I'm afraid I've moved away but plenty of others definitely still go. It has a habit of beating up kit and boats and I don't know if any club events would be held there but BKC, MUCK and QUB are some of the local clubs who might be able to put you in touch with the right folks. Summer evenings particularly Tues and Weds were quite busy if I remember rightly and you just wanted to go down for yourself and see what the craic is. It was horrible and wet lad, we shan't be doing that again.

Sorry, only just caught this message. Pretty sure it was the first time out in the Alps for all of us so I can only speak for my experience. We went with a coach for most of our days out, which I think it was organised through #gene17kayaking, or at least they put us in touch with one of the local guides who helped tremendously. Out guide was dead-on and was well worthwhile. Most groups, even those based in the UK, seem to at least know someone who acts as a guide which would be a good place to start. We stayed over at the campsite basically a minute from this slalom course, 'camping les ecrins', I believe. Nice showers and a good atmosphere with the number of other kayakers around and about.

At the right level I'd rate it above Shaw's or any other weirs for a bit of play.

Ha, it was my attempt to improve my standard lazy 'video of kayaking' to a kayaking video. It didn't work but they're still the best bit by far.
