Bushcraft project: bush pipe
Today I craft a bush pipe made from birch wood and a type of tall Reed Grass using only basic tools (carving knife, saw and a drill bit).
Note: I’m using dead materials, for small projects like these, it’s not worth cutting down anything live. The reed grass I’m using are dry old chutes from the previous year (even so I didn’t remove the roots) and the birch tree was already on the ground when I found it, blown over from a storm.
I’m not a smoker, for me bush pipes are more meant for medicine, sometimes the quickest way to absorb the medicine from a plant is to inhale the smoke that said plant produces, so bush pipes are perfect for this use. (For example smoking mullein leaves/flowers hel...

Bushcraft compass
Просмотров 1375 лет назад
We’ve all seen the classic trick of using a metal needle, a leaf and a puddle to make an improvised compass when in a pinch. However, how can you make this compass, if there aren’t any leaves or puddles to be used?
Woodsman’s medicine pouch
Просмотров 2616 лет назад
We take a look inside my medicine bag, a pouch in which useful medicinal plants and items are carried. Medicines are an important aspect of being a woodsman, in case of emergencies or in case of illness in the woods, where medication and medical care are not available. Enjoy! WARNING What I’m showing are wild plants which can be used for medicine, HOWEVER, just because you see them here does no...

Bushcraft shelter

Today, I make a Bushcraft snow shelter that I've dubbed the ''Snow Yurt''. a shelter that sort of combines a quinsy and a yurt. Note: To make this shelter even easier in a survival situation, one could simply lay branches across the snow hole and cover those branches with snow.

How to make feathersticks (bad audio)
Просмотров 1266 лет назад
(Sorry about the bad audio, the mic. Was not having it that day) Learn the simple yet not so easy art of making feather sticks. Feather sticks are important for making a successful fire in the woods in damp conditions. This skills comes in handy when no other sources of tinder can be found (like birch bark or dry lichens)
How to use flint and steel
Просмотров 4346 лет назад
Learn an easy way to achieve the traditional fire lighting method of flint and steel. What makes this version easy is the fact that we are using charcloth and jute twine to accelerate the process. This method is especially good for beginners and people who want to try this traditional method.

