I recently found this anime thanks to this channel and it was so awesome. Thank you very much.
I'm gonna be that person and say that I kinda love the dub in weird-looking-puppy kind of way.
Shout-out to Peter for downloading the SJ app just to read Chainsaw Man. You a real one fr 😎
AHH!! I've been eagerly awaiting this!! So excited to hear the team's thoughts!
Soo glad you guys did a podcast on this series. I binged it without anyone to talk to, and couldn't find anyone talking about it, so I had a lot of trouble trying to unpack how I feel about the narrative. Listening to this podcast has helped me process the series a bit more, and overall my impression has become a lot more positive 💜
These are some of the worst reviews I've ever heard smh
Loving and living for these!!!!! 🌹👰♀🗡🥚🐄🔔
Why is this being uploaded so late?
It's a breath of fresh air hearing such discussions from people that I would place outside of Nisioisin and Shaft's target audience. So many folks just hear the negative parts and write it off entirely, so I appreciate that you're still willing to give it a fair shot. Even if I do disagree with a lot of the takes. I'd love to see how your opinions evolve as you keep going, especially in the later half. Keep pushing through it! If you aren't already, I hope you all come to enjoy your time with the series. It is one of my favorites.
while I disagree with may of the takes here I respect your guys's nuanced opinions and would love to watch more of them on the series
Thanks for the quality content and the analysis :D
I love Princess Tutu
Loved the episode
Looking forward to the end of season podcast! (Btw Please don’t arbitrarily shorten it to be within an hour or something. We wait months for it and so rushing through all the important shows to hit a target time despite all the things people have to say is super disappointing and honestly frustrating)
When’s last season’s wrap up?
3:06 I just realized the electricity rap from Meiji Tokyo Renka is the 2010s equivalent of the Kodocha raps, with both being shoujo anime directed by Akitarou Daichi
Looking forward to the new season wrap up for spring! WIll numb a tiny bit of the pain of this season -_-
Sincerely Michiko to Hatchin deserved a second season more than a spin-off on Atsuko, and a lot of it is because its main characters are very human. Atsuko so praised by you is an example of this, she may not be a corrupt police officer, but her methods leave much to be desired ... First it was she who gave Michiko the reason to escape the prison when revealing the photo of Hatchin. And why did you do that? Guilty for having arrested the loved one knowing that she is innocent? And if you knew why you did it? Because of the consequent promotion achieved by her arrest? Revenge? Or more likely he arrested Michiko trying to save her from herself? As shown in episode 13 by flashbacks to her relationship with Michiko through her contact with Vanessa Lee, and seeing in her both an appearance and a similar attitude to Michiko, it is clear that she chose to leave this life because sooner or later would end up dying as it almost did in that flashback. In addition to pointing out that Atsuko has no friends in the police or even outside, she is a lonely person with no family just Michiko, and that's the point about this relationship, Atsuko loves Michiko because she is his family and maybe unrequited love, not for did she arrest Michiko just when all the gangs wanted to kill her, because they blamed her for the war that was unleashed. And even at the end Atsuko managed to be indifferent to Michiko, because soon after she again gave her more wills, In fact, why Atsuko having Michiko handcuffed in his hands would make that agreement? If she had the situation completely under her control? To whom she had just promised that she would treat her as a stranger, this treatment contradicts this speech. And again, there was Atsuko risking his career for a "stranger." And it was not just a risk, but at least 3. First, trust Michiko's word that she would surrender after letting Hatchin flee with Hiroshi, her father. And Atsuko relies so much on her that it gave her plenty of time to say goodbye to them before surrendering, all without the company of any guards to ensure she would keep the word. Second to let Michiko's hostage run away with her father. Regardless of the abuse of Hatchin, there is no indication that his adoptive parents suffered reprisals from the law for their actions. So Hatchin could be put back to this home or to an orphanage.
