Longtime reader, romance Booktuber!
I'm a nerd who loves to read, and to gush and/or complain about books. The bulk of my reading is romance.
I know I kind of ramble, hopefully that's what you're here for!

Instagram ads choose my TBR! 3 books
I started taking screenshots of book ads on Instagram, and then I read three advertised books in this vlog! Might do a sequel in the future, choosing different subgenres-- what do you think?

Weekend Vlog: Reindeer Readathon || Weekly Update, start of December
Ooo okay def gotta pick up triple sec soon!!
Fun experiment. I don't really do social media besides RUclips and I have Premium so I don't see a lot of marketing chatter. It's interesting to know they'll promote books like this.
there was definitely a bias toward new books too-- was being shown ads for the newest titles even if they were 4th+ in a series. Was a fun experiment, may do another round in the future!
I also hate the hatred within the LGBT community that is described here. Why are we fighting ourselves instead of continuing to fight together against the patriarchy?
I liked the plot it was interesting (I've read all three books), but I agree with you about the spicy scenes and not being romantic.
You are on a podcast!! That's so exciting!
Love a good dystopian novel, I'll have to keep Imogen Keeper and Debbie Cassidy in mind
ugh, the third act conflict in yours truly literally always annoys me when I remember it lol, but I loved Jacob! Sad you didn't love Ravensong, but I get it lol, Gordo is just exactly my favorite sort of character and that's why I love him 😂
Salt Houses sounds like an interesting book I'd never read. Guess that's what makes book groups so helpful. The Cull looks really cool. I enjoy alien romanced the spider's mate sounds like a fun romp but I can't imagine being ok with large half spider people lol. Shame about The Tea Girl, it has an interesting name and cover
Wolfsong! 😍
Good reading month, you might not have read "a lot" but you have a great variety.
"I don't know who set up this whole capitalism thing" 🤣 Same! Still hoping in the future we'll figure out a better system to feed and house folks and to generally be wiser with limited resources we're wasting to keep people consuming. But glad you had a good vacation and that you found time to read and vlog while working.
I just finished the book and i loved it !!! I definitely agree with your opinion and you deserve so much more followers because your review is truly amazing ! Good job :)
aww, thank you for your kind words! Glad you found a book you loved, that's one of the best feelings ever! Have you read other Alexis Hall books?
Hi <3
I can hang with variety and inconsistency 😎
I’ve been happy to see you posting so much more.
Love the photos from the falls. The one time I went it was winter so everything was frozen and icy.
oooo I think the falls in the winter would be so cool! Probably shiny and pretty in a different way 💚
@@LaurasLibraryCard By the time I saw it, all the rails had frozen snow piled on them, the water looked like a slushy and the lamp posts had icicles which was awesome.
So glad you liked Part of Your World! I’ve always been hesitant to try the Roughest Draft bc I heard cheating is involved and I just can’t mess with that.
I did really enjoy Part of Your World while I was reading it, but here only a month later and I feel like I've forgotten most of it?? weird The Roughest Draft was weird-- I'd heard really mixed reviews, but chose to ignore the lower GR rating, to my own detriment! 🤦♀️
You crushed it this month!
Thanks! 🥰
Such a great reading month 💕💕
Thanks, it was! 🥰
I love the autism representation in the love quotient not a lot media shows nonwhite autistic characters
And Michael was such a dreamy great guy to Stella! ✨✨
My favorite doctor romance is probably dating dr.dil
I've heard mixed reviews-- what did you like about Dating Dr Dill?
