Solo Tuning
Stan are you still with us. You're a living treasure, a gem of days gone by. I really appreciate everything you do. -- Aidan
Sigma guitars was started by Martin and up until around 2006/7 when they sold the company Sigma guitars were Martins...
I have this model too. I think I paid less than £20 at a charity shop. I prefer it to my solid-topped Ibanez. It has no bothersome resonances, and has the right sound for Flamenco, especially with the right strings, IMO.
Hi - i own this Banjo - my Dad bought it from you, so i am led to believe... still plays well but the tuners have been replaced. I do have the originals though... Great sound.
Dale Evens??? I bought a Yasuma Tiple a couple of months ago and love it. GREAT song!!!
Loved hearing this Stan ❤
This is contrabass guitar tuning which is great for playing in guitar orchestras.
Gorgeous sound, indeed. What is the name of the piece you play at the end, please? Thanks
Mine says it was made in Rumania
Aloha, qre you using a reverb pedal? Or a reverb in the amplifier?
Thank you for posting this video! May I repost your channel to the platform named Gan Jing World which is full of clean and valuable videos? I will keep your videos as is for sure. Thank you!
Bravo! Love ur playing. Thank you for sharing.
Wonderful sounding vintage Martin played by the great Stan gee. What a perfect combination.Danny x
I have one of these in my hands right now. Absolutely not Spanish. made. Made in Romania. It is very much a standard sized classical instrument: 650mm scale length, 52mm nut, 1000 mm overall length (Slightly more because of the elongated headstock) and a body depth of 95-97 mm. Back in the late 70s - early 80s they were the best value cheap guitar on the market; about £20 if I recall correctly. I got many of them for my beginner students. They did indeed have a solid top, but Cedar not spruce and usually with a very nice grain. The ribs look like sycamore but the back is a generic ply. The soundboards were ladder braced rather than fan braced, as you will find if you feel inside. They sound great still - unbeaten in their price bracket. Perfect guitar for the beach.
I agree that "walk right in" was the first time a twelve string was hear in the modern day charts but Huddie Leadbetter used one on lots of his recording from 1936 to 1948
I think most 12 st. enthusiasts will be aware of Huddie's unique style and massive body of work on a 12 string guitar? I know I was! My point was that most people in England had probably never heard one until Eric Darlings playing on "walk right in". In fact !2 strings were so rare in the States by then that Eric had to get a couple made by Gibson before he undertook his "rooftop Singers" project! I know that when Ivor Mairant advertised a batch of "Harmony 'Stella' 12 string guitars in the Melody Maker, I scrambled to phone in my order and I was dead lucky to bag the last one of twelve 12 strings in the U.K. Those were the days but unfortunately its popularity bloomed and faded, once again. I still have three playable 12 strings and the old Stella waiting for a restoration that may never happen?
Nice banjo I've got a Barnes & Mullins 6 string banjo the only draw back with it is you can only use loop end banjo strings which are not easy to find as. 6 string sets
Hi Steve. I might have a spare tailpiece if you would like me to go through my spare parts? Harmony habitually put 6-string tailpieces on tenors &/or 5-string banjos. I guess they bought a job lot! Failing that, there is a knack of cutting the ball out of guitar strings which leaves them as loop end strings. Incidentally, the Framus is long gone, which leaves me with my priceless Vega 'Electric' (hail Johnnie St.Cyr) and a bitsa Harmony for muckin about. My phone number should be on the video somewhere. Chordially Stan Gee
@@FancyStanGee I have considered carefully cutting off the ball ends of a set of light guage electric guitar strings and using them any many thanks and I love your "walk right in " at the end of your video
@@stephenhunt572 Use sharp nippers and wear gloves! Best of luck. Stan.
Just got a regular 16 at the pawnshop. Barely played. Bought what appears to be a Deluxe 30 pot a few minutes ago from eBay.
That's music ooo just brilliant thanks
I stuffed my Korala polycarbonate concert uke with teddy innards foam, from a craft and sewing shop. I was mostly aiming to make it quieter, so the neighbours don't hear it. I didn't really succeed in that - it's not a quiet as I'd hoped, but it does change the tone quite a bit.
What an amazing voice 👋
Thanks so much for telling us about the 10-7/8 head size and med-to-high crown! I've been scouring the internet looking for that information after I tried and failed to fit an 11-inch replacement. Great video!
