Lou's Trains
Добавлен 17 май 2010
This channel shows my O Gauge model train layout consisting of a 13x6 foot main layout, a 4x10 yard, and a 4x10 loop below the yard. The yard allows up to 4 trains to be switched out on the main line during operation. 4 trains can run simultaneously. Pennsylvania, Erie Lackawanna, Lehigh Valley, and the BNSF family (railroads that have combined into it) are the main targets of my collection. The scenery is inspired by the Star Wars forest moon of Endor. I have loved trains since I was a little kid and I've always wanted to build a model railroad. I hope you enjoy the videos!

If possible, could you share your layout dimensions? I see you have at least 4 or maybe 6 tables going across your main layout, but anything you can share would be awesome. Also, do you know where I could get a backdrop like yours to use it like you did. I appears to be some type of hanging fabric with a awesome tree line. I think your setup is the best I've seen. It's small enough for most to do, but yet very detailed in it's design. - Very nice!!! - Thanks.
Thanks for the positive comments. Dimensions are a 13x6 foot main layout, a 4x10 yard, and a 4x10 loop below the yard. And although I recommend building a table I used home depots 6 foot tables to create this as I wasn't sure my true plan at first. Look at Tapestry's on Amazon and you'll come across this one. I do pack a lot into the area and focused heavily on every type of model tree I could find, and did not put a tunnel focusing on train viewing; Some caveats - the outer loop is 060 not 072 and the table height is only about 30", lower than what's typically recommended; both of those dimensions allow you enough room to reach the center but sacrifice running the largest trains they make. If you want 072 you'll need to design a way to get to center of the layout for scenery. This is why you'll see cut out paths, shaped designs, and or hidden access from under the table for those building the larger layouts. Hope this helps!
Very nice indeed
Wow!!! Those E6s are amazing!!
I know right? Very happy and they match those MTH cars pretty well.
@@LousTrains1523 That 777 Berk is amazing as well! I already committed to the Halloween and RF&P F19s and the AEC set. I was tapped out! LOL!
@@Craig-fe5hr Good selections. Too many engines to get, those F-19s look pretty awesome I hope supplies hold out until I can get one! Can't get them all though.
Cool. Is this model locomotive rare?
@martistytas1674 This is a limited run from Pats trains he has a few left. This is a fantasy scheme and considering it's a limited run it's rarish yes.
Looks awesome, happy new year!
I was totally skeptical of this set, but it looks and sounds perfect on your layout. Awesome!!
@RABSTRAINS On the surface, especially from the catalog, you may be skeptical but in person it's cool. What would really make this is if you have a few Army trains you run a full configuration! I do not unfortunately.
@ agreed.
is the siren a sound effect the engine plays or is it the horn?
@traincrazymotive The siren is one of the horns.
That’s a really cool set!!!
Awesome channel great video keep them up make sure you like and subscribe thank you for your support I have more train videos
Great vidio, nice loco details wow, and what are your curtains backdrop. Thanks for the morning coffee...
Happy Holidays to you
You got good filming skills.Nice continuous running session
Beautiful, looking locomotive! Love that black war bonnet paint scheme! Very nice Lou!👍
I like the engine. Wish they made engines that had a super smoke feature where it would just pour out. My only little gripe is that the engine has a shiny finish. I do like the whistle smoke. You need to get a maintenance of way weed killer car🙂.
LOL, in retrospect if the grass was about 25% shorter it would look better. I could actually cut it, but I'm afraid it'll thin it out too much - things for the next layout! Generally I love matte type finish I'll give you that but I'm ok with this one as the vibrant colors fit the fantasy look.
I have to give you a little bit of a hard time🙂.
Awesome run session! 🚂
Sorry for so many questions. I asked you a question about the other whistles on the engine but also wondering what curves those are in your first turn on the video: O48, O60, O72?
No worries about the questions. The outer loop is 060 the inner and upper loop are 036. The yard off to the right can load 2 of my longer trains at 060 and 2 more shorter trains at 036 so I can live switch out the main loop with a few trains without cutting power. At some point when I rebuild the layout I'll get an 072 loop but I've noticed at that size table access ports to reach the inside of the layout become necessary! That's why many larger layouts are horseshoe shaped, or have a large circle with an open middle.
@@LousTrains1523Thanks for letting me know! I’ve got O48 curves but with 4” straight pieces between each O48 curve to stretch out the curve. I think it will work with the Berkshire, people have reported Berkshires running on O48 in the past. Part of me didn’t want to risk it, but that Locomotive is so gorgeous I’m leaning towards giving it a shot.
@@INDYNOIR1 I'd be very curious if that would work. In fact I wanted to test if my L1 Mikado's (042) could run on those 036 loops inside as they have a 10" straight; I haven't done it because I'm worried about breaking something - maybe I'm being a bit to conservative. I agree about the engine looks, it didn't fit my collection road names but that blue!
@@LousTrains1523I’ll let you know if it works for sure.
@@LousTrains1523 I received the train. It works just fine on 048 with little straight pieces between each curve. I'm guessing it would also work fine on just a full 048 curve but I haven't tried that yet. It does have the Jclass whistle and N&W Hooter which was another plus. Beautiful locomotive, Love it!
That Berkshire has an awesome paint scheme!!!
Where these the cars you were looking for or did you have a different set in mind? They look really nice. You should change that Pennsylvania bridge out for a Lackawanna one😏.
@gregleuze6657 Thanks Greg! Yes these were on the list. I actually am thinking about getting a few more of those bridges and put them all out.
I was waiting for you to do some uncoupling.Nice clear video
I should have done that - uncoupled and have the SD50 take off out of view. Thanks for suggestion definitely next time!
@ I do uncoupling y’all the time
Nice yard session Lou! I really like that B&O Caboose! 🚂👍
Thanks I got that caboose at a train show for a good deal it's very pretty. I also like that new SD50 with Chessie the cat on it! I'm going to run another session with the full layout on that one soon.
@@LousTrains1523 I just recently bought a whole bunch of K Line smoking cabooses. The level of detail is amazing. And not to mention, they are smoking cabooses. Thanks for the information Lou. I will definitely look for a B&O. I love that SD 50. I don’t have any of them in my collection as of yet.
@@TwistedMacGyversTrains A train store by me got an estate sale and lots of K-line cabooses for good deals. I think they have a C&O caboose I might check this weekend if I can. I've been trying not to get too many 'repeats' and this is my first SD50.
Same here, I’m really trying not to get and repeated cabooses unless they’re different. You definitely will not be disappointed. 👍
fun-ish
Very cool, nice layout.
Side by side and then under the bridge together makes for some top-shelf train action. Very nice!! Thanks for sharing! 🎄
@Dadified86 Thanks Mike!! I saw this challenge from Bill on your channel I'm glad I did!
Fantastic, Lou! Not one, but three awesome trains of box cars. Your layout looks great, and it was fun watching your trains of box cars run around it. Thank you so much for taking part in this year's challenge. Well done and I hope you had a good time! You can definitely say, "Bill B., I did it!" Bill
Thanks Bill I appreciate the kind words. It's great that you do these video challenges to stir up a love of trains amongst the model train community. I hope you have a great holiday season!

