A quick walk through setting the input levels of instruments on the Gain page of the SoundCraft UI24R. I use a Boss DR-3 drum machine direct in to the mixer and a Schecter Omen Extreme Bass guitar run into a Hartke 75 amp then line out into the mixer. I will show how to adjust the signals and what proper and improper levels look like. I hope this helps at least one person out there...

OK I recorded this on my phone for a quick reference, sorry for the poor quality. In this video I record from the inputs to Master L/R & Multi track simultaneously. This unit is AWESOME!! It has lots of features, functions, and capabilities. I made this video to show how easy it is to use the recording features. Unfortunately I am not tech savvy and it took a little doing to figure out these si...

Shure Super 55 Deluxe Microphone unboxing
It is compatible with condenser microphone?
@joge917 of course... there is 48v phantom power and the rest is just adjusting... lol I have used many on my system...
Should u log in to enable multitrack?
@Darku1403 it's a good idea to set up your system securely. Limited access to the full mixer controls. However it's entirely your decision. It isn't mandatory to set up your system that way.
We use this to record our Band into Ableton Live. Somehow after a while the playback sound just stopps working. We have Mics connected, and we can still hear things through the microphone, but the playback from Ableton just stopps working. When we restart the mixer its working again. Do you have any idea ?
@Mutzkudem my unit had some "glitches" where restarting the system resolved the issue. After I ignored it for a while things got worse... I suggest updating the software and reaching out to tech support if it persists. My unit stopped recording all together. It happened gradually but they fixed it and quite quickly at that. The folks at Soundcraft are quite awesome!
Next time would you be so kind as to buy an inexpensive mount for your tablet/phone so that the camera view is not wobbling all over the place? It would be so much easier to focus on what you are teaching.
getting free content and still demanding things... :-D
@Mutzkudem People may not watch your free content if it makes them nauseous. It is common practice to stabilize your camera. Sorry you took offense to that.
Any reason why my recording volume in ui24R is very low I’m trying to record mu band sound but once I’m done and let it play in mobile or laptop the file volume is extremely low… Plz give me the solution 🙏🙏
@rishisikhwal. there could be many reasons . I'm not sure of the way you set up your channels for recording. I would start with input gain settings, also what are you using for playback? The issue could be in your DAW configurations.... etc.... There's a couple of places to look , I can tell you that recording the main mix 2 channel has a lower volume than recording individual tracks.
Nice and clear video, very useful for beginners.
Lightening never less than 6 miles away.
Ooh! A Pia! ❤

Diggin' it 🤘🤘
Thanks !!! Much appreciated!!
what usb stick you use? brand and model type pls
Scandic USB 3.0 Got it at office depot
thank you so much. great tutorial!
Gain level should be between -24 and -12 for any input, anything higher is way to much for a live gig, manybe for record this is ok, but no way this working for live
I do not differentiate between studio recording and live performances. I set my levels for the best sound quality on every channel. Our studio is set up for live rehearsals, and we also record with the system sometimes... This is what works for us here... 😎👍
Keith you a bad mutha fucka! ❤❤❤
Thankyou, happens to be exactly what I need to know. Looking forward to more on UI 24R recording tips.
Winner of fucking ugly gear 2020
Thank you.
Did you have to format the usb drive? I inserted two different drives into the “rec” drive and the rec & Play are still greyed out
No, I just bought a two pack USB pkg and used them both straight from the packaging. Try doing a software update on your soundcraft unit. If the system doesn't respond call tech support at Soundcraft. Soundtrack tech support has been awesome whenever I've reached out to them.
Excellent job sir...however my 2track recording came out very soft..what did I do wrong?
