      Unfortunately not, not as far as I know. The basemap is normally the latest one. However, you can search ArcGIS Online to see if your country's surveyor perhaps makes a time series of images available as a WMS.

    • @gisatup9675
      @gisatup9675 5 месяцев назад

      Apologies, you must click the outline of the polygon you want by clicking the left mouse button. You finalise the selection by right-clicking. The polygon should now disappear and your features should be selected. 1) For the normal select, left-click, hold down and draw the extent. Release the button to select your features. 2) For the polygon select, left-click in sequence to draw the outline, right-click to complete the polygon. The polygon will disappear but your features will be selected. 3) For freehand, left-click and release, draw the outline of the area you wish to select by moving the mouse on the screen (no need to click a button). When you are happy with the area indicated for selection, left-click again. Your features will now be selected. 4) For the radius select, follow the same steps as for 3), but here how far you move your mouse is indicative of the radius used for selection. Note, that you can only select features that can be selected. You must click on the layer in your TOC to allow it to be selected.

    Can you create a simple base map from scratch?

    • @gisatup9675
      @gisatup9675 6 месяцев назад

      Yes, but you would have to add all the layers yourself and symbolise them appropriately. You would need, for example, a road layer and other transportation lines (like railways), towns and cities, and some kind of background. The background is not entirely necessary - it depends on what your need is.

      @@gisatup9675 I'd like to create a very simple base map: The entire globe with all land mass as white and all water bodies as blue. Simple. No roads, rails, cities, populations, etc. I can't seem to figure out how to do this very simple thing. Any tips?

    • @gisatup9675
      @gisatup9675 6 месяцев назад

      That is simple. Download a world country layer - simply search for 'world country layer' or 'world country feature class'. Add the layer to your map and symbolise appropriately. You can use a dark outline and a white or light fill, or a grey fill with a light outline for the countries. If you want to show only the continents download a continent layer instead. Then make the oceans look blue by giving the map a background colour. So you basically only need one layer to make this basemap.

QGIS has a way to do this directly. Use the install the Contours plugin to do so. It is nicely described here: www.geodose.com/2018/05/how-to-create-contour-lines-in-qgis.html

    • @gisatup9675

      Do you mean it is not longer visible on your toolbar? Make sure the Project Toolbar is active (tick box checked) under View > Toolbars. The tool will also not work if you don't have geospatial layers added to your project. For example, if you have added a CSV or txt file, then it will be grayed out, since there is no geospatial component to such files. First create a geospatial layer, or add one, to use the tool.