... I feel like you articulated everything I didn't even realise I was wondering while reading Tress earlier in the year. (And I also probably should have read with my eyeballs rather than just the audio because so much went over my head. 😂)
It took awhile to get used to the audiobook, but I ultimately stuck it out. I think the narration style lent a more YA tone, or lighthearted tone. 🤷♀️
Hey! Love your vlog! You don't have to dive into the entirety of Cosmere. The books and series stand on their own pretty well. You see the connections mostly in small easter eggs and Hoid. Although it does start to converge more and more, especially with The Lost Metal and the newer Secret Project entries set in the Space Age of Cosmere. I would recommend to start with Mistborn Era 1 (The Final Empire, The Well of Ascension, The Hero of Ages) The first book in that trilogy can be read as a standalone, in case it doesn't end up being your thing This trilogy also features a female lead, so you would get a taste of how Brandon handles that To your point about magic and technology, Brandon Sanderson has very intricate magic systems that sometimes do feel like science (different magic systems from different planets are also compatible and work under the same general principles, which makes for great theorizing). I can totally understand how it could be a bit confusing to get to the end of a whimsical fantasy book and find all that sci-fi stuff, but it's actually not necessarily science. For the characters, it is science, but it is achieved by combining elements of what we would call magic
Thanks for watching, and for this beautiful response! I've heard a lot of love for Mistborn, so it's good to have that has a future next point. I enjoyed Tress enough that I would read another by Sanderson, thanks for the recommendation! Oooo your description of the magic and science and how they are presented throughout Sanderson's Cosmere is super intriguing! I've read a few books I'd categorize as urban fantasy, which often are set in a relatively modern setting and have post-1900s technology (if not contemporary tech) but that also have magic-- and have yet to find a world/story where I love the integration of both elements. I can see how considering the reader versus in-book character can really influence the perspective of if something is magic or not. Thanks!
Brandon Sandersons writing style and magical system is magical
I really enjoyed the use of the spores to make this setting be so unique! I wasn't always sure when something happening was 'magic' or 'unexplained science' though...
Also the cosmere is massive but it's broken up into some trilogies and standalone that happen in the same universe but you don't have to read them all! History is a good trilogy and Warbreaker is a good standalone for a Sanderson starting point :)
Interesting-- someone else recommended Mistborn as the next book by Sanderson I should read. Have you read it?
@LaurasLibraryCard I have read mistborn era 1 which is a trilogy! It's a solid fantasy read and has a good magic system. It's also has a bit of politics mixed in but not an overwhelming amount. I really enjoyed all three books but book 1 was my favorite of them.
Yay game night! I haven't thought about Apples to Apples in so long. I can't wait for the Tress clog. I haven't read that one but I do love Sanderson.
Narration works better I’m certain. Media then other
Most of the time if I'm listening to an audiobook the narration is either excellent or not something I take much notice of. It's unusual for me to be unhappy with an audiobook... I mean, sometimes just reading with my eyes is best for what's going on mentally, but I'm quicker to take responsibility over an audio 🤷♀️
I’ve heard amazing things about the prospect
I've just finished The Prospects today! You'll have to stay tuned for the vlog of my thoughts, but sneak peek: I liked it but didn't love it.
Flawless is definitely the weakest in the series. i still enjoyed it a lot (don’t get me wrong) but it’s my least fav for sureeeee. please don’t let it deter you from reading other books in the series!
oh really? That's good to hear! I didn't hate it, I could see myself reaching for the next in the series when I'm in the mood for a cowboy 🤠
THE PEACH POP-UP 🤣🤣 so so good
hehehe 🍑
The bit about him doing her Wednesday crossword with NO objection from her almost sent me over. I also sped through the last half of this book in a fit of rage because tell me why Nora couldn't just pick up the phone and send a text other than "hey."
Nora didn't object to a THING that he did that to me seemed to be red flags left and right! And I 100% agree, in this day and age I'd be sending like 5 texts before officially giving up 🙄
i’m so happy you enjoyed here!!! it’s so underrated
I've recommended it to multiple since I've read it!
I was trying so hard to get through this book bc I've seen so many recommendations and even a comparison to Emily Henry books... but with the way it was set up I couldn't imagine liking it. Like why are you interested in a man who's rude, drinking in front of your kids, acting like he owns your house, and reminds you of your ex??? This vid is validating my feelings.... dnfffff
also i get way too frustrated when miscommunication and lack of confrontation is a trope that's replayed over and over
haha same! I was seeing reviews saying how swoony the male lead is, and I was like...?? in what way is this stranger who you aren't communicating with such a perfect match?? Good for you for DNFing when it's not working!