Thank You !! I don't think you did anything wrong, the 2 track recording has a lower out put level than the multi track. You can adjust this by uploading the two track file into a DAW and tweaking it from there. You can get a fairly decent recording by doing that however ir is much better to have the individual tracks for a better mixing experience in a DAW
Tab model brand name tell
I'm using an old Ipad ios 12.5.7 Most new apps will not work with my Ipad but the UI24R has no issue. I also use my phone a Z fold 3, or sometimes a lap top thats 10 years old... Soon I'll need to update my tablet to a new one, this one is a dinosaur ... lol
Brother could I ask for some help. My headphones jacks seem to only be routed to aux 9 and aux 10. How do I get those to only monitor the main mix ? Any help appreciated
A few things to check, make sure the "solo" tab is not engaged for those channels, In the settings page / global tab solo routing tab on headphones. Not sure if that's the fix but just check. On the routing tab you can reset to default and see if there is a routing issue, check activate soundcheck to see if it is enabled, lastly using the shows tab, load a default show to see if the problem goes away. You may need to re boot your system if you haven't already. I know these are basic troubleshooting options however without getting knee deep in your system, I can only think of these options. Also READ your manual If you haven't already. There is often a solution there. If you get stuck, call Soundcraft for tech support. They have helped me many, many times and admittedly on simple things helping me to learn more about my unit. I hope this helps
wouldt it fix th latency issue if you fed the sound to a group and send that to the pa?
Hello 👋, I honestly am not sure about sending the signals to a group to solve the latency issue. However if you notice, when we activated soundcheck, the latency was dramatically reduced. Selecting individual signals for the soundcheck mode is easy. I do prefer the use of an Amp or monitor , it's just my preference.
Great explanation and super efficient. Thank you so much. RUclips needs more content like this. Or needs to promote it better.
Thank you 😎
Your poor quality video just solvedx my problem!! Thanks, Man!
Thank you Keith! So that magic button was the key! (Activate soundcheck) More power to your channel! Looking forward to more ui24r videos
hello , it seems that it records reverb and other effects which are applied so can i bypass them and record
There are a few things missing for a proper answer... Which unit? Only the UI24R will record multitrack. It should take the signals just after the pre Amp. Playback, how are you playing back? Using the UI24R and turning on soundcheck, the signal will be put through the same signal chain unless you reroute it to another channel. Any effects will be present in that signal chain until you turn them off. Using a DAW, there should not be any effects. I have not had the chance to research if the signal can be captured at different points in the signal chain. I hopes this helps...
Great video. Recently got my UI24R and currently have a QSC Touchmix 30 Pro. I love the QSC, but am slowly finding ways to love the UI24R too. My Touchmix is so user friendly, I want the Soundcraft to be as well. Wanted to ask you about dumping my multi-track recording down to a 2 track. I can do this in my Touchmix by arming my 2_track and playing my recording back while mixing real-time. Can I do the same with the UI24R? Can I play back the multitrack recording (I guess in soundcheck mode) and mix it while recording to the 2-Track? I just did a recording last night, and will try, but thought I'd ask you as well.
Hello 👋 Thanks 😊 To answer your question, I am not sure... I have used the system to record a layered track, recording one part and then a second during playback etc... however it's been a while and Idon’t recall the process. I'm not sure if it will record in the manner you are looking for. You may have to utilize a DAW to achieve your goal . The system can play back multitrack recordings and still have active input sources, but recording and playback from the same USB is something that I am unsure about..... Need to try it !!!......lol
Ok soooo Curiosity got the better of me and I had a minute. I turned on my system, set up a multitrack recording for my drum kit, recorded a segment of drums, activated sound check, and did a 2 track recording of the multitrack recording. It was quite easy, although the status bar was not moving during the 2 track recording, it did record the multitrack mix to a 2 track .
@@keithtannoya5356 Thank you for your curiosity. 😋. I was able to record to 2-track as well from sound check (multi-track) recording. I was able to sub-mix while the multi-track was playing to get a better result. The one thing I missed that my QSC offers, is that I can set the record level prior to recording my 2-track. But overall, I am satisfied. Thank you for experimenting with me. 👍🏼😋
That's some sweet guitar work.
What sorcery is this? I freaking love it!!!! 🤘✌❤
Thank you 😊
MOTIVATION CHECK!! Keith, this is awesome! 🔥 🇺🇸🇰🇷
I appreciate this soooo much. Quick question -what are you using for your wireless on your guitar?
You are welcome , but thank you for watching 😎👍 In regards to the wireless unit, it's the Line 6 G10 system. I really like it for the simple design but it does have its quirks... There are a few guitars that it doesn't work well with or not at all. It comes with an adapter and my Schecter bass will not work at all unless I use the adapter. I also have a Parker guitar and the system works for the DiMarzio pick ups but not the Piezo pick up.... stuff like that....
Thank you à year later and this was very helpful
Great video, will this Multitrack straight into Cubase?
