THC Programmable Pulse Matrix + 296 Spectral Processor Drum Machine - Buchla System
Просмотров 6208 месяцев назад
Another session from last weekend with the PPM. I made a drum machine by running a triangle wave oscillator and white noise into the odd and even inputs on the 296. I then used three channels of the PPM to drive three 281 envelopes, routed those to the program inputs on the 296, and used a ton of short banana cables to build up a kick, snare, and high hat sound.
THC Programmable Pulse Matrix + MARF Stage & Envelope Sequencing - Buchla System
Просмотров 7928 месяцев назад
I’ve had the Programmable Pulse Matrix for over a year, but I haven’t used it very much. I decided to put it in the case this weekend and spend some time patching with it. Here I have 2 channels patched to advancing the stages of the MARF, while the other two channels are triggering the envelopes for these MARF sequences. Lots of fun rhythmic variations to be had, and could be quickly changed o...
Triglav Modular Clockwork Card Jam
Просмотров 782Год назад
An exploratory jam with the amazing Triglav Clockwork Card. I’m using the specialty CLIX mode and the card’s internal clock. This allowed me to change the pulser’s decay length with random voltages making for a more dynamic “envelope” to drive the LPG. Some kind of delay device was used, but I can’t remember what it was.

Buchla - Dissonance Makes The Best Bongos
Просмотров 4582 года назад
Basic Buchla bongo setup with the 259, 281 and 292, but the principal oscillator is being heavily modulated and filtered through the 296. The 292 is opened up to reveal the nastiness brewing underneath the LPG. Got a good pattern and set of notes going with the MARF. It’s enhanced by the 288 delay and it’s preset delay taps are rotating the sounds around the room.

Great ☺♥♪
Apple Music recommended your album “are you working with me, or against me?” And I loved it! Glad to see you do RUclips too, this sounds great!
@@Dahkkloudmusic Thanks so much!
Excellent performance!!! You really master this beast.
What were the pedals you were using?
Specially the one next to the Peterson :) and the last one!
I didn’t use any of the pedals in this clip, but I think the lineup was a Swart treble booster, Fulltone ultimate octave, a phaser pedal called a Whetstone by a brand I can’t recall, and a Maxon AD999 delay.
@@darksparklermusic thank you man! love your channel by the way :)
I really enjoyed this! If you don't mind me asking, how are you addressing the stages on the side of the MARF that's doing the quicker arpeggios and is it grabbing the notes from the same sequencer that is out of the shot (that's doing the main chords)? Really cool stuff. You are the MARF master!
Thanks so much! The second (faster) function generator is pulling notes from the same sequencer, but it's being addressed by a few different factors. A random voltage that is getting triggered on stage 1 by the first function generator on the MARF, and that is going into the external input of the second function generator. The first function generator is also sending it's all pulses output into the strobe input of the second function generator so it kind of acts like a reset trigger, but it resets to the stage that the current random voltage dictates. I then add the second function generator's internal clock to sequentially advance through the stages at a rate that is faster than the first function generator's clock. I also use another random voltage to vary the speed of the internal clock on the second function generator.
@@darksparklermusic Incredibly clever! Thanks for the explanation. I need to rewatch your MARF videos. I'm a MBV fan as well, excellent cover BTW!
love this!
How are you sequencing the gate on this?
I am using the MARF's 4 programmable pulse outputs to trigger 4 envelopes.
Amazing performance!
Thanks hiwattbob! I've been a fan of your channel for a long time.
@@darksparklermusic mutual-I just sub’d! But you’ve been in my algorithm stream for a while.
Just gorgeous! Are you using a Cirklon sequencer to provide the root note for your beautiful arpeggio on the MARF?
Thanks so much! There’s another 4 channel Buchla sequencer down below (out of the shot) that is feeding the MARF the 4 notes of the chord, and the MARF is arpeggiating through those notes and advancing the 4 channel sequencer through it’s chords.

