Bat'leth vs Khopesh (and buckler?!)

It has to be said my opponent knows he's at a disadvantage in this matchup, and just wants the practice at fighting the bat'leth.

This one's a bit longer, so enjoy some music to make it a little more engaging!

Zweihander vs Naginata Order of the Blade
When the weapon is unreasonable by design, it demands incredible skill of the user, and you make it look so good!
Ok that's cool. However. Archers.
Obviously have no honour! A true warrior meets the foe eye to eye! That said, you can make the same comment about any melee weapon throughout history. If it helps, imagine everyone in full plate instead of modern sports gear. ;)
"fantasy weapons dont work irl, in every case of something working it was used" the most mall ninja weapon i have ever seen:
Kahless would be proud.
I knew it! The batleth is an amazing wrappn. Shadiversity was trying to trash it as a sword. Its not a sword and needs to be treated as such. Great video and well done.
Thanks very much! You're absolutely right it doesn't handle like a sword at all, most of the time. Given that Shad's a rape-apologist with no relevant qualifications and extremely bad takes, I ignore him completely 😅
@@rossgilbert7819 I don't watch Shad religiously, so I am unaware of this "rape apologist" comment. Can you point me to more info?
@@Balandrus the guy wrote a novel where the 'hero' (a war criminal) is put on trial, and women that he raped line up to thank him for providing them with children. And that's only one of the deeply misogynistic events that occur. It's pretty f'd up. You can find plenty of reviews of it if you give it a quick google.
@@rossgilbert7819 oh, I thought it was something serious. Just rabid leftist nonsense. Never mind. Now I really do need to check out his book series! Thanks for the recommendation!
@@Balandruscome back when you've read it
the emperor protects. 🙂
Very Cool! Would you say there are any fencing styles or Hema skills that are transferable to the bat'leth? Without ever fencing with a bat'leth i would assume Hand and a half sword with massive focus on halfswording. Could you please give your opinion?
It mostly depends on how you're holding it at the time. One of the most interesting things about the bat'leth is the ability to change grips mid-pass to do different things. If you put both hands on an end grip, it plays quite like a greatsword - big looping cuts and thrusts. On the other hand if you use a wide grip, it plays much more like a quarterstaff or polearm - with the added advantage that you can strike equally well with both ends. This makes it significantly different to halfswording because you have two points to threaten with, and both your hands are equally well protected. All the important fencing skills - distance management, timing, protection from the afterblow etc. still apply.
@@rossgilbert7819 Thank you very much

Shockingly effective.
To reseat the axe head it is much easier to tap the butt of the handle on the ground rather than tapping the axe head itself on the ground.
beautiful moves! that step to force a reaction near the end was chef's kiss
Much more convincing than other channels. Now add close quarters like hallways or low ceilings
I would absolutely love to spend a day sparring on the Enterprise or DS9 sets, but sadly I don't have a facility to hand where I'd be happy knocking holes in the walls or taking out light fixtures! Thanks for the comment :)
Battle of Stamford Bridge be like:
Nice to watch a Bat'leth user who knows what he's doing for a change.😅 MajQa, Suvwl ! (Well done , Warrior)
Thanks very much! I don't get to post as many videos as I'd like due to life, but a few other members of my club have their bat'leths in the post soon, so tune back in later if you'd like to see more.
it does not get more autistic than this
Dude fighting trident in the beginning: where'd you get your breastplate?
My next EDC a Bat'leth 😁
i actually am a fan of the trident its underated
Strong agree! I was expecting Trident and Net to be a bit of a meme, but have actually been able to make it work very well, I'll get some more vids of sparring with them at some point.
@@rossgilbert7819 nice i definitly look foward to that.
Its quite funny to me that (obv its a tv show they didnt train people with Bat'leths) despite "culture" of klingons, the Bat'leth seems to work best semi-defensively
I've been chatting a bit with a couple folks in the community that bat'leth would be a good harnishfechten weapon.
I've seen some bat'leth sparring before, but this is the first time I've seen someone use one logically and effectively. This video has changed my whole perspective on bat'leth combat.
Thanks! There's another mixed-weapon sparring vid going up now. Life's a bit busy, so can't upload as often as I'd like.
@@rossgilbert7819 The bat'leth seems like it would actually be an effective weapon, just really annoying to wear or transport.
I really wanna play with a bat'leth, it can function as a longsword, a bladed polearm and gives halfsword options too. The worst is probably that it offers too much while being restrictive.
Qapla!
Is it just me or would it benefit from one of the side grips being perpendicular?
the bind on the ax was cool to see. Works almost like a large bladed shield lol.
0:49 the poor guy in HF gear almost got got. 💀
Que son? todos mancos? Que les pasa?
Love you use of the Bat'leth, where did you get the Bat'leth from?
A business in Thailand called Freell Armouries. You can find them on Facebook and I think they have a website now too. They do all of our custom synthetic weapons - I've gotten a Trident, 2-handed Khopesh and more from them, and never been disappointed.
@@rossgilbert7819thanks for the great info Ross, I’ll definitely check them out. I liked your use of the Bat’leth as a charging jamming weapon, really effective.
This is the purpose of HEMA.

Very nice man! Nice to see other people sparring with bat'leths! 😎
