoacids. somehow i think you havent watched the whole vid. of course protein is essential, it just happens that different protein has different effects in our body, what a thing. imagine if all protein was the same. we either would be all enzymes, or all hormones, or we wouldnt even exist because we would be all made up entirely of collagen and we'd be as good as a fucking tree. if you have really studied a career of that nature, you should have learned to think differently. rn u come off to me as a highschooler whos just learned that in chem class lol

      +Izuru Kamukura Agree, plant and animal proteins are different. But, us humans are carnivors as well, right? For hundreds of thousands of year our digestive system has evolutionized in this way. Why should all the sudden now it's going into the wrong direction? We should look at things like meat processing, the diet of the animal, etc. Thats why "animal bad, plant good'' is a total myth. Too many questions about his studies and only few answers. P.S.: writing with small ''u'' is disrespect.

    • @asserm.8047
      @asserm.8047 8 лет назад

      +Ross Hor yeah i dont think as humans as "herbivorous" either, if an animal can, and does eat meat (as well as plant foods) it should b considered omnivorous (just like pandas, even tho they cant digest plants too well). but you cant base your defense, just in case youre defending animal products, on "we've been doing this since the beginning of time and survived as a species" because the health problems animal products consumption may cause come usually after reproductive age. if you die of a heart attack but you already had two kids, for example, the species is going to continue existing. whether we can or not digest & even metabolize something means that we can "eat" it, but that doesnt mean it is necessarily good and viceversa; for example, the fiber from plant foods is "good" for us, but we can not digest it. the thing with studies is that (if they are well executed & the funding sources are clear of interests) they /prove/ things. if multiple well executed and revised studies show that animal protein is carcinogenic, one should start worrying about the food they put in their belly. not to mention the amount of saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol animal products have, but the health handicaps that derive from these are more obvious. the thing is, there is probably an amount of animal products one can consume without risking their health too much (for example, max 10% of kcals daily in case of animal protein as this video shows). i think its necessary to determine exactly the risks consuming an amount of animal products creates, and informing the general public, who doesnt even truly know how badly their diet is affecting their health. by the way, i didnt mean to offent you at all. i use "u" on the internet bc its faster, no bad intentions at all, sorry.

    I have just been awarded the eCornell University Certificate for Whole Plant Nutrition. Before I started the course I was confused about the multiple claims made by many groups as to what is our best diet, the views changed every few years, many claims were rarely supported by any scientific research, most were certainly aimed at making a profit or protecting vested commercial interests. I am now totally convinced by the gathering body of hard scientific research that we all need to make big changes in our attitude to food, our love of the modern diet and begin to shift our diets towards a whole plant based diet. You don't need to do this training to be convinced, I hope this lecture might be enough to set you on a new road to better health.

      His book is a sham. Look up Denise Minger and her critique of the book. You will find how Campbell seems to have forgotten previous papers he has published that have actually been peer reviewed that claim the opposite of some of his own claims in the book. What a farce!

    • @superbreastman
      @superbreastman 9 лет назад

      Glenn Carr It is quite clear to all that about the only community interested in the kind of thing Minger is attempting to demonstrate would be the pro-beef Weston Price Foundation and the meat industry. She cancels post on her bolg that explain how to make accurate analisis of metadata. By the way Colin Campbell knows this job very well! She is for raw meat diet! As a vet I can assure you we are not designed for eating animal food and I will not get into the detail because it would take many pages. We have taste buds that do not contemplate aminoacids...our stomach ph is tremendously lacking if compared with true carnivors. Our intestines are long and need time for digestion (12 mt average). A carnivor's intestine is hardly twice the size of the animal and after few hours they expel all the toxic debris of their meals. We need fiber. Carnivors don't. Now how do you figure it out? Be careful before criticizing. You never know who is in front of you and I have lots of animal research behind and what I am telling you is not an opinion. It's facts. Go on eating your meat but don't blame who is on the right side of truth. Ciao...

    • @superbreastman
      @superbreastman 9 лет назад

      Glenn Carr If I were you and believed in transparent dialectic confrontation I'd go here and read Colin Campbell's answer to Denise Minger. A question. But how can a 23 year old non scientist think she can possibly shatter the knowledge of men like Campbell just criticizing some data badly misinterpreted? It took me 40 years of hard study and I just feel nobody in front of researchers like Campbell, McDougall, Fuhrman, Esselstyn, Gerson, Budwig, ect... If I were Minger I'd just step aside and start thinking it differently than just satisfying her personal ego and lifestyle choices others than what important studies have demonstrated to be better choices for health... Think! www.vegsource.com/news/2010/07/china-study-author-colin-campbell-slaps-down-critic-denise-minger.html