This is a beautiful piece thank you for posting it -Manuel
This is so sick!
That sounds sooooo good. My ears thanks you 🙏
Thanks for listening!
Wow
I just imagined aliens landing, asking me , "what kind of music you got here on earth? " than showing them this video to get the response, "no way we have the same song on our planet'
Haha. I'll take that as a complement😅
Whoa this is so cool. What modules are you using? I dont recognize any of them.
They are mostly Buchla 200 series clones.
A break down of the patch would be very welcome. Are all these sounds generated live all at once??? Thanks 🎉🎉🎉
Yes, it’s just the sound of the two oscillators from the 259 blended in the 296 filter. I demo this concept in an episode of the podcast we did on the 296. ruclips.net/video/QTQIBs059EA/видео.htmlsi=KBzfab5da4lNjrEu
Very impressive to learn how many sounds can be had from a single source. I guessing the combined sound of the both oscillators is complex waveform rich in harmonics??? Thanks for sharing 🎉🎉🎉
This is just sublime. Well done.
Beautiful! Top notch.
By the way, what is that module to the left of 292???
@@precarious333music Thanks so much, and it's a custom module that I will hopefully be able to share more about in the future.
@@darksparklermusic Cool! Fingers crossed it's an octa-function generator! 🤩

Very tasteful. Nice work.
Thanks Kent!
🤯 mind blowingly captivating! Amazing shifting articulations, arabesques and sequences! Bravo‼️Is the MVP in play?
Thanks Todd! And the MVP is always in play🤘
@@darksparklermusic 🤩💥♥️
The layering is beautiful nice work with this one.
Thanks so much!
💖 *PromoSM*
Such a nice build of those choice layers through the first half. 👍
YeS!
This is a great piece of music, completely aside from the gear used (which is also really cool to see of course). Love the way the song builds and grows in layers over time.
Thanks Sean!
What’s that keypad module to the far left?
It’s the Programmable Pulse Matrix thehumancomparator.net/PPM%20Manual.pdf
Nicely done!
Thanks!
Great patch!
Love the slow development, great sounds, especially the glissando instrument that sounds like a new hybrid waterphone-theremin! Bravo!
All hail the Buchla drum machines!
That was sick!!
This is awesome, and demonstrates an impressive amount of control and intention. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
dang! this is so good!
Thank you!
Wow! This patch is incredible 😮
Thanks so much!🙂
Awesome! 👍
Thank you!
Love it
Thanks dude!
Oh man the tactile experience programming this patch seems like half the fun!
Hell yeah! It's all about the journey.
So awesome, love the way it grows!
Thanks!😊
Amazing, great to see this thing out in the wild...

Cool patch and performance. 😎👍
Thanks buddy. Good to hear from you!
@@darksparklermusic Likewise my friend! 🤗 Did I see that correctly on LinkedIn that you aren't in the Seattle area any more?
@@JohnLRice No, I’m still around. The people at LinkedIn are high.
@@darksparklermusic 😆👍 Maybe it was me . . . I don't get high, but I compensate often by being stupid! 😊
@@JohnLRice Sheesh man! Go easy on yourself.
Only half way through the vid 😱 🤯
Thanks buddy!
💕
Man I could listen to this for hours. Nicely played!
Really nice!
Your easel videos are awesome! Really learning lots of tricks from watching them! Question for you. Would you go retro or modern from the new iterations? I don’t have plans (or cash) to add another Buchla system so brain says modern but love the simplicity and look of the retro… interested in your opinion!!
Thanks so much! I usually lean towards more functions, so I would probably get the “modern” option because of the really useful CV processing it has on its power “module” and the extra module space to allow you to expand into things like more sequencing, filters, function generators, random, effects, or cv processors.
@@darksparklermusic thanks for the reply!! Really helpful especially from someone who is such an easel connoisseur! It’s hard because the retro sure looks nice with the zero type case. Beauty vs function I guess!
excellent ... buchla blues are good too!