Third Hiroshi though forged his own death, is alive and well, people forget, but he is also a thug and probably with more crimes than Michiko seen to have been Satoshi's right-hand man for years, inside a criminal faction. And Atsuko, lets him go with the girl even knowing of his worrying history, both the criminal and the abandonment, leaving Hatchin in a situation of vulnerability. Oh, I ask you again, would a person do all this for a stranger or an enemy? Since Michiko might not have kept the word and was sent off with Hiroshi and Hatchin. No, no one would risk so much for a stranger. Especially a police officer like Atsuko, whose methods I repeat are far from following the manual, honestly the initial impression that lies in the end is that the relationship of the two returned to the same impasse as before. Or maybe she evolved, and she noted that she was hypocritical in saying that Michiko was just using her daughter as an excuse to find Hiroshi, and that Atsuko herself had used Hatchin from the beginning, and even when the girl was kidnapped by Satoshi, she was more concerned with her feelings than with her well-being. Unlike Michiko who sacrifices his freedom for the happiness and security of it and also for the career of Atsuko. A critique of the podcast, contrary to what is said on Wikipedia, Michiko and Hatchin are reunited 7 years later, this is shown by translating Hana's letter. It's in Portuguese "This is the first time I write a letter It's been 7 years and you're fine. Were not you sick? still wreaking havoc? Last year, my baby was born. His name is Julio, a very clever boy. we enjoy life together I write again see you later Hana morenos.
To conclude, I believe Michiko has fled again from prison, and that goes well with the title of the last chapter of the series. And it explains why Michiko instead of going after Hatchin preferred to send pieces of her clothes to give clues to her about his whereabouts, so that they could meet again. How could Michiko have tracked Hatchin from such a long distance and been unable to get around much since she was wanted? Did Atsuko again help Michiko? It is very likely that many people think Michiko was after a man in search of Hiroshi, but what she really wanted was a family, after all, this is the tragedy of her life, someone always abandoned by everything and everyone. Orphan, without a father and mother, was raised in a front orphanage that trafficked children, and when she was younger, she was invisible to the society in which she lives, for the simple fact that she was a dark-skinned half-breed never adopted like Atsuko. And then, she grows up in that environment that does not give her the minimum education and instruction for her training as a citizen, a fact proven in episode 5, when the head of the orphanage complains about the quality of the writing of Michiko's letter. Later she is abandoned by everyone, by Atsuko who arrests her, by Hiroshi who forges her death, by Ivan and his brother who blame the war between "Monstro Preto" and "Fantasma". A person like Michiko having to survive in a world so deeply selfish and hypocritical, can not afford not to be selfish ... The end of the series is optimistic because it shows that there is only one way these women can survive this world hostile to them, they need to trust each other, this is sisterhood.
however, i do really hold the anime to my heart because its so slice of life and the rarity really does drive home its imperfect "perfectness" the ending of the manga did really turn me off because of takatuski's ending but i do love shuichi and agh it's just so good
i just wanted to say THIS IS AMAZING, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS EPISODE AND I LOVED LISTENING TO these INSIGHTS, i couldnt believe ive found such good discussion about this anime this recently :') as a trans guy, thank you, thank you thank you
24:53 The storyboarder for episode 20 was Tomoki Kyouda, who also directed and storyboarded ep 24 (the backstory episode where Kyoya meets Tamaki). The only full series he's directed are the various entries in the Eureka Seven franchise. In terms of recent work, he recently storyboarded the 2nd, 10th, and last episodes of Gundam Witch from Mercury season 1.
Have you guys seen The Rose of Versailles? I would love to here it talked about from a feminist perspective.
What happened to the mid-season catchup? It's nearly episode 10 for most shows?
I wonder what percentage of people find this project after watching "Bloom Into You".
Pretty interesting watch, i'm curious to know your takes on Season 2 Also never watch Konosuba lol
1:13:29 I was pleasantly surprised Princess Principal continued in the form of 6 announced movies (2/6 are released at the time of writing this). Anime originals rarely get that type of longevity these days.
💔 promo sm!!
I liked revisiting this show. I do remember enjoying it immensely while it was on. Possibly the most successful original anime concept at the time, I'm always thankful for animes that aren't based on other media, but they mostly do fall down at the end due to the nature of how anime is made, watch is sad. (Wonder Egg Priority comes immediately to mind as the biggest mess). For Flip Flappers, despite the rough ending, it sticks with me as one of my favourites.
52:09 Looked it up on AniDB, episode 8 was the only episode storyboarded and directed by webgen animator Shun Enokido, who also directed and storyboarded the OP for Monster Musume.
Well, that explains a lot. Lol.
I ve not an enought good english level to hear a full podcast but if u make a video or something short i will support a lot, u can!!!
Ah I miss Amelia 😭
