      It did sign me up for the monthly subscription plan, but the first three months were free. After a few months, I realized that I had hardly ever needed to use it, so I canceled the monthly subscription. I think I could still use it with the Tesla but I would just pay a higher rate for the charge.

      EPA range, that would be about 130 miles when the car was new. I have over 5% battery degradation, so my current rated range it would be around 120 miles. In my experience, on a road trip in warm weather, my rule of thumb for a full battery would be 280 mile. In winter, I mentally reduce that to 240. So, 40% is 112 miles in summer, and 96 miles in winter. On the other hand, if I do a lot of stop-and-go driving around town, I get better than the rated range, so overall I'm happy with the range. When I've calculated it in the past, I think an all-supercharging trip costs about 60% of the price of a gas one. Supercharging prices have gone up this year, but so have gas prices.

    Just a tip for a new Tesla owner. Your goal should be to arrive at a Supercharger with 5-10% on the battery. Then you will get your fastest charging speeds, therefore waiting at a supercharger the least amount of time. The higher the percentage the slower the charging speed. But of course, there is no right or wrong. Whatever you feel comfortable with. And the 1 kw is no error. That’s exactly what you can expect from a 110.

    • @goingev2186
      @goingev2186 3 года назад

      I didn't keep good track of state of charge going down, but I did noticed that for some of the more steep downhills, I did gain a percent or two of charge, and I used a percent or two on some of the flatter sections. It's probably safe to say that by the time I got to the Asheville city limits, which is right off the parkway, the state of charge was basically net neutral from when I left the top of the mountain. So, that part of the drive was basically free.

    Electrify America is way too expensive compared to EVgo, I only paid $3.00 bucks to go from 4% to 80% and I use pay as you go. ChargePoint is also expensive, they automatically tack on $2.50 for parking at their CCS chargers. It could be that either your battery was too hot or that the EA charger could not charge beyond 39kw. Also, the EA charger was charging you by the minute or kw? If by the minute, the charger is purposely slowed down in order to maximize the amount of money EA can get from their customers, the longer it takes to charge your car the more money EA gets.. Try EVgo next time, your car should charge at its max up til 80%.

    • @goingev2186
      @goingev2186 3 года назад

      I agree that EA is the most expensive, but the EVGo chargers I've tried here in North Carolina are not much cheaper. ChargePoint seems to be the cheapest around here (no parking fees here), but they have very few Level 3 chargers in NC, and I've not found one that charges at faster than 50kWh yet. I think all the chargers I've tried in NC have charged by the kW. I only go to EA chargers when there is not another option, or in this case to get a free charge on Earth Day.

    Wow! I really appreciate the upload, but I am extra curious why you didn't let the car's navigational system plan your route and let it find chargers for you? How many miles per kwh were you averaging? Did you drive in Eco Pro Mode the entire time? I find that the REx does a much better job of holding the battery at speeds not exceeding 65mph in Eco Pro or Eco Pro Plus and with the aircon off..

    • @goingev2186
      @goingev2186 3 года назад

      Thanks for the kind words. I think the i3's built-in navigation is fine for point-to-point, and I like that it shows you a "bubble" around your estimated range. However, I don't find it very intuitive for trip planning, and I haven't found a way to make it find chargers near your route, unless you already know where they are and add them manually as intermediate destinations. (If anyone knows how to make it do route planning like on Teslas or the newer EVs, I'd love to learn.) We've got the car coded to start in Eco Pro mode, and I did leave it in that mode for most of the trip, except the parts where the speed limit was 70mph--then I switched into Comfort, so I could go 5mph above the speed limit without the car scolding me. What you do is definitely better for range, but I was trying to drive more like the average driver on the road for this trip.
