He doesn't say where these teachings come from. They are good principles to live by but remind me of something like the ten commandments. I think traditionally Anishinaabe people have always had these values within our culture... that's what it is to be tribal...we always shared our food etc. Respect is the first teaching... there's a reason why respect comes first. Should people be making money off these cultural values?
Aanii from Southern Ontario..
I wonder if this is my half-brother. I know that I had a brother named Ronald Kingbird who lived on Red Lake Indian Reservation. I have wanted to get to know him but did not know how to find him. We had the same father in common, a Theodore Ralph Roy, from Leech Lake Indian Reservation.
love and respect im always happy to start with a traditional song..good day from california
Thank you for this content, I would like to hear more regarding Ogichada. Am I correct to say that in order to be able to be generous, one would first have to be successful. You can’t give what you don’t have. I think this is so neat, motivating success and productivity with status based on giving and showing generosity. I would love to understand property in Anishinabe culture. Was their private property rights?
❤ your teachings touch my soul .I feel blessed and privileged to hear your teachings as an 81 yearold I wish I'd heard these things as a child .I have a total of 24 children plus all their families I am blessed beyond measure Thank you for sharing with me
Wonderful! I'm just learning about the native American culture, and am humbled and grateful as I see the depth and wisdom and love so strongly in your presentation. The teaching that healing yourself helps heal your ancestors struck a strong chord! Healing myself solely for me is more difficult, so I thank you for this insight.
That's fire 🔥

The thought about Respect crossed my mind as to how it probably breaks down: Re = again and Spect = to see...to see again, resee, look at again...reminded me of The Mishoomis Book where one might go back down the path to see what they might have missed...to have a re-look.
Great book: The Seven Generations and The Seven Grandfather Teachings. Just finished it. It is good to have these teachings in print. Aapijii miigwech young inini James.
Andogwaashkwebijigen, page 29 in Patricia M. Ningawance's Survival Ojibwe is, IMO, a pretty good way to say goodbye, LOL.
SOLID GOLD
It's crazy how many teachings were taken from the Oceti Sakowin when they took our land. I know it was because we forgave them and wanted to live in peace, but there's no mention these teaching and ceremonies came from Lakotas, Dakotas.
Is the tourney over now? Or is there a game this evening?!! I’m late as usual 😂
Come on! This is the last day and still no audio and no score? At least, show the scoreboard!
Boozoo from Vancouver!!
I got tickets to this when I had to go to Michigan … for work.. but when I got to the place .. I learned it use to be a psychiatric hospital .. called the commons so I did not go in.. I .. paid for an Uber back.. hopefully he will come to Roanoke, Virginia where I live bring back the people..

❤The Seven Grandfather Teachings are the principles of character that each Anishinaabe should live by. Love, Respect, Bravery, Truth, Honesty, Humility & Wisdom.❤
That was amazing 🌞🌞🌞
Note for around 1:07:35 -- plenty of human beings aren't hardwired to speak. Human neurologies vary as broadly as our skin colors do (aka neurodiversity). We aren't all wired for speech, and nonspeakers are no less human than speaking people are. With love, a nonspeaker

I am of ogibwe ancestry. How can I learn that song at the beginning? Is there a contact or link I can get please?

Thumbs up for blueberry pie!
Current politics is based on impersonal systems, like making alliances for financial gain, allowing businesses to invest in a foreign country, etc. regardless of how any individuals involved feel about each other or the role they are forced to play. All that to say it doesn't recognize the value and worth of a human being. These teachings, as I'm writing this James is talking about courage, do recognize the true worth of people and that is what a society should be built on. Had to comment again, this video is amazing!
Practicing that unconditional love for so many years would make sure you developed the kind of mindset necessary to be a "leader" or someone who has the wisdom to guide people. I love this video so much!
This is an incredible lecture with amazing implications for a society that lives with these teachings. Thank you for making this available to watch and learn from. These teachings will hopefully form the basis for a return to a better way of life. They are dangerous in the sense that they are not compatible with the European system of economics especially, which is what everything is based on for their society, and with the strength of land back and other movements will hopefully come to the forefront of a new world.
James has a new book out The Seven Generations and the Seven Grandfather Teachings which expands on the presentation here
very beautiful

Ojibwa people should love their language. I would like to watch videos in Ojibwa language.

wow
I have ancestors who lived up in Red Lake area back in the 1800's .... family name was Red Birds in the Willow and their symbol was red wings. I'm doing a family lineage and appreciate any help finding them. Thank you. Miigwich
Chi Miigwech! It is such an honor to hear this ancient wisdom. I truly believe it is the way forward. Although I am a white person, I seek to follow the Seven Grandfathers' teachings and to be a true ally to the Anashinaabeg. My heart is forever connected to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where as a child I would spend part of every summer (the area around Brevort Lake). This is why I feel so warmly toward all of you whose land this is. Endless blessings.
All my relations 🤍💛❤️🖤
Miigwech for sharing!

Miigwech!! 🙏💗🪶 What a wonderful opportunity for your students!!!! ....Aloha from Hawaii!!! I am an Elder with some Native American heritage but unfortunately I do not know who my ancestors were. I feel that what James has to teach is so important in this crucial time of climate changes..... Native Americans have been guardians of these lands for thousands of years, but in the last 200 years, American lands have become toxic to our very existence. This can be changed through a different understanding of our relationships with all of our relatives and different values. James has attracted many listeners because of his Zaagi'idiwin, energy, and passion for the language, culture, and all of creation. As the numbers of followers show, many people are looking for what they can do to SHIFT how we walk on our planet. Technology can be helpful, but it is not going to motivate us to be more conscious of our relationship with all of our Relatives. I send a Gitchi Miiwech and Zaagi'idiwin to James and Red Lake Nation College for what you are doing.