    • @rubberlegs15
      @rubberlegs15 9 лет назад

      Lorenzo Catalano I will take the time to look at Campbell's response later when I finish work. In the meantime, can you explain why you have claimed intestine length to be proof of our supposed requirement to eat a plant only diet in light of the fact that our intestine lengths are very different to natures true herbivores? Did you actually look at Minger's side of the story too (the clip I previously linked to with the time location)? If so, can you explain why Campbell claimed not to know of any issues about wheat when a previous paper HE WROTE clearly demonstrates he was perfectly aware of such issues?!! The wishy washy argument that we can discredit the likes of Minger because she is young is a typical response I hear yet as I have previously stated, Minger is actually out there giving advice to vegans on how to remain healthy on a vegan diet rather than trying to convert individuals en masse! Have you looked at her critique or even John Masterjohns? He also 'slapped down' Masterjohn for being young and inexperienced. Later he 'slapped down' the more mature Dr Mercola for following John Masterjohn's critique (supporting it) as he couldn't argue it was due to inexperience! Campbell's anomalies throw serious doubt on his publication and the wheat issue is by far not the only obvious example of where Campbell has contradicted himself. I don't see anybody telling me that Campbell found animal protein to be cancer causing for any other reason than his research into rats (biologically different to humans) when administered aflatoxin at levels that would be impossible through diet alone. Where is this evidence my astute friend? If this research should be considered proof of the cancer causing properties of meat then kindly explain to me why? I'm no great doctor but I do have a decent level of scientific knowledge and enough resource to decide that the arguments Campbell makes while contradicting himself in other research papers of his own writing are at best worthy of questioning and more likely the result of a desire for his beliefs to be right. There is simply no decent science backing Campbell's notions. The book is not peer reviewed and many scientists have poured scorn over it's badly drawn conclusions in many many areas. Trust it if you will, it is your right but if you want me to buy into it then do answer the very fair questions I have raised and do take a look at Minger's critique with an open mind. I suspect to date you haven't. When I return home later I will check out the link you have provided too. I would be a hypocrite not to as an open mind should ALWAYS be adopted.

    • @superbreastman
      @superbreastman 9 лет назад

      Glenn Carr The wheat issue seen by Minger is misleading. Populations with poor diets in terms of fresh fruits and vegetables, having only some flour and meat in order to sustain life during cold periods are obviously suffering disease. It's about a lack of nutrients and it is well demonstarted that the cause of their heart disease is excess meat in the diet and not wheat that alone can give other ailments. It's just the fact these populations have very poor diets and we need good diets to live. No living creature could thrive without the right nutrients. Plants die when the soil is depleted. We die if we don't eat right. Simple hey? Eskimos have bad disease for a very poor nutrient diet even if many say they don't have chronic degenerative disease. False! The equation is simple. If we don't get a healthy and correctly oriented nutrient diet we get sick or die. Try if you don't believe it...Getting back to the intestines...We are NOT meant to eat animal food as I explained. If we do and in small quantities we might not get badly ill but we will not thrive with good health. And I know this from clinical experience! Our intestine is proportional to our height. Herbivors have long intestines but we are just behind them...we are very similar to monogastical herbivors (horses, giraffes, zebras) and are strictly related to primates, gorillas especially. Gorillas only eat fruits and vegetables, mostly fruit, figs mostly. They know hundreds of types of vegetables and they cure themselves changing diet when needed. They know how to eat at a cellular level of need. We don't! We lost the lesson and that is very bad. Gorillas have duplicated genes for starches in their DNA and have taste buds in their tongue for starch. We have 6 duplicated genes for starch (quite a backup hey?) and our tastebuds for starch far exceed the gorillas... We have no tastebuds for aminoacids in our mouth and digestion MUST start in the mouth. Cats or any carnivor has practically only aminoacid tastebuds in their mouth and their pH in the stomach is really very acidic. Ours is relatively acidic. We digest starches easily. We do not digest animal protein if not with very high expense in the process and the necrotic debris that carnivors excrete very quickly takes up to 3 days for us to get out of the body damaging our microbiome and getting bad inflamation throughout the intestine. Ever heard of leaky gut and what happens to the body after it happens...celiac disease, autoimmune disease, lupus, reumathoid arthritis, chronic arthritis? It's all due to animal protein intake because we are absolutely starch eaters. Our DNA is 99% equal to that of gorillas! Our protein comes from vegetables...greens have the highest protein in nature. Where do elephants get their protein? From grass! A human baby needs 2,6 % of protein and it takes it from mothers milk that has 2,6% protein. A potato that is not so proteic has 2,4% of protein and it is enough for our needs plus it has all the good calories, minerals we need. Meat is dead food for us...some protein, no fiber, no vitamins, no minerals, too many omega 6 (remember the leaky gut? Inflamation?) too little omega 3 ... and so on... doesn't all this evidence convince you. Everybody has the right to decide for his own self and choose his or her own lifestyle. I am not here to convince anyone. I am just sharing many years of study, practice and selfcriticism. I was a meat eater because I did not know and nobody told me. I studied, I got answers, I went back to whom we were as primitive men 100.000 years ago and asked... I got to know anthropologists and historians and slowly that huge mixed up puzzle became a very clear picture to me and as a vet I went into the biology and now I know. We are not designed to eat animal food. Period. And whatever people say just to sustain a theory because they want to be conforted in their personal choices well...it's up to them. I just do not care any further... I can share all my knowledge but I can't convince. It's not my job... Ciao.

