Braes O' Tullymet
Великобритания
Добавлен 15 янв 2015
Braes O' Tullymet is an e book about this area of Highland Perthshire and may be purchased from Amazon. During my researches I have accumulated many old pictures of the towns of Highland Perthshire and have decided to make short videos of them as promotions for my book.

Teen Ranch Scotland - Burns Ceilidh - 2015
Lots of interesting photographs, all looking as if they were taken in the 20's and 30's. But very little indication of where we were. It looked as if it were pretty cold there, even in summer and there's the title to tell us we're on the road to the Highlands. Were we actually in the Highlands? And where?
"Great North Road to the Scottish Highlands, now called the A9. Images of this route into the Highlands taken from old postcards. The pictures take us from north of Dunkeld to Tomatin south of Inverness, passing through the tourist centre of Pitlochry."
@@braesotullymet3723 Thank you
I love old photos etc. especially when it's a place I've visited. Found this by chance and it has brightened my Sunday morning. Thank you.
Super! So glad you liked it:)
Too quick with the pics!
Ùsed to travel to forfar from dundee with mum and dad by blue bird 🐦 bus in all weather's to my aunt jessie and uncle Jim duthie house up the wee pend next to woolies now an undertakers , uncle Jim's dad owned the orchard bank farm 🚜 pigs and dairy farm till about 1959 , loved going there plenty to do , remember walking to farm by the side of Loch 1955, the bus 🚌 one xmas we had to jump of bus because of snow ,it could not stop but slowed down forfar road dundee 🙂🙂
thanks for sharing your memories, much altered now out by Orchardbank
My sister and my cousin have moved to Pitlochry in 2009 and they are settled with their own families there. Beautiful place. I have been visiting regularly.
Fascinating
Still instantly recognisable. Summer holidays with my Grandparents always meant a trip from Ashintully into “Blairie” on a Saturday for a comic and sweets.
Great! Thanks for posting.
My grandparents came from Forfar. My grandfather was a chemist and had a shop on East High Street. My gran was matron of Forfar Infirmary at the beginning of the 20th century. I spent most of my summer holidays there in the 40s and 50s. My favourite shops were " Sandy" Ianerelli 's ( ice cream ! ) and a sweety shop in Castle Street ( Peter Reid rock ! )
I love itso much
Nothing has changed. Scotland today is still a wet, dreary dull place. Some nice scenery but nothing to do there.
Hmm, no bites yet?
That’s good , payed many a permit on that there bridge,
Lovely, can you tell me how you access here by car?
You can't get a car very close to the falls, you have to hike in: we hiked down from Glenley.
@@braesotullymet3723 thank you, how long does it take and is the hike steep?
@@lizziebeggimbo Maybe about 20 minutes hike through a couple of fields but the waterfalls are in a deep gorge so very precipitous.
@@braesotullymet3723 thank you for this. I'll give it a miss as I'm not great on my feet 🤣
As a child, I lived in Fearnan by Loch Tay. I remember visits to the Birks Cinema I attended Breadalbane Academy. Had my first haircut at McKinnon's barber shop and introduced to ice cream at Mortalli's Ice Cream shop in the square. I understand the poplar avenue has no poplar trees now. A stranger took my photo as a wee boy with my puppy on a seat under the monument on the left of the postcard. It would be nice if someone narrated this video. Brings back memories. Thank you.
not looking forward to the snow melt, even as someone up on brechin road
Have done this walk the other way, and guess what, we were absolutely drenched. In Scotland, would you credit that. 😅
Shithole then , shithole now .
It’s sad.. I live in Forfar at goosecroft so I live extremely close to it.. and I was also at my grans who lives in wellbraehead.
Interesing photographs. A town I've stayed in numerous times when returning to my ancestral country at Weem and westwards in Glenlyon.

I went to school in Forfar, many happy memories ❤️. I live in France now and, with the current pandemic I wonder if I will ever see it again 🥺. Loved the old views 👍
steam trains to killin then mini cruise ....
Hi Braes, nice clip you put together! I am a local and am doing some research into Killins history (for a local exhibition as well). There are a few pics I have never seen before and I was wondering if you could provide your sources, please?
Thanks for your interest, I think most came from the internet - probably some are just part of a larger picture so that may be how you don't recognise them
Beautiful. Thanks for posting. The statute at 3:05, what was it?
The statue is the Killin war memorial
@@braesotullymet3723 Thank you
paradise lost !!!
Not exactly a paradise lost. The roads are better and there is a lot more traffic but I recognise a lot of the places in the old photographs. Driving north up the A9 in the 20s and 30s must have been quite an adventure.
@@tonymaries1652 It's still a dump.
Them Glens are impressive with the steep inclines and forests smack bang in the middle. In fact the old tree stumps are no doubt as impressive in age. Great walk. Mark
Fantastic! Thanks for posting.
Thanks for posting. Nice pictures and music.
I have family there the mearns family ..and Macdonald
Beautiful thank you so much for sharing
nice
My grandfather was born there in 1892
Thank you that was lovely.
Ha, Many happy years living, working and playing in the toon love the photos, thanks for posting them
God it's hardly changed from a lot of these photos.
GREAT VIDEO ENJOYED
Fascinating images as I have been visiting Loch Tay for many years on holiday. What happened to the old steamboats? Were they broken up, or are they sitting on the bottom of the Loch somewhere? The new steamboat at Fearnan. Is it ever going to be finished and launched?
The old steamboats were broken up; the new steamboat.....who knows??
My mum went there l live at green street close to it and my friend lila does as well
My old home town
