Could I use regular apple barrel acrylic paint with the no tack?
Guy… this literally says foam latex prosthetic with blood tubing in the video description. I’m a special effects artist and CLEARLY this is fake.
Will ya‘ll stop saying this is real? It fake.
While I like PAX paint, I hate the gloss it leaves behind. Works though, especially if you're going for a glossy look.
@@altermann1ify yes, it does finish a little glossy. And unless you’re using the No-Tack, a little tacky. Nowadays I always seal all of my masks with V-Matte or V-Gloss from Frend’s. Depending on the finish that I want.
Great breakdown of how to use Ultracal. How many bags does it take to make a mask that size?
Great video! Its been super hepful. Currently making my first ultracal mold. Ive read that these molds must be baked in the oven to eliminate excess water before doing a latex dwel. I was wondering if its safe to do this in my kitchen oven? or if its absolutely necessary to put in the oven? Could I maybe dry it with a heat gun or some other method? I have not been able to find any info to verify if its safe to do it in the same oven we use for food.
It is NOT necessary to bake it out to do a latex dwell. You can clean it and go right into pouring latex. It’s only necessary to bake the moisture out of the mold if you’re going to be running FOAM latex prosthetics in it.
@@AnatomySPFX Thank you so much for your reply! I really appreciate it! That is great news! Since I will only be using my mold for liquid latex 😎
That looks great!
Great tutorial!!!!
Wow pros-aide no tack adhesive is proper rip off! You must be minted.
I respectfully disagree. I shot this video in 2020 during the pandemic when all work was shut down. At the time I had used No-Tack for years with excellent results. In the time since I’ve shot this video, I’ve switched primarily to Createx’s Flex Adhesion Promoter- also with excellent results. And usually seal with V-Matte or V-Gloss from Frend’s. Remember, there’s more than one way to skin a cat. Good luck on your own journey.
How long would you advise using the food dehydrator for?
could i use liquid latex instead of pros-aide?
I’d do a small patch test on a piece of scrap latex first. I’ve never tried it personally. I do occasionally use Monster Makers RD407 Latex Paint Bases. But I don’t know what their pigments are.
@@AnatomySPFX it worked! Lol. I mixed liquid latex with acrylics. But now i need to seal the mask. What would you recommend?
Congratulations! I’ve been using exclusively V-Matte and V-Gloss from Frend’s. It’s a rubber cement sealer. But prior to that I was using Liquitex Varnish with good success. It comes in Matte, Satin and Gloss.
the best video about the subject I ve seen so far. Clear and concise instructions with all relevant information. Kudos !!!
Thank you so much!!! I had fully intended to make a second video for doing encapsulated silicone prosthetics. But my “day job” of making props for the Disney and Universal parks keeps me very very busy.
@@AnatomySPFX there are worse reasons not to. 😎
Killer paint job 🤘🏽😎🤘🏽
Where can I purchase the moulds?
Great video! I wish you had listed the different paints and elements you used with links in your description. That would have made this perfect! Thank you!
Do you really need the prosaide no tack or can you just use the acrylic paint by itself
You need something with a flexible adhesion like Pros Aide. Acrylic paint on its own won’t bond to the latex permanently. It will crack and rub off.
@@AnatomySPFX could i use allens turbo tacky glue as a substitute?
Probably not. That looks like it’s akin to Elmer’s all purpose glue. You need something with a flexible adhesion that’s going to bite onto the rubber. Back in the day we used to use rubber cement+rubber cement thinner+oils. But that’s super toxic as all hell when you spray it.
Working with a very limited budget, is plasti dip clear spray good for sealing and preventing cracking?
I’ve honestly never tried. I’m sorry I can’t say yay or nay. A small test would be advisable. Try spraying it on a scrap piece of latex before spraying a whole mask.
Yes Plasti dip is fine.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🦇
Hello, what’s best way to preserve a latex mask, so it wont crack after so many years? Thanks and love your work!
Hey there! Just used to seal my masks with Liquitex mediums and that worked very well. But I have recently switched to V-Matte and V-Gloss from Frend’s and I will never use anything else! It’s a very very flexible rubber cement sealer. I’m spray mine on with an airbrush. If you do that then PLEASE use a respirator and good ventilation. frendsbeauty.com/special-fx/fx-on-set/v-matte-rubber-cement-sealer.html
@@AnatomySPFXThanks a lot 🙏🏼
Awesome video... I'm confused on th baby powder? Is that helping smooth... I have had trouble getting my clay super smooth....
I use baby powder (talc) and a chip brush to help soften the details in a sculpture and make them feel more organic. This is traditionally done on oil based clays like Chavant or Monster Clay. But you can do it with WED clay if you let the sculpture dry out just a bit so it has a slightly leathery surface. Then you can buff it with talc and a clean chip brush to soften some of your detail texture.
I have 2 latex mask and I wanted to cut the ears off one and put them on a other Is that possible to do ...and how would I go about doing that to make The ears stay ?
Yes! It is possible nowadays with some products from Motion Picture FX Company. They make a line of “Monster DNA” products to glue and patch latex masks. I’m including the link to the product page. You can use their contact adhesive to glue mask rubber pieces together and their patch products to blend them together. motionpicturefx.com/search?q=monster+patch&type=product
@AnatomySPFX wow thanks alot!!
With Pros-Aide No tack can I use any acrylic paint for my latex mask? Or do I have to use a special paint?
You can absolutely use Original Pros Aide. It will just dry tacky and you’ll need to powder it. As far as painting with latex, I’d do a small patch test first. Mix your latex and acrylic paint 50/50 and paint a small patch or a scrap piece of latex. Let it dry and stretch it and pull it and test the adhesion and flexibility.
Can I use original pro-aide? Or latex? If the “non tack” is to expensive for me?
Thanks for the video! It's super informative.
amazing! how long did this take?
Thank you! That’s about a six hour sculpture.
This is excellent! Looking forward to the next one.

How did you keep the silicone from bonding when doing the two piece mold? Wax or a spray release? And how did you fuse the epoxy core together? You video was the only one I saw of how I wanted to do it. Thanks
When I make a 2-part brush-up silicone mold, I use Mann Ease Release 200 spray to separate the two sides of the silicone mold. When I fuse the 2 halves of the fiberglass core together I make a “putty” mixture of resin thickened with Cabosil and some chopped fibers. I put this on the flange of the silicone on both halves and then bolt the mold together. This putty fused the two halves of the fiberglass core together.
I know I'm many years late on that one, but could this be done with a mold made of epoxy gel and fiberlass too? Using mann ease release on the mold before starting the process? Since I want a durable mold that I'll be able to cast many copies of
Maybe can I call 911 for reporting this?

As the AnatomySPFX, I seriously think that all the special makeup effects guys should make an over hundreds to thousands to of air-bladders special effects, to make billions of new body bulging horror transformation movies like the ones what DICK SMITH did in the (1980) movie 'ALTERED STATES.'
I'm am soooo in love with the effects!!!!!
Thanks, Dj. I used a few different effects. I used some ICE FX gel and crystals for certain areas. For the finer frost I mixed up some powdered laundry detergent with clear silicone and spatulated it on
awesome!!! Now make the explode! ;)~
Thanks so much! The pumping is achieved with small custom-made balloons called "bladders" that fit beneath the prosthetics and get inflated with big syringes
awsome!! how did you do the pumping thing?
