The biggest issue with the weapons is that half of them wouldn’t even function after you’re through with them. You can’t chamber a Mosin rifle in 12.7x108mm, the receiver would catastrophically fail or the barrel would burst (or both at once). You can’t chamber a Mauser Broomhandle in .50 Pistol (the cartridge didn’t even exist in ‘45, and the gun probably would explode on the first round anyway). You certainly can’t just chop off the barrel of the MG42 if you want it to remain effective. You can’t put a drum on an M1 because it’s top-fed, the mechanics wouldn’t work-there’s a reason it took more than a decade to make the M14. Vanguard’s devs had no idea how firearms actually function, and it shows.

The big problem I've had with Duke in this game was his writing. Duke in his 3D characterization used to be popular not because all gamers are immature sexist pigs, contrary to what media retroactively tried to push after DNF came out. In fact, the main game had the tone that could be compared to Army of Darkness or They Live. The whole invasion was more or less serious, but Duke didn't take it serously because he's such an absolute unit that he already saved the world twice. In fact, Duke was basically the Gigachad of the 90s. He was strong, resilient, self-aware and genuinely confident. In DNF he acts like an insecure middle aged divorced dad who used to be a fratboy during his younger years. And while Duke3D was goofy, he wasn't lame. In my personal opinion, his 1996 portrayal felt like he was a guy who'd lift you up when you're down and would toss in a pep-talk with some genuinely good thoughts while calling you "king", while his 2011 version would just use the same situation to flex and feel better about himself.
Damn this video was good. You've got enough writing skills to nail a point and good enough comedic sence to keep a viewer entertained by the ADHD comedy without turning it into an avalanche of unfunny randomness. Also the idea to not name the game you compare it to was somewhat annoying up until the wham line in the end. Which kind of made me think about the difference between accuracy and authenticity which I would obviosly use from now on to pick up girls. So, keep doing this!

And another thing: NO ACTUAL FACTIONS IN MULTIPLAYER!!!!

I'd argue none of the games did. I mean making some of the most traumatic and bloody conficts in human history into fun passtimes is already disrespectful, no? Also pretty sure they never said that at all.

I really just want this channel to be stuff I'm interested in, I knew after the Vangaurd video though that a lot of people would be expecting something similar, so I wanted to cut that expectation right off the bat. I'm gonna do more video essays like Vanguard, but they'll probably be on less FPS focused topics. I'm here to make videos I enjoy and if some people come across it and find it entertaining then that's good enough for me!

You can play it actually! If you go to Steam and look up Call of Duty Vanguard it should be the first result. It's a little bit of a niche title, but it's pretty bad
