Intro to Steeking: Falling into Autumn Knit Headband
Learn steeking!
Sponsored by the @handsonknittingcenter1294 this FREE one-hour class will cover everything you need to know about steeking, demonstrated on a gorgeous autumnal knit headband.
Stranded colorwork is most easily worked in the round. Which is great when you want a pullover. But if you want a cardigan, your choice is to work it flat or to steek it. A steek is simply an area roughly 7 stitches wide that we add to a piece to later cut and pick up stitches. They can be added for V-necks, sleeves, or button bands.
In the Intro to Steeking we will knit a headband in the round using the Falling into Autumn motif that is also in the Steeked Cardigan KAL. It also acts as your gauge swatc...

Learn to Block Knit and Crochet Projects
Great class. Detailed instructions.
I need that you knit slooowly and stop talking when you show catch flow here, please?
Yikes! I guess this was her first video so I will congratulate her on that... but more experience at making tutorials seems to be needed.
I have a ton of hoodies. Great fabric to use. Thanks for the idea!
Thank you this was very helpful
She did a great job thank you
I put the threader through the needle eye, THEN put the thread in the threader and pull back through.
I have found that the needles & pins, in my pin cushions, rust. They are older cushions. Do newer cushions do that? i.e. What was the stuffing in the older cushions, and what is used in the newer ones? I do have a magnetic holder, but assumed the cushions would also sharpen. Thanks! I missed the Zoom meeting, and am watching the RUclips session, now. I've been sewing for 73 yrs, so we'll see if I learn something new.
Love your video. Is there a way to take any chart and turn it into a slip mosaic knit pattern?
I’ve never seen anyone fart about making a slip knot 🙈
Sounds like Fair Isle color pooling.
Great tutorial. Learned sooo much!!
She does slur her words a tad..very hard to understand at times.
No comments on preventing jogs? Does she ignore them??
Beautiful hat! I’m just learning fair isle, this was very helpful.
While the tutorial is good, I find she just speaks too fast. At times I couldn’t even understand what she was saying. Completely missed the title of some fiber fest in SoCal because she said the name so fast. I also never heard an explanation of why you need to do a left-hand catching of the float. Not that great for a brand new fair isle tutorial but it could be just me.
You should always make your slip knot with the working yarn and not the end
This looks like a great tutorial. I missed the live and wondering if that is why it is so blurry. Difficult to see the details in her work, which is pretty important...
✌️ Promo_SM
Sorry I missed the 4am tutorial. Thanks for the catch up. Brilliant! Makes it so easy to make knots. 🎉
How big are your triangles? And do you keep the knot slightly loose?
I think I figured out why it wasn't looking like a knot. 😂
I need a close-up of the Danish knot.😅 I don't feel like I'm doing them correctly.😅
I like bullion knots. I just need more patterns that include them.
When I do more than 4 wraps, I will twist my needle as I pull through.
Me!!
How do you keep the straight stitch from becoming loose?
Re the previous comment, If you cannot say something at least positive don't say anything at all
Can you speak without saying "um" every few words?
Wow. You are not kind at all. Why don't you try doing something like this.
This make it look easy I won’t shy away the next time thanks.
I am not seeing the pattern.
I hate stranded knitting, so I'm hoping this will help me do more than one color at a time. What I really want is a grid pattern and learn to follow it.
Thank you for this class
When I learned continental, I gave myself 3 hours of uninterrupted time to watch videos and practice. It took me the full time to really get it ( I had been a thrower for 40+ years) but once I got it, I loved it.
It work for me I have man in my freezer
Great teacher
🙈 *Promosm*
Thank you Hortense
Didn't work
Thanks!!! I’ve been crocheting since I was 10. I’m 65 now. I’m always up for learning a new stitch.
I love love this stitch, very well taught x
I love a good wooden hook such as knit picks.
Sorry I couldn’t make the live session, going to watch this after my chores.
Thanks for this - wonderful class!
Thank you from this beginner! When you unplugged the machine that wasn't working, you unplugged two cords. One is obviously the power cord. What is the second one?
Thank you for the replay! I wasn't able to attend the original class.
I bought 12 mats (3 in each strength: fabric, light, standard, strong) before I realized I could just re-tack them with Aleene's Tack It Again and Again. plus water!
I'm so excited it's posted tysvm!.. 😊 😁😉💃 💃 💃... loved this class!.. can't wait for camp too!.. and tysvm Dana & Angie!
When sewing buttons: it is useful to mark the place where the button will go, specially if you are going to sew several buttons and you already have the position of the buttonhole. This is also important for hook and eye and snaps.
I found it incredible her not knowing how to use the needle threader. It is my great aid when sewing.
Nice shawl 😀 And sooo easy to crochet 👍 Thank you !
