Feels like I'm spoiling the illusion, but the ball doesn't really move - next time you go, have a look at the cup the ball 'sits' in when the rocking arm delivers the ball to the end...

⁠​⁠​⁠@@zx85Ah, I think I see it now just from the video! The “ball” is just a gold-painted half-sphere, attached to an axle and a motor hidden inside the cup. When the loader at the far end appears to release a ball, all it really does is trigger that motor, which turns 180 degrees and reveals the half-sphere, making it look like there’s a ball in the cup. When it gets to the clock side and the arm comes down over the cup, the motor turns 180 degrees in the opposite direction, hiding the half-sphere and making the ball look like it was actually picked up by the arm. The only place where there’s actually a real ball is the oscillating stairs on the left side of the clock. The ball that rolls down those is 100% real, and is brought back to the top via a hidden lift inside the clock casing, where it waits for its cue at the top of the next hour. Don’t worry about spoiling the illusion, by the way: I love knowing how things work, and clocks like this are _always_ impressive in that department! And as for the other question I’m sure you’re asking, yes, I just figured all of that out on my own without ever being there in person. I’m very good at it-although without taking the clock apart, I can’t verify if what I’ve said above is true. But it seems like the simplest and most obvious way of doing it, so I went with that!

@@zargonthemagnificent330 my father built this clock, his name is in the red wheel Andrew Beasant he also built the one in Telford and the one in Cheltenham - he died suddenly in 2011 but his legacy lives on and the children still love the bubbles. If you don’t like it please walk on by.

The one in telford it wasted there. No one looks after it and its usually turned off

I used to have one of them when I was a child... I was devastated when it broke !
