J. S. BACH - Capriccio on the Departure of a Beloved Brother BWV992 (Jörg Demus)
JÖRG DEMUS plays "Capriccio sopra la lontananza del suo fratello dilettissimo" BWV992 by JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH. Whether this piece was about a literal brother, a friend or even J. S. Bach himself, is not known. However, it is certain that this is among the oldest of Bach's keyboard works and was probably written during his time in either Ohrdruf or Lüneburg, when he was in his late teens/early 20s.

ROSALYN TURECK plays "Book 2 of The Well-Tempered Clavier" or the 24 Preludes and Fugues BWV870-893 by JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH. The sequel to the Well-Tempered Clavier comes in the form of a collection simply called "Second Part" ("Zweyther Theil / Zweiter Teil), nowadays nicknamed "Book 2". The set was completed in 1744 and encompasses an even broader range of different styles of the time, somet...

NIKOLAI PETROV plays "Grosses Konzertsolo" by FRANZ LISZT. This piece is better known as an early version of the Concerto Pathetique S.258/2, but works perfectly well as a warm-up to its bigger sister - the Sonata B Minor -not only in scale but also in its concept regarding the experimental one-movement form. F. LISZT - Weihnachtsbaum S.186 (Pietro Spada)
Просмотров 676Год назад
PIETRO SPADA plays "Weihnachtsbaum / Christmas Tree S.186" by FRANZ LISZT. Completed in 1881, this set stands in strong opposition to the usual macabre works of Liszt's final years and instead offers twelve humble, sweet and almost amateurish Christmas pieces. The suite is divided into three sections. The first four pieces are of biblical character, while the second set depicts a more child-lik...
F. LISZT - Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude S.173/3 (Jorge Bolet)
Просмотров 2 тыс.Год назад
JORGE BOLET plays "Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude" from the 1853 cycle "Harmonies Poétiques Et Religieuses S.173" by FRANZ LISZT. The 1850s were a period of revisionism for Liszt when it came to the publication of his compositions. In many ways, he was inspired to "re-compose" a significant amount of his works into more refined (and more pianistic) collections like the first two volumes o...

Is this a Langloz source?
I'm not sure to be honest
The allegro is Beutiful. At first you think uuugh its the represe from the Theme but then.. beautiful and Genius Wellness for the soul 😊
WTF the second pianist is not playing sometimes...
Not sure if I understand correctly, but are you referring to the pauses in the score? Or are you talking about deviations from the score in the recording?
08:09
4:38 - Bach anticipated Chopin. Amazing
I don't like Busoni rearragements. it destroys Bach's character of the work
The prelude/fugues transcriptions are very free-spirited indeed, but you might enjoy the Chorale Preludes more. I recommend the Pietro Spada recording of all 10 of them.
The preludes from Bach's Leipzig period are extremely beautiful. Liszt added some organ grandiosity to this arrangement and it works really well.
Couldn't agree more! 🤝
Bach with Russian soul
This interpretation is excellent
Ppl don't realize Glen Gould said that Rosalyn Turek was his inspiration and "go to" reference for how to approach Bach. W/o Turek it can be said we don't get Gould.
Einst war nichts.
Liszt un grand compositeur, Clidat une grande pianiste
The ancient piano pedagogue named Bernstein (he hasn’t made me remember his given name) said that, “Gould [played as though he] had ice water in his veins.” Which proved that Bernstein had rocks in his head….a LOT of them. This performance is so warm and moving, really gorgeous.
Excellent steely fingers: just right for this piece!
Such a luminous performance

