Episode 1 - 3 Shipping Container home (Site prep)
Просмотров 7854 года назад
In this Episode Jonathan supervises a paid friend to level the site for the upcoming house construction and gives a general site tour.
I plan on doing something similar with my two 40 footers. I was thinking of putting some sort of heavy duty tape on the ceiling side of the gap so that the foam doesn't blow through. Do you think that would work? Thanks.
Frustrating that yall didnt show us the finished job. Even if it took you a while to edit and post something is better than nothing.😢
lol that gun, for no reason, fuggin goof ball
Sorry never going to work.
Why? Of course it will work.
what was the width of the metal strip for the roof?
How's the container holding up so far?
Nice work...however please stop using the word bascially.....
Never going to waterproof that joint. The top of each container is convex so water is always going to pool along that joint. You need to cover the two containers with a roof that is pitched in one direction.
So, we were able to obtain a waterproof seal to keep the interior dry. However, you are correct we are planning at some point to build a roof over all three containers to fully seal the space. -J
Why wearing a gun while doing construction work 👀 bears-wolfs? Others 🤔
Love it man! Do you have a floor plan for the entire house? I'm going to start a container home soon with 3 40 footers as well! I'd like to see some ideas 💡 👀
We do, we will do a walk through once we get caught up on editing all the footage and I hope that will give you more ideas. - J
Thanks for the video! Its very informative! Btw! I'm just curious! Its that a bad neighborhood for you to carry a gun while working???
Yeah, I was also wondering why would you would need your gun while building. Maybe wild animals are a problem in the area….
So long story short, we live next to a national forestry. So we constantly have Hunter and others walking onto and across our property. Some of them are armed and it would be a poor idea to confront an armed person while unarmed. Also we have a lot of wild dogs in the area. -J
Thanks for showing this process! How has it held up? I was wondering if I had to put a rubber membrane over the roof? I am not going to have a deck covering my two containers Thanks much looking forward to your answer!!!
So ours has held up very well. We have had no water issues and it is more than solid to walk across. -J
Why are you doing construction work with a gun on your hip? Your trying to hard to look like a bad ass . That's not you.
Did the channel die?
Not dead, just busy unfortunately. We are still working as time allows to edit footage as we are currently living in the house “mostly” completed. -J
What did they say about that red container? They either tried scamming u or just f Ed you. No way that's what you paid for
They said they only inspected for wind and water tightness, not how pretty it was. Not an ideal response to say the least. -J
I think you over thought this.... Get a better spray foam and nozzel then tar the roof and lay thick laminate and put up your railing...
What are you coating the roof with to prevent rust + leaks?
We used a layer of foam, welded steel over the gap with seem welds, and then flex sealed over the entire thing. Also we went back with roof paint to make it all reflective. -J
How are you guys spanning roof rafters over the span of 3 or 2 containers where there are no walls? I kinda see at one point in the video it looks like you've put some kind of horizontal points of attachement up high on the ceiling where 2 containers meet?
We did, I welded in a 4” x 4” x 1/2” beams to support the areas we cut out. So far we have had no deflection. -J
Amateur's!
An apostrophe s does not make a word plural.
Do you have plans of your 3 containers home?
Yes we do, however I plan to publish them at some point in the future so I would not be willing to give them out. -J
Hey. I am about to waterproof the roof of the container house (roof of 3 containers positioned just like yours),and my architect is suggesting this crazy idea that will cost me lots of money. What I wanted to know is, how do yoo collect rainwater because if you leave the containers like that, water will just sit on the roof. It will be awesome if you can send me pictures to my email and maybe I can call you to ask a question or two. My email is hectoralejandromejia@gmail.com * I live in El Salvador, so people here don't have too much experience building this types of houses
Yes, keep on trying dont give up. I would like to know what is cost so far without the doors and windows. I dont mean to be in your business. But my husband has been telling me for the past 3 years to let build a container house and i keep on saying no. However, seeing all these videos has changed my mind about. So that's the only reason I am asking. Because its best to ask persons who are building it. Thanks and i will be watching to the end.
So our total budget for house was under $50K. We’re a little over budget by now. But at that stage I believe we were around $15K
Looks like a good start, we just bought 3/4 acre in Missouri and look to build a 3 container set there, I used some software to put a design together. I plan to put a video together myself also....hope to see your next ones still trying to figure out window framing and ceiling framing.
Im looking for some shipping containers myself 40' an 20'. Where can i get some cheap ones at?
We used a rental place out of Birmingham, AL. But they are a regional place. There are a lot of container sale places. Prices range by regions but around us they range from $1000-$5000 for a 40’ high cube
Appreciate the step by steps. Do you recall the brand/model of the sprayer you ended up liking, and approximately how much primer did it take per container?
I believe it was a Wagner sprayer, and it took about 3 gallons of the rusty metal primer mixed 50/50 with acetone for the inside and out. -J
Hey, no need to apologize for editing delays. In the future, if you want to make that disclaimer, just say it in five seconds, save us 1:20, and get to the cool stuff. You're making an awesome place and that's what we want to see, and old footage is about as cool as new footage.
We are building a 18 container home
That sounds exhausting. I would love to see how that looks and what your planning. - J
Looks amazing man! Doing gods work with those hands!
I built my container home last year. Best decision I've made in a long time. Ill give you a couple suggestions once your living inside. A dehumidifier is mandatory as well as a few rugs on the floor cause its cold naturally 5 months out of the year but other then that i have zero complaints being debt free. Keep staying motivated its amazing to see you guys coming so far!
Ventilating the concealed spaces and sealing all gaps in the shell is essential for proper humidity control.
I'm working on a container home too. Your home and your channel are both further along than mine: ruclips.net/video/n8hxLHQipb0/видео.html
Thanks for sharing.. Keep them vids coming.. Ya doing great & WE want to see how ya did it.. ALL GO0D.......
You should check out Fiver.com you could probably find someone to edit the videos for you for $5
Been missing the videos, glad your back
Just found your site. Looking forward to watching your build.
looking forward to following the Journey planning 2 container houses now. 1 in NC (vacation home)and 1 in Branson, MO (for my mom).
Family brother LOVE....... from New Zealand.. Y'all up and ready to go being it's another year.. WE looking forward to see the build WE in the same boat.. Using insulated polystyrene sandwich panels screwed to lowline roof battens which is 4inch high on 1 side is the only differences.. Mono pitched roof.. ALL GO0D.......
Great project.
Perhaps the weight of those containers will help to keep everything in place, but honestly I would get those welds looked at and done properly. Good try but your house is not something you want to take a chance with.
I agree, the welds were not my finest work. I plan on cleaning most of them off and redoing them before we close in the walls to make sure everything is up to speed. If I'm still not pleased with them I had several friend that are certified welders that said they'd be happy to help. - J
@@jandlatlife7610 Agree. I am also not great at welding. I pay to get mine done - its just not worth saving money in the wrong places.
Thanks for the video. Curious why you created a foundation the whole length of the container rather than evenly spaced piers along each side?
The primary reason was ease of install. The concrete guy we talked to was not super keen on doing the piers. Whether it was due to the rocky soil, the muddy ground, or just the difficulty in ensuring they would all be perfectly level and plumb to each other. The full foundation was just easier, not to mention we like the look as well. But you are correct that it would have been perfectly fine with doing piers.- J
How thick is the metal strips you are welding on the roof
it is only about 1/16th inch thick I believe. -J
G'day from Australia! Just found ya channel but can't see eps 1 to 3! Interested to see how the project goes! :-)