I dont smoke but im going to make one, or at least have a go, just for the fun of it. looks great.
You can use birch for pipe making ?
Yes absolutely, however, if you use the pipe very often, it won’t last very long.
@@ignisbushcraft Thank you for replying on a 4 year old video I really enjoyjed your working style I will have to try some birch I have tons of it on my land
I made a couple pipes this weekend, fun project……
is that leaves? your smoking?
It must be disgusting :/
Из берёзы?
Great!
What wood did you use for the Straw part?
What wood is it? If strong even if have coal, can i subject-buy and have ez job making it?
👍👍
great!
👍
That wood wet like a clt yet..
I remember the movie with charles bronson death hunt... he made a pair of these glasses too
My grandpa used to make corn cob pipes and sell them. He smoked from a corn cob pipe he had made that lasted him 20 years. When He died and that corn cob pipe was still usable and in good condition. I kept it and placed in the shadow box we made for him. Making your own kit items gives you a connection with the item. It encourages you to take care of it and not loose/abuse it. Great video! Have a great day.
What was the cause (if any ) of is passing
Thank You 🙏 , from a pipe builder and smoker,great job “A”
👍👍👍
... вообще-то из берёзы трубки делать не рекомендую,- при курении выделяется дёготь!!!
I have the same knife
Is it the Mora 106 or the 120 I've trying to figure it out
@@dragonmaster6251 when i wrote this comment i thought it was a home made knife handle with, let's say, a brisa blade. Like mine :)
Try putting mint leaf in it and burn it
Wow is beautiful 😍
Incredible pipe. i'm brazilian and i really appreciate your work. What tools are used
Denis Mandu I’m glad you like my work. For the tools, I used: -Morakniv carving blade (with a homemade handle) -a broken drill bit, though an awl is what I usually use -Bacho Laplander saw (in orange colour) Hope this answers your question, cheers.
Very nice! U are skilled at carving. So precise
very top video. I'm here to add. like guaranteed and registration done. I await you on my channel. hug here from Brazil.
Is that a metal drill bit?
Yeah
Damn, this is instant pipe lol i like it
super video and kuksa, please see my products on instagram, thank. (bushcraft relax black sun ) Peter
super video and handmade pipe...thank you. Peter
My only critique would be the thickness of the bowl. If you plan on using it often the bowl will eventually break down due to being charred. Still very impressive work! Cheers!
Corn cob pipes breakdown too and I just make another one since the components are free, I actually just enjoy making the item.
@@CiaofCleburne this is a great answer ;)
Birch is so nice to carve, I used oak. rip. 😂
Nice pipe. Now for the tobacco I would use mullein
And Bearberry
How did you find that hollow stick and is it common in Virginia
Luca Paulussen The plant is a type of tall reed grass, they grow readily in wetlands and marshes. As I live in Canada, I’m not sure how common this type of reed is in Virginia, but it’s almost guaranteed you can find a type of reed if you look along creeks, rivers and marshes.
Good Job my friend 🤜🔥🤛
So what are some things I might be able to use for the stem besides the reed
No I’m not good 10 years ago Depends on where you are and the resources you have. There are tons of plants that have hollow stems, like bamboo, river cane etc. You can also use pithy woods/plants, like alder and Mullen and just burn/scrape out the pith with a straightened out wire. You could also split a small stick and just cut grooves in the centre, put the halves back together with cordage and then carve it down into a stem. Thanks for watching!
Ignis Bushcraft thank you found myself doing the last one since none of the other things grow naturally where I live
Nice video. How did you make the handle for the drill bit? Just glue it in there?
Bruce Coulda Thanks for watching, I drilled the hole in the handle with a smaller bit while the wood was still green and used abit of crazy glue just to keep things in place while it dried and the wood shrunk onto the bit. So the bit is held in place mostly by pressure and friction, makes things easier if I ever have to replace the handle.
just curious. why did you wrap the base of the stem? looks or was there a function? Thanks for the vid btw! enjoyed it!
Austin McKenzie Wrapped the stem mostly for the aesthetic, it breaks the monotone look abit. It can also sometimes help with keeping the stem in place if you bore a whole too big for the stem to fit properly in the pipe bowl.
@@ignisbushcraft i had exactly that same question. thanks, excellent video
Smoke some mulien
Seven Sorrows I wish I could but doesn’t grow naturally where I live
Nice! What kind of tobacco you smoking. I like English blends myself
ducttapetech in this case I was smoking some dried “winterized” Labrador Tea leaves. When the leaves start to die and they are browned up they get this unique molasses like flavour (almost like rum twist tobacco) Labrador tea leaves have a similar flavour to tobacco except they make a more “raspy” smoke.
Cool!
Welcome back bromigo! Love the intro. lots of great info man and nice vid! Keep up the good work. Hope to see some more vids! Cheers!
Great video Sir. Does the material you rub the needle on matter....wool, cotton etc ?
Steven Robertson as far as I know it doesn’t matter, as long as a static charge can be created, it will become magnetized.
@@ignisbushcraft Thanks for the reply .
Great video and excellent topic bud Atvb
Really cool video, now I feel bad for having paracetamol and aspirin in my kit🤔 very impressed.
Although wild plants can make great medicines, it’s important to remember that they aren’t always available and even when they are, they need to be prepared and produced and they are seldom fast acting. So carrying paracetamol, ibuprofen or other medication like aspirin is a good idea as a last resort or if you need something fast acting. :)
Nice feather sticks! Heads up, they work great with flint and steel.
Nice work! Flint and steel is my favorite fire lighting method.
Nice tips. Love the last one!
Nice video 👍🏻👍🏻
useful hacks there JC... keep up the good work billy joe
Just found your channel. Nice tips and video 👍🏻👍🏻
Great hacks bud
thank you for a vid bro
