Somehow I missed this lesson in my Quilting 101 class...like a lot of quilters I made many tops before I learned to actually quilt them. I realized when I went to quilt them all that many had fullness in the border and this caused huge problems on the longarm. I finally learned to match the size of opposite borders, pinning as you do the centre and ends. Makes everything better!!!

You know this is life changing

It is worth remembering that the strips you use to frame blocks or motifs within the quilt are also borders!! And need to be measured and matched just the same way you demonstrate with actual borders.

Thank you Kathy, I had not thought about securing the fabric without pins, great method! I, like you, must have the raw edges not visible. It must be tidy! 😊 I have been storing my fabric on comic boards for years, probably nearly two decades. I’m on my fifth (or maybe sixth 🙄) package of Comic Book Cardboard. I organize by collection and genre (Christmas, Chanukah, children, stripes, white on white, etc.). Depending on how much I purchase of a collection, I find less that a half a yard does not fit well on the cardboard, I will keep the fat quarters with the yardage in a collection together, it is easier to locate when I finally make the project. I love being tidy, I love seeing all my fabrics neatly organized on my shelving units and I can easily see where things are that I want to use. 🥹

But how much is too much to try and ease in?

Just a suggestion. If you put the side with the excess fabric down , you can use the feed dogs to ease in the fabric.it is still a slow process. Thank you for your share of you border technique.