Yes, my laptop instantly recognized the unit as an interface and received the signals from each channel just after the pre Amp on the Soundcraft UI 24R. The channels are offset , the first ten channel inputs to Cubase are aux signals from the UI24r, so your input signal for channel 1 on the UI24r is input 11 in Cubase. 😎👍
How can i do live recording but all channels have their own recording, like multitracks. I have ui16. Cuz we did a live recording but only one audio has been seen in the recordings files. Pls thank you for replying
Hello 👋 , I believe the UI 16 is does not have a multitrack recording option. That unit can only record the master L&R. The UI 24r has the multitrack capabilities and can be utilized as an interface direct to a DAW. I am not sure if you have the option of trying to use the UI16 as an interface. There is no information regarding the unit as an interface. You cab check the user manual to see if this is a possibility, however I don't think the UI16 will provide more than the master L&R signals.
At the top of the channel it reads what the DB is for the channel, plus there is a thick line next to the fader that is Unity! I find things start to get muddy and distorted when too much gain is added. That effect can be desired at times, but usually not! Don't want it too quiet either because when you start throwing them to the AUX busses for monitoring it can be difficult to dial in good levels. -24 on your mix page is where Unity or zero is on that mixer. Also, at the top of the channel it says what the DB is set for the fader, but the meter next to the fader for that channel lights up and shows you how far up you are going. You wanna be just bellow -24 most of the time, maybe peaking just past it occasionally, depending on if you are using Sub bus mixes before going to the master...remember everything sums at the end...that means the levels will go up the more channels you throw at the master. Watching your eq is important also, because the peak level is going to be the peaks of the eq RTA which you can view in the edit menu.
To much gain if you ask me.
I love this comment! Too many people want more gain and sacrifice the quality of their sound for it. Here, there's a bit of bite coming into the channel from the instrument and Amp. It has a great sound in the room, but in the mix it can spike. That's one of the reasons why I chose this signal for the video. Playing softly, it can easily become buried. Played harder it will be too hot...
How do I split everything up into individual files? I don’t want to just record the whole band as just one file. I want to be able to change the levels and edit the track individually in my DAW
Which unit do you have?
so you set the gains properly and then leave it and now you control the live sound from the volume fader? so when setting the right gain, how loud does your volume fader set at to begin with? Also we noticed in our band that after we set volume/gains of all the channels etc... when we playback an mp3 song from a flashdrive, its way too loud than our band we have to adjust the playback volume down, is this normal?
First question is kind of a trick question... Each input volume setting is going to be different in the mix . Many will start at with the faders all the way down and bring the volume up once your gain setting is set. Some will start at 0 dB, and so on. I recommend starting low (so you can hear the signal) and bringing up your volume fader to a proper level once the desired or maximum gain level is achieved. You may need to readjust your gain level as you go depending on the input signal source. An example of this would be a microphone or acoustic guitar, etc... I want to review the playback of the USB in the system before I answer your second question. It's a really good question. 👍
we tried that with our band but the sound quality is really low compared to other mp3 songs, why?
If you upload your tracks into a DAW (pro tools, Cubase, etc...) then you can use the mastering functions to make the track louder, clearer, and so on. That's what they do in the studios. That's what I do as well. You can also utilize the tools in the Soundcraft system to boost your output however I must mention that the multi track is significantly lower in volume than the individual track recordings. I'm not sure if there is a way to adjust that in the system. I have not found a way. The tech support guys may have a better answer...
@@keithtannoya5356 thanks Keith, we also have another issue. When we make vol/gain adjustments to the best loudest (without clipping) on every channel. The mp3 playback from usb flashdrive is still way more louder than our overall band we have to lower the payback volume. Is this normal? or do we need to find other ways to increase the band volume to match the mp3 playback so like I said all channels are in their loudest reasonable volume and gains, even compressions are added etc.
My apologies, I didn't see this until today... I have seen many bands use MP3 files in different ways and more often than not the files are super loud. in many cases the sound is clipping and sounds terrible because it is too loud and needs to be dialed down. On my system the sound levels match the live levels. perhaps there is something boosting the sound on the playback channel that is linked to the live channels that are boosted causing the output to be louder. Again I apologize for not responding when you sent this. I hope you've already resolved the issue.
Do you use any external wifi router?
I have not needed one. I have seen many folks using one with these types of systems however I have not used my unit for the same venues. My set up has had no issues with the on board wifi system. I do however keep my iPad and laptop in close proximity to the UI24R