Thanks for the video and information. Bought a minty one today. Late sixties, original plastic head, barely played. My 11 year old son it the banjo player. I’ll send him this video. Cheers.
Back in the USSR would sound great on this thing because George Harrison was picking away on a Bass VI, & this could be great for unplugged settings.
Nice!
@UCbivQxQj4aLjeCtG9FMy8eg I managed to restring my Fender Classical Guitar w/ Magma Octave Down Tuning Strings:magmastoreusa.com/collections/transpositor/products/copy-of-magma-classical-guitar-strings-normal-tension-special-nylon-silver-plated-copper-gc110-2
Brilliant stan looking forward to tomorrow's first lesson 👍👍
Thanks Junior, I'll check it out. Chordially Stan Gee.
I have one exactly like this!
You know I can find where I can look to tune it
@UCbivQxQj4aLjeCtG9FMy8eg It looks cross between a 12 String Guitar & a Cello. I have a 5 String Cello:ruclips.net/video/AbXROs6MWeo/видео.html
You still alive Stan? We miss your uploads Brother. Philadelphia
Soon as I get familiar with my new video camera ! I have a couple banjos I need to sell so it shouldn't be too long, and I didn't realise you missed me?
Hi Stan, Tom cutler here, could you email me on tm12cutler@hotmail.co.uk Or call me 07963562505, regarding the gibson back, thanks!
I've got one, I assumed it was pretty cheap but good to know for sure! I paid about a fiver for it, plus or minus a new nut and strings. They're made in Spain as well, very authentic.
Stan Gee The added Pickup really works & all Bajo Sextos should have a Pickup so that you can play through an amp.
Nice dulcimer. Thank you
I just bought one of the older models with no resonator on eBay. Excitedly waiting on it to arrive.
Great video!
Thanks Pinetop, I have checked out one of your videos too (a Harmony Stella was one of my early workhorses too, but I have put it to rest in my attic at least for awhile) will check out your other videos when my Christmas rush dies down, but you can ring me anytime you feel like shooting the breeze? @@FancyStanGee thank you Stan! I'll research international rates first, see how much it'll cost to call you!
I’m really enjoying your old videos Stan. Remember when you used to record my lessons on cassette? Good times!
Brilliant Stan! A great story behind the demonstration!
A fascinating video Stan. If you come across a left handed one, let me know. Cheers!
I can still play Wildwood Flower that you taught me 30 years ago! I will play Wildwood on my J45 for you soon.
Thanks Michael, I look forward to hearing you and the J45! Chordially Stan.
I always knew I was a lefty Stan. Thanks for all your posts, which I really enjoy.
I could use it for Bottesini
Had mine around 20 years now, paid something like £120.needs new head gear as the cogs are a little worn and I put a pickup under the bridge around 15 years ago.Apart from the occasional restring and cleanup it's been a good workhorse which has never let me down. It'll be in my coffin when I go.....
@UCbivQxQj4aLjeCtG9FMy8eg This instrument really sings. The Bass VI is more or less an Electric Bajo Sexto.
@UCbivQxQj4aLjeCtG9FMy8eg Utilizing all 6 Pairs of Strings on a Bajo Sexto gets easier:ruclips.net/video/Nh1QrJH78s4/видео.html
@UCbivQxQj4aLjeCtG9FMy8eg The thing with the Octave Lower Low E String on a Bajo Sexto, as non ear piercing as it sounds in order to get a good sound the body would need to be bigger.
I know this is a two year old video but I found it because I was looking for more information about the model and I just wanted to say I really enjoyed it. I have my dad's guitar and it's one of these and I knew nothing about it, but now I can tell him the top is solid spruce! Just doing a bridge repair but really looking forward to playing it having heard yours 👍
Glad its been some help to you and hope you are getting some use out of your Dad's old guitar. Your message is the kind that makes me keep on doing it! ChordiallY Stan
@@FancyStanGee Hi Stan, I’ve just picked up one of these, for £10. It’s in need of a bit of TLC, but where I’m confused, there seems to be people selling them for £30-60 and then there is one that seems to have been sold for £1800? From what I can work out from the internet, Rose Morris are a shop in London, and this model would have been comissioned for them to sell in the 1960/70’s? The one I have says model 3057, which again many online seem to say, but I’m just interested to know a bit more really if you have any more information? Many thanks and keep on strumming! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks so much for that stan, you got me thinking about getting a uke cheers mate, Wayne