@@ladycakecup2343 I truly don't mind when some basic miscommunication happens, but if the entire plot hangs on it? or if it's really so stupid a situation as this book? pass!
I was so interested to see what you thought of Every Heart a Doorway because it is so strange. The other books are also very storylike without an overarching plot point to follow. I enjoy the books when I want a quick read.
I can definitely see how they're quick reads and how being self-contained may be something I'd reach for (instead of starting an ongoing series). This first book sorta felt like an experiment to me? Like the author maybe had multiple ideas of worlds but not really fleshed out, and thought 'how can I write books that fit a vibe but don't require me to have a ton of explanation about the next cool world idea?' maybe I'm thinking too much about it? I did like it fine
💖💖💖
Hey fellow loser!! 👋🏻😂 You killed it.
I keep seeing Ensnared on Facebook. It's good to actually hear from someone who has read it!
This video is going to help me and my plus size people reading books about plus size people book club
that's great! both Space for Love and The No-Girlfriend Rule feature plus size main female characters!
A Laura reading vlog! 💖💖💖 Hopefully you helped the cashier make an informed choice about Pucking Around. 😂 My sister started reading it a while back and I nearly fell off my chair because she's not a romance reader or a big reader in general and she was like 'Have you read this...?'
I sought out PA because of the multiple partners, lol-- didn't want someone else to be in for a surprise. Even though I feel like the blurb does say there are 3 guys... Did your sister end up liking it?
@@LaurasLibraryCard She got half-way through and it automatically returned to the library (which, fair, she had a 4 month old at the time) but she keeps telling me she wants to go back and finish it because she was enjoying it.
The one definitely counts for that new tech prompt!
well good, it's too late now! 😂😂
I for what I’m glad that you accidentally got another year subscription to your editing software lol
aww, thanks! my creative urges ebb and flow, so I've been on the fence about continuing. BUT now that I've spent money... I feel like I should make that purchase 'count' haha
Omg yay you posted!!
The book sounds so messy 😮😂Oh my goodness! The only way I could have this particular storyline played out is in a Lifetime movie. A Lifetime movie on a sunny Sunday with popcorn and lemonade. But, I hear you. I can't read it. I can't. 😂 -Bri
When the major conflict hinges upon people just choosing not to confront one another or ask simple questions it is definitely frustrating. Thank you for the review, I really feel like I got a good sense of the story dynamics. ❤
Haha I love a rant video! Especially when its not a book that I've been anticipating. Thanks for letting us hear your unfiltered thoughts!
Wow... this books sounds like a lot. 🫣
Nora Goes off Script sounds a great title.
I’m not a content creator but it just seems so exhausting to me, even more when you don’t get the interaction you hoped for. I hope the best for you tho!!! 💓🫶🏽✨
Interesting perspective! I can relate to what you're saying. I'm still a fairly new Booktuber and just beginning to explore the joys and pitfalls.
This really is the average experience on Booktube/RUclips sphere. The platform itself is not conducive to longer form of developing friendship (and finding/making/maintaining friendships is HARD). One of my reflections has been that it's hard as a content creator (who has to do the thing to make the thing) is finding the time to also support and comment with fellow creators, because there's only so much time we have in the day. All that said, I'm incredibly grateful that I got to know you through the Love in the Night readathons and through your video content because you're incredibly thoughtful in your reviews and I love that you talk about books that are not always the new/popular titles. I am terrible at keeping up with Discord, but I'm always around on IG (just usually timezone delayed 😂). xx
I think at the start I was just so excited to talk about books and when I kept hearing people say over and over how amazing the community is (and that being their reason for joining/staying etc)... the element of 'does this platform even work for what I want' was hard to ascertain until I'd been using it. Thanks for your comments about my reviews-- coming from someone who is so widely read and is very insightful about what elements make a book special, that's high praise! 💚 You've always been incredibly kind to me, thank you! Would love to do another buddy read sometime on IG 😁
@@LaurasLibraryCard Absolutely. Anytime you want to buddy read, let me know - or even just to chat 💖