    Problem is meat tasts so good and eating meat brings people together. So it also has a socio-cultural aspect. For these reasons the meateaters amongst us feel and act threatened when confronted with the benefits of a vegetarian or vegan diet. Fortunately more and more people realise the cruelty that lies underneath this meat consuming world.

    Irishfella1000 -- Evidence-based medicine....ever heard of that? Read the studies on both sides and please keep an open mind. Consider the scientific evidence. The evidence is mounting in favor of WHOLE FOOD nutrition. There are tons of RUclips presentations available from respected scientists and physicians practicing evidence-based medicine to support the whole food plant-based approach to nutrition. John McDougall, Neal Barnard, Dean Ornish, Caldwell Esselstyn and many more. Yes, Americans have been consuming "less fat" and they are fatter than ever -- this is true. However, these high carb, low fat foods have been primarily over-refined "processed foods" manufactured by food companies and are loaded with sugar, mostly high fructose corn sugar, to replace flavor lost when the fat was removed. Of course people eating these low fat foods will get fat. Yes, people will lose weight on an "Atkins-type" high meat, high fat diet -- but at what health costs? My mother ate the way you describe -- high fat, high protein, also probably too much sugar, very few vegetables -- she was not obese or even overweight, but she dropped dead of a massive coronary at age 63. Her mother, my grandmother, ate differently. She was not a vegetarian, but she embraced a diet high in whole foods, fruits and vegetables, minimizing animal protein consumption. She lived to 100, 98 of those years were productive, only the last couple did she start to lose her memory. I know which path I'm following.....just saying...

      There is anecdotal evidence to support both sides. I know of people who ate pork and lard by the pound and liven well into their 90s. It seems to me that a sensible diet is to improve the nutritional quality of it, and that does not have to mean excluding healthy animal products. Of course everyone is different. Vegans are that way for moral reasons, but then try to also justify their diet by claiming that only plant foods are healthy. To this is ideology and not an open mind.

    So very grateful for Dr Campbell and the others who've done this research and are now out trying to educate the rest of us! Been whole food plant based now for 5 months...weight down 30 lbs, off blood pressure meds and getting the same readings I used to get with meds, and cholesterol down to 130 total! I'm 68 and had been a junk-food-and-coke-aholic! But even us old dogs can learn new tricks! SO GRATEFUL!!!

    Thinking about this reminds me of people I knew who died of cancer, my aunt had two daughters by two men, she was married twice, the daughters both died of cancer, breast cancer, so a genetic link seems possible, one had worked in an office full of smokers, one was a vegetarian who had HRT, we thought this could have caused it, an uncle of mine worked in a metal works was a big meat eater , everyone in his group of workers died of cancer, they were working with lead, a friend of mine who was a health fanatic and vegetarian worked as a wood machinist working with tanalised timber , died of cancer at 49, I am positive many people with cancer its work or environment related, would a different diet save them?, we need to look at work situations as well

      Ya I know what you mean but I think diet does play a huge role in limiting the damages of those toxins. Toxins use up nutrients like cholesterol, fatty acids, amino acids and to prevent their introduction from foods into the blood stream it is important to have a strong gut flora to keep the gut sealed and prevent toxins from getting into the blood. For someone to get antibiotics and be exposed to toxic metals I'm almost sure they would absorb much more. Its called SIBO and gut dysbiosis. Sneaky health problems out there or should I say susceptibility to disease. I don't think vegetarian and meat eater are good enough terms to describe the range of diets. vegetarian on whole foods and that eats lots of eggs, probiotic foods, coconut oil and some fish would have a much better chance. and the meat eater who eats non antibiotic or hormone meat that is grassfed and including organ meats, fatty fish and fresh vegetables would be much better off then a meat eater who likes lean steak, burgers and of coarse the fries that come with the burgers (that's fried in vegetable oils and refined salt(toxic salt))

