This was a very reassuring video. It was so great to hear about how Suleika's mother was able to care for her own needs as well as her daughter's. It is something I need to remember often when caring for my own daughters when they become ill or struggle with mental health issues. Suleika's learning outcome too is inspiring. The challenge of cancer appears to have allowed her to go deeper into her self and pull out qualities that serve her well, such as compassion, humility, etc. It is not easy to lose independence and have to rely on others for care. But she has done a wonderful job: she and her mother both. Hats off to them. :-D

Great story and I hope there are nurses and practitioners who watch this and understand how important communication, compassions and empathy are, as well as understanding the historical and contextual experiences of certain populations.

How about those of us “Chronic pain” patients that are being weened off pain meds without any plan to address their pain? Is there any advocates for them? I’m in Michigan and the Pain Management closed their doors so they had to ween me off Morphine, now my PCP is weening me off Norco. Zero plan to address my pain. So because I’m not dying of cancer I don’t get pain relief! I have NEVER abused my meds and they are the only thing that has help me! Not every pain can be treated without opioids either! You “think” how about don’t treat us like lab rats! My spine is broken most of it is fused together but the part that isn’t fused together is broken, your “expert” opinions is worthless..the evidence is opioids are the only thing that has allowed me to have some kind of life! 20 years of evidence!

Hard to believe this year’s patient congress is only a month away. I learned a valuable lesson by sharing this story -- don't share a story that I am still emotionally healing from. 😅 Emotion & brain fog got the best of me Seriously though, I am always thankful for NPAF offering opportunities like this to have our voices heard. Thank you!
