It's funny - this record was considered a novelty song at the time - and since! It didn't help that Gil Roman sounded so young - it gave the song a lighthearted-and-not-serious tone. But really, it's a quite poignant song about love, especially when you hear the other versus that producer Kenny Rogers (yes, 'that' Kenny Rogers) cut out. The overt drug references had to go of course, but the song chronicled the journey and progression of a 1950's kid into a '60s hippie and back. It's a terrific song! Quite a nice piece of writing by Mr. Leopold.

I was in the middle of the desert on I-15 driving to Las Vegas to work from Saint George Utah a 1 hour 45 minute commute both ways every day listening to Howard like every AM. My shop was by the airport under the main runway approach path. Aircraft Silence was very eerie for a few weeks and the drive home on the 11th was odd too. Hardly anyone on the freeway as I headed back home to Saint George Utah.

Loved these guys, this band, and their music. Whats kinda of spooky is they died in order from right to left in this photo of them. 😢

My father was a lawyer in NYC on 9/11. He was arguing the biggest case of his career at the New York City Court House. A warning popped up on the TV of potentially affected sites on CNN. The NYC Court House was the 2nd on the list after the Congressional Building in DC. I remember seeing my mother drop to her knees when she saw it, she hadn’t been able to reach him for 35 minutes because of the cell phone interference in the city. I was 8 and I remember seeing my mom crumble on the floor because she thought my dad was killed. About 3 hours later my dad ran up our stairs, soot stained into his suit. He still has a nasty cough from running through the debris. It was truly a horrific day.
