VHS generation loss
Просмотров 701 тыс.16 лет назад
What happens if you make a copy of a copy of a copy (and so on) of a VHS tape? This experiment shows how the quality degrades with every generation. The copying was done using two PAL VCRs in SP mode. (The video is Fading like a flower by Roxette)

6:26 looks like a 1899 or 1900 vhs tape
dude those don't exist. magnetic AUDIO tape was probably not invented yet
4:55 look like a 1922 vhs tape
3:41 looks likes a late 1940s vhs tape
2:09 1970s early
the first vhs tapes were the late 70s bro/.
Interesting how the audio of the first and second version is so different.
yet after that point it’s pretty much very similar to
i think the first vcr had HIFI but the second vcr did not, converting it to mono linear
The TV is so weak, It loses the quality of it.
By the time it gets beyond 20 years, expect the tape to get caught in the VCR.
6:42 I can’t hear the song
Who needs 8k when you have 23th generation lol
Thank you for making this. Are you well?
He ain’t replying
copying vhs is bad
Not as long as you copy from the original tape, and not from a copy (as showed in vid)
After watching this video the original looks like 4k uhd bluray
Millennial There goes my childhood
5:51-6:57 That is what both of my siblings memories of important stuff looks like
This is one of my favourite songs
❤❤
Always the last to know- auch auf schwedisch wie wundervoll 🥰
Why does VHS lose color?
It’s due to the fragment of the tape consuming much of the color picture which starts to lose pigment of the frame, which fades to black and white color showing after so much VHS TAPE copy after another copy, this generation loss is a demonstration of what happens to the picture after many multiple copies of the same video length.

Покойся с миром,дорогая Мари🙏 Ты навечно осталась в наших сердцах и непревзойденной Королевой музыки 💕
a lot of this was compensated for by whichever time base corrector the video capture card had. i'm sure that without a TBC the results would've been crazier

I thought this video was gone forever. I tried looking for it multiple times within the last few years and could never find it for some reason. I'm glad to see it's still kicking.

Actually a good representation of the aging process in biology. As you age you need to make new cells, so your body just copies old ones. As the copies keep copying copies, the quality degrades. Skin is less elastic and soft, your organs and muscles function less, until eventually you pass away when the quality is too low.
9th 10th 11th 12th 13th be a sus tv
17 reminds me of being a teen in the 90s finding out what 3am TV was on them one channels we didn't get...
When i first encountered generation loss basically i assume its about the quality of a vhs tape degrading over time as each generation of time passes. Like, literally, OUR generation. So, when this song was first produced in 1991, and assuming i got a copy of this tape, i assumed further its during my time the 1st generation occurred, and with the next generations that will follow, this is gonna be the quality of the same tape that will be seen by my great great grandchildren! The funniest part is: at around the 23rd generation, my other great great grandchildren will no longer be able to recognize the video! Well, after i realize how this thing works, i was wrong.
For 1991, That 1st gen video quality is not bad!
Bruh in 1993 we got home hd. But nobody had it because it was sooo expensive
@@mariusbrandiburu6896 yeah i bet
What an ironic song to demonstrate generation loss with.
0:01 0th Generation: The Video was Better 😊
Joni Mitchell listening to a song for her, from Marie...
Some iterations remind me of the struggle we had moving around the bunny ears of a TV to get good reception!😅
I looked for this video a few years ago and it was region blocked. Glad it's not anymore.
The fact that it hit 666k views
imagine living in the future with your great great great grandfather and grandmother's wedding video which was passed through many generations and family members and when you get one, it looks like someone threw it in a blender, and nobody can find the ones most close to the original, so your stuck with whatever this is.
666K VIEWS OH CRAP ITS THE NUMBER OF THE DEVIL
6:15 this is fire 🔥
NO F**KING WAY THIS IA MADE IN 2008!
"old one was so much better 🤓"
I don't think 23 generations is the end. The tape should've survived at least 5-6 more generation losses, in my opinion.