❤
A noble effort by Liszt to drag the great Johann Sebastian Bach from the organ loft into the salon.. Bach would not comprehend.. As an organist, nor do I.
With all respect, comparing yourself to Bach is infinitely more disrespectful than transcribing pieces. I know you don’t mean it that way but you have to at least see how Liszt was definitely not trying to „drag“ Bach „into the salon“.
@@pianobern69 I am forever confused by organ purists upset by Bach transcriptions. Obviously Bach was not fussy about transcribing works *to* organ from eg concerto. It is for this reason that contemporary listeners know the name of Vivaldi much less his incredible music. Bach's compositions were written for an instrument that few have the opportunity to hear much less play, and these transcripts bring them to a far wider audience and yes offer an opportunity for creative elaboration and experimentation. Which again, Bach was no stranger to given his free borrowing of themes throughout his career.
Keine Show ,große Musik!!!
Late Liszt is so underrated, the atmosphere he creates is so unique🤩🤩
A fascinating alternative to other versions which emphasize the percussive aspect almost exclusively. Gilels adds plenty of percussiveness as the piece goes on but first he brings out its lyricism in a way I haven't heard before.
Reminds me of Beethoven somehow
It does sound like a Beethoven melody for sure. The theme has a late classical style charm to it
For me the tempo is too fast.
I personally play it slower as well, but Bach often uses G major for fast and virtuosic pieces, so there's that
Thank you for this recording! Is de profundis theme the E-flat major low chords - same (similar) as in the piano sonata?
You‘re welcome! I assume you mean the Grandioso theme from the B Minor Sonata? The themes are not related but I can see the similarities :)
Where's my Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki gang? I've got this playing in one window, and a Shinjuku station walking tour in another, drinking a cup of black coffee. Don't let the bad elves get you.
Grand voyage vers la nuit des temps éternelles...dans notre intériorité contemplative
Excellent, my favorite complete set! Farnadi is little-known but a fabulous pianist especially in Hungarian music
Totally agree!!
Someone tell me, please, where I can get this piano transcription. I'm an organist and play this on the organ but I want to play it on the piano.
You can get it on IMSLP if you look up 6 Preludes and Fugues by Bach on the Liszt as Arranger section I believe
Boring
No
Nice playing but way way too slow in my opinion especially after the Largo section
Busoni could have just left this to organ. I just listened to the prelude played by Albert Schweitzer and to the whole thing played _(better)_ by Marie-Claire Alain, and I think the work suits the organ much better.
Marie-Claire Alain‘s interpretation is wonderful and so is Schweitzer of course. I also recommend Huford, Preston, Richter and Chapuis
@@pianobern69 ... and Daniel Chorzempa !
_Program music_ by Bach ? How delightful ! the Adagissimo is already divine, almost anticipates Brahms in some moments and it is well played. What year was that ? And BTW, this work is an example of the peculiar organization of the _"Bachwerkeverzeichnis"_ because of how such an early work gets to be BWV 992.
I just listened to a version of BWV 988 by Jörg Demus from the year 1957 on bilibili which is _absolutely exquisite_ ! I would highly recommend the listener to go there and compare. I wonder what happened to Demus in the meantime and what made him think that he could improve on that with this, IMO, rather choppy interpretation. If the channel owner felt inclined to upload that earlier version, I'd be grateful since it doesn't seem to exist on YT.
This is a live recording (performed in Japan if I remember correctly) Demus made that is more faithful to the score compared to his earlier studio recordings. I was planning on uploading the 1957 recording in addition to this one indeed, but I had planned to upload Kempff's Goldberg recording before doing another Demus video. Either video will take some time though, so I can't promise when to expect it. I hope you stay around, maybe you'll enjoy Demus' recording of BWV992 (the most recent upload on this channel)
@@pianobern69 1. Wow, *Kempff's* Goldberg Variations ? *PLEAAASE !* 2. No hurry with the uploading since ... 3. I subbed your channel after our little exchange, looking into what you've got and hence ... 4. I had already put Demus' recording of BWV992 on my playlist, up next as soon as I am through with ... 5. Drop everything now and listen through that sublime version.* Say thank you later.
The last four Hungarian Rhapsodies (Nos. 16-19) date from the end of Liszt's life, and Nos. 16-18 are unusual in that they are relatively short and not based on pre-existing material. Very bare and startling, like so much of Liszt's "late" music. And Farnadi plays them to perfection!
Bach wonderful piece
As always ❤️
As always with Bolet, a very deep and well understood interpretation. Bolet never tries to impress, yet his control is amazing and he gives us one of the best recordings of this masterpiece, next (in my opinion) to Arrau and Duchable.
Kocsis did it perfect!

Bach ❤😢
this is a genuine example of how bach messes with our heads, just when you get there's going to something happen and the minor gonna lead picardy third, chromatic descent notes just blows the happy mood out🤯
Thank you indefinitely for making this recording accessible! So far I had Gould and Serkin on my hitlist; now there is a very valuable addition!
Yes! Finally one can hear that the keyboard instrument has leading melodic lines in this composition! After listening to various versions with harpsichord I am really delighted (and I think Bach would too)!
Thanks for posting! I'd venture to say that anyone who enjoys Hindemith's Flute Sonata will like this...lots of similarities.

I really want to have the sheet music where can i find it
You can find it on IMSLP. Either you look for d‘Alberts transcriptions or under the arrangement section of the Bach BWV538 page. As far as I know, the sheet music can no longer be bought because it never received a re-print
No awful stresses on the last notes in each group.Calmness and serenity rules . Angels in Heaven bow down before her .
....or you could just play it on the organ.
You could also just listen to the organ version
