When I lost my brother I suddenly had no interest and was even afraid of trying to do a lot of the things he and I always did together because I knew his absence was going to be suddenly undeniable and real . I still haven't been out on my boat fishing since his passing and although I still play my instruments I still can't play in the barn where we practiced every weekend. I gave the 70 Nova my brother and I bought to my son and I haven't gone to the drag strip since his passing.. Maybe one day I'll be able to do those things again but right now I just can't . I think I understand exactly what Alex is feeling. There's a hole in his life. ,,,ß.....ß2sßß

Spot on about Pop. Although it has gotten quite the cult following now. Most U2 fans know they almost broke up when they were beating their heads against the wall in Hansa Studios trying to figure out the direction for Achtung Baby. But what most don’t know(including me until just a couple years ago) was the same thing happened in the lead up to ATYLB release. If that album didn’t work as well as it did, they were going to go their separate ways.

I'm so up on things. Ha! Thank RUclips for populating this video for me else I would never have known about it. Thanks Eric for having Greg and Chris on together! #PowerDuo These guys know their sh*t when it comes to =VH=. I am excited for Al's book to come out. It just went on pre-sale about 3 days ago (we are still in the middle of August so have a bit to go yet). Just want to say that I hope Alex is doing well and is enjoying his life as best as possible, although, I'm sure not a day goes by where he doesn't think of brother. They did announce that Alex will be reading the audio book and I think it said he might do a book tour? That would be amazing! The deluxe autographed copies aren't for sale yet either, not that I'll be able to afford one. I presume it's because they need to get copies to Al to actually sign. I wonder how many he will sign? Also, we know no that he auctioned off all of his drums about a month ago so there's that. I do wonder why Janie is under an NDA? I can't think of a reason at this point for her to have to remain silent. Kind of strange but I'm sure the VH camp has it's reasons. Anyway, thanks guys for the interview and you expertise on the Mighty Van Halen! Long Live Kind Edward! ❤🖤🤍🎸👑

I heard the old doorways at Shangri-La (Rubin’s studio) are a little more narrow. You know, old California construction… and Bono’s head couldn’t fit through the doorway so they had to stop working together. PS- remember that time (well there’s def more than one time but that’s another story) Bono said something ultra-fucking stupid, like he was going to take Ian Curtis’ place in the music pantheon? Bono wishes (and prays, apparently he’s good at that) that he had an eighth of Ian Curtis’ artistic ability. Yawn. PPS- check out my bands. blackpyramids at band camp roomofwater at band camp

I don't have NLOTH as a favourite U2 album, but it is much underrated and a much better album than one has any right to expect nearly 30 years into their recording career. And Cedars of Lebanon is a hidden gem. Wonderful atmosphere and Bono singing a song that has him adopting a persona other than Bono

I remember being in the =W= Fan Club back in around 95 or 96 (somewhere in that era) and getting a Weezine in the mail. I was so stoked because it came with a free mini disc from a band called ‘Ridel High’. It was the first time I heard the song Wynona Ryder. I was instantly blown away! A short time later, I went to The CD Warehouse and they special ordered me the ‘Emotional Rollercoaster’ album. I wore that CD out let me tell you. I think I’m single handedly responsible for bringing Ridel High’s music into Arkansas! I had just about every kid at my high school hooked on that band! Such a wonderful memory to have!!!

So, what I'm interpreting Chris Gill saying towards the end is that Dave derailed the tribute because he somehow wanted certain things to make the focus more on him. On the face, it sounds like Dave's ego and his lifelong competition with Ed wouldn't allow him to let the whole tribute be about Ed, which is presumably what Wolf and Al wanted. I am a big Dave defender and have always felt like the band ended when they split up in '85 (I'm not knocking what the VH brothers and Mike did with Hagar; I just think it's a completely different band). That said, it would be great to know exactly what Dave was apparently demanding. A lot of the things he's said in the time since Ed died have come off as very indelicate (all the stuff about his creative input to the music, including Ed's solos, Ed's guitar design, etc.). I think this was his angry response to all of the focus on Ed's greatness that flooded in after his passing. I think it killed Dave that, in his opinion, all that attention directed towards Ed somehow meant that Ed was the sole star of the whole Van Halen story, and that everybody else in the VH universe were just side characters. So, that was Dave reminding everybody that he was a big part of things as well. I get his perspective to a point, but for the most part, as he often does, he's made himself look bitter and (I hate to say it) pathetic because of the way he decides to make his point. For instance, unlike many people, I think Dave was very justified to be angry with Wolf before he made those videos to clap back at him earlier this year; but to most, he made himself look like the jerk because of the way he did it (though it was somewhat entertaining). Dave, particularly as the years have gone by, has become his own worst enemy.

I was 8 years old when Achtung Baby came out. I remember listening to Mysterious Ways, One and Even Better than the Real Thing in the backseat of my parents car and watching the videos on MTV. My brain couldn't believe the feelings those songs gave me. I nagged my mom for about a week straight until she bought the cassette for me. That album was more than just the music for me it was like the Bible. Taught me about love, life, loss and each of those songs have memories attached that I'll never forget. A couple of years later my sister got tickets for us to see the Popmart Tour. That was a wrap for me. 50+ thousand people in Giants Stadium, that feel the same way as me, singing every word of every song made me realize how important music and the arts are.

Thank you Gentlemen for this interesting conversation. As a lifelong Moby Grape obsessive, I have found their story to be so frustrating and tragic because of the lost music these five talented men could have made together. Their story is truly a cautionary tale of how the music business can destroy it's own. Skip had the magic, I put him together with Sid Barrett on similar level as two damaged musical visionaries. So sad when we lose a legend in the making like that. I think it was just poor decision making - showing off and messing around while under the influence - it happens all the time to everyday people at picnics, right. We joke about it when people drink - "famous last words - watch this!" It sucks. So many brilliant artists lose their lives young, and I think it's just that tortured soul ideal (that does hold some truth) that just leads to thrill seeking and depression and substance abuse - the need to "feel alive" every moment and when it's not there, they either need to push a limit or take something to up the excitement or drown the sorrow. I am happy we see less of this sort of thing now and am really impressed by the younger generation of rockers that take care of themselves and look after one another. I don't think you will ever eliminate it - there will always be shooting stars - but it does raise my spirits seeing the way positivity has spread through the world of metal and rock. And then there's Dave Mustaine! Nah! Just messing! 🤣🤣🤣