    If you look at this chart---> www.uoguelph.ca/foodscience/dairy-science-and-technology/introduction-dairy-science-and-technology-milk-history-consumption-pr-1 You can see finland who consumes more dairy then netherlands and USA for example has less cancer and france has the least heart disease in all of europe and they enjoy the most butter. This doesn't make sense according to colin t campbells logic. Also the countries on the left are most likely to be avoiding processed, refined foods and prescription drugs, they also are populations less likely to live a sedimentary life and are more traditional/ in the sun. So it is very easy to see the way colin t campbell lines up the statistics to show his point but avoids anything that doesn't fit his narrative. These diseases heart disease and cancer have just surfaced recently , they were rare diseases back then that drs hardly knew about, now it is big news because everyone has it.

      He isn't simply using logic. He's using research first and foremost. Comparing the pretty much the same gene pool under different circumstances.

    • @Vahe345
      @Vahe345 10 лет назад

      Naomi Mordi Collin T Campbells research is not conclusive and very biased. I think his research is only to drive one point and he discards anything that contradicts his point. Most people don't know but Dr. Collin T Campbell himself eats fish. That's because he as a researcher knows the enormous benefits of DHA and vitamin D from fish how it is great for heart health brain health among other things. He is excluding the loads of research that many animal foods are good because he just wants to drive a message, eat vegan but he doesn't even eat vegan himself. The diseases he attributes to animal foods just can't be caused by animal foods when they are new diseases and animal foods are old foods. If he was based on research then why do many drs tell vegans if you don't eat meat or animal foods you got 6 months to live because your liver is going to shut down. That's the reality that's what happens to many people here in Vancouver at least. They go vegan and they have liver problems they lose their gall bladder, they get ezema or psoriasis, digestive problems ect... There is a reason why only few people mainly in warm climates can stay on a vegan or raw vegan diet. I know there are problems out there with food and in general our relationship with nature and this earth. I really believe we can fix it but to demonize animal foods or animals (we are animals) who eat animals for nutrients is just wrong and to change that is destructive because your changing nature and how a species digestive system is designed. We are omnivores

    non fat milk is not bad because it is high protein it is because it is a refined food. The fats balance the food and so do the enzymes that are destroyed by pasteurization. Animal products are not all made the same the animal passes off nutrients or toxins depending on what it eats and if it is fed antibiotics/hormones also stress.

REALLY Ms. Minger? Seriously? It's surreal.

    The idea that a whole plant-based diet can prevent and even cure all those deadly diseases of the 21 century is so simple and so revolutionary that the most of population that loves to complicate everything just can not believe it! I absolutely agree that Dr. Campbell and Dr. Esselstyn deserve a Nobel Prize.

      Well there work is good in some ways but it is not all together a new idea that diet can reverse disease in fact the leading cause of disease is the diet that most of us eat now. Before there was plague, infections, lack of sanitation that is what killed people, so their bodies were resistant to disease. I just don't like how Collin T Powell talks so bad about meat it is not true and his science is deliberately misleading, like the guy himself admit to eating fish despite his studies on animal protein being of no use and always causing damage. Sure if you eat a diet of vegetables you will shake of diseases but you will eventually deplete your stores of fats and other nutrients like vitamin A and D and be in a lot of trouble specially if your thinking about having children soon because children need a lot of those nutrients and even when breast feeding, most of the nutrients in breast milk are not found outside of the animal kingdom. The person who first should get the prizes is Dr. Weston A Price. His dental research really saved my life and his diet is what is reversing my health problems. Tests have been coming back normal and my drs are puzzled they don't like me because I am surpassing their healing abilities with just prescription drugs and my information is beyond their dogma. They keep telling me you can't do it, live with this the rest of your life, you can just take this pill ect... I say Silence! I will find a way and sure enough I'm finding my way, I am on the path of HEALING!

    Yawn...yet another abstract diatribe that absolves one of all choice and control. All one has to do is assume responsibility & control over their food - grow a garden (of any scale) - Kale, spinach, cruciferous vegies etc grow Best from fall-spring! (a cloach if needed); sprout broccoli (see NutritionFactsOrg), eat whole plant food and screw the mountains of processed crap. If you chose to eat meat, fish & crab. Screw this political whining and simply assume responsibility for your behavior.

    Dear Ellie, Agribusiness develops/executes bus mod's to claim ownership over life forms. Such economic reasoning (during 100 yrs of power with money changers) is far from common sense. Individuals support altering of genetic material to sterilize organisms in 1 of 2 generations; let plants produce pesticides; make fish grow x-times faster than natural equivalents;.... We have '1 or 2 yield' corn, or gentech salmon & other examples. It occurs in 1 human generation. Dilution of responsibility?