Awesome paint scheme on that Berkshire, l I love it. 💯

Thanks Frank, I could shoot videos of that Berk all day long lol. But I figured I'd mix in some random rolling stock I picked up recently.
Great idea! You definitely nailed it!
That’s a Nice Railroad System.I seen a RUclipsr recording trains while you were filming
That's no surprise, this layout is so amazing it should be filmed every way possible!
@ I agree.I like the way you filmed the Trains without cutting the video,So we can see the performance of the trains on the layout. Some people cut up the video and don’t show the path of train,or where it’s going or coming from.like that RUclipsr that was filming and almost drop his phone. It’s appears he didn’t want you filming him filming content from Hi Railers Club.Is that the Vice President
@OgaugeTrainsplusslotCars I try to film all my train videos as a single cut to show continuous action and in this one I tried my best to avoid people in the video. I asked a number of members if it was ok to film, even those in the booth up top, and they seems very enthusiastic about it and said go for it. This layout is a testament to hard work, effort and a love of trains of those club members!
Man that Train looks gorgeous.Runs like a Ross Royce
I never heard of a Ross Royce. Do you mean Rolls Royce?
Beautiful locomotive
Waiting for mine to arrive! It’s a beautiful engine.
What a paint job. Striking.
Omg what is that whistle it’s so beautiful don’t think I’ve heard it before from Lionel
@thefuriousgamer2553 I've gotten quite a few engines in the last year and I don't think I've heard it before either, but I can't be certain it's not on another engine! It's amazing though which is why I went with it.
That's a Hancock 3 chime whistle. The same whistle 611 has
@joemalone6923 Nice thanks for the info!
@@LousTrains1523 You're welcome
@@LousTrains1523Amazimg whistle. I know the 777 also has the Berkshire 765 whistle. Do you know the other 3 whistles? Hoping it’s got the Norkolk & Western Hooter & JClass whistle I’ve heard on some other new 2024 Berkshires?

@gregleuze6657 lol I didn't realize. Yes it would be cool if they numbered them like that now I follow
Congratulations Lou! That 777 is gorgeous! I love it!!
@TwistedMacGyversTrains Yes thank you - I've seen a few of these and I liked this one the best!
I hope that there are passenger cars made for that engine.
@@LousTrains1523I exceeded my budget so I couldn’t order that one. I did order the Polar Express with every passenger car. That arrived today thanks to Mr Muffin! I’m pretty sure they’ll be coming out with matching passenger cars real soon. 👍
@@gregleuze6657 I’m pretty sure they will Greg. 👍
@TwistedMacGyversTrains This was not an easy call because it's the 20th anniversary for Polar Express and that's a big deal. I ended up getting an LC 2.0 Polar Express and it's solid. Too many options so much $$$.
Throwing out the smoke! Nice run session. 💯
Thanks John I love the smoke units and find that to be an awesome part of running these engines!
Thank you for this Lou! "TRAINtastic" is an understatement! My eyes went into overload and my coffee tasted 10X better. Absolutely incredible! I would need a tent and sleeping bag to take all of that in. Although I probably would not sleep LOL Thanks again for sharing such an amazing Hi Railer's Dreamworld 👍👍
Gorgeous layout, where did you get your grass?
Thank you! It's MAYSHINE Artificial Grass Door Mat listed on Amazon. It's not very good for its intended purpose as some of the grass flakes out a bit but it worked fairly well for my layout.
