let’s start an online coffee shop pop-up (say that five times fast)!!! we’ll call this kind of a preliminary planning/preparation video where we go through some of the things we’ve done and still need to do to be ready to open. this is our second time opening our online coffee store- reverie/brew reverie- and this time around, it's for a limited time only.
this video is less about the logistics of opening an online business- we can get more into those later- and more...

one year ago, my bf and I took a 12-hour trip to adopt our pomeranian mix puppy from a rescue! It is hard to believe that we have had him for over a year now, but it is so fun to look back on this video from when we first got him. I originally uploaded this on a different account but removed it from there to post here instead on the one-year mark :) the last year has proved to me just how much ...

Hello! Welcome to another sit-down video where I go through every job and wage/salary I’ve had in my 20's so far. i'm assuming your major was communications? i've been out of school for a while and want to go back, but my main issue is having no specific major or career in mind. would you say communications allows for a broad selection of jobs?

    • @sabrayne
      @sabrayne Месяц назад

      My major was English! but, yes, communications is very similar. In my experience, a lot of jobs will look for people in a range of majors and communications, marketing, english, etc are all grouped together! The important thing is being able to "market" yourself and your skills to show how they align with your desired job :) best of luck in going back to school!!

    • @OkStop
      @OkStop Месяц назад

      Yes there are many opportunities for Communications majors. I agree with Sabrina, it’s how you market yourself that will ultimately help you land a job. Then with few years of work experience in your career field, your experience will speak for itself.

    Honestly as someone that's also fairly young, and really into finances (studied them, work related to them, liked the topic since young, and its a really good way of keeping up with what's going on in the world, so its definetly one of my main hobbies aswell) I can confidently say that the hardest part of focusing in your finances since early on, for me, has been looking arround at my peers having fun spending all of their -or their parent's- money away care free. Thankfully, life brought me to be extremely long-term focused, so it's not hard for me to follow my own path with budgets, investment plans etc (and it's enjoyable, honestly) but it's something you always have in the back of your mind. Gets easier over time at least, when it starts to show meaningful results - and when you realize how trully little people make out of those trips, shopping sprees etc since most go for them to try to live up someone else's social media life or trends, and not their own.

    I'm 34 and in Australia so this is all in AUD, but it's also all including Superannuation (similar to your 401k, but it's mandatory here all employers have to pay into your fund). But thought it would be good for others who come across your video to see more salary progressions. For context I work in IT, my first few jobs were casual. Casuals in Australia earn more per hour but it's harder to get hours. Also for the full time jobs, it's very common for full time workers in Australia to be on Enterprise Bargaining Agreements with their employers, which define annual salary increases based on CPI (the rise in the price of goods and services/inflation). 2005: $17/hr (but I could only get 7 hours a week) 2006: $19/hr (same as above) 2007: $19/hr & $12/hr (2 different jobs, both around 7 hours each) 2008: $19/hr & $10/hr (2 different jobs, just one job changed) 2009: $21/hr & $10/hr (same 2 jobs as 2008) 2010: $28k/year (First IT job) 2011: $60k/year (2nd IT job) 2012: $65k/year (same job) 2013: $68k/year (same job) 2014: $65k/year (3rd IT job, took a pay cut but better opportunity) 2015: $67k/year (same job) 2016: $72k/year (same job, got a raise) 2017: $93k/year (4th IT job) 2018: $96k/year (same job) 2019: $108k/year (5th IT job, but same business) 2020: $140k/year (6th IT job) 2021: $140k/year (7th IT job, technically took a pay cut for this, but better opportunity) 2022: $150k/year (Same job, but pay rise) 2023: $185k/year (8th IT job) 2024: $207k/year ( 9th IT job, but same business) The main things I've learnt was to focus on career growth early on. If you find a good opportunity to learn but it's not paying that well, if you can afford to take that job you should do it anyway and gain those skills that you can use to get an even bigger pay rise from someone else later. The skills I've learnt now, will allow me to work for myself. I am still trying to gain a bit more experience in the area of IT i've specialised in so I can feel confident to lose the security of full time employment, as I am the sole income in my household with a mortgage. Once you have a job, don't stop looking for new opportunities. As you can see during covid the market for IT workers was really hot, so I was able to jump around a lot and essentially double my pre covid income. A lot of this was just talking with recruiters fairly regularly, browsing what jobs are available. Applying for jobs that I thought I probably wasn't skilled for yet but if I did get it, it would be a big boost to my knowledge and pay. Eventually you'll land one. Salary creep is real, try to keep your expenses the same when you move to new jobs so you can invest more as you earn more. I still have the same things and spend around the same as I did back in 2018, inflation has meant that I spend less on frivolous things than I did back in 2018, but the overall amount that I do spend is the same. The goal here is to convert the salary into assets that can generate money so I am wealthier in the future and not reliant on salary for income.

    Ayyy, my first job was also on-campus, making $9.25. I was the software dev for my school; I created the attendance tracking system used by my university. 2019: $9.6k - Software dev for my college (part time) 2020: $60k - Software dev (1st job out of college) 2022: $92.5k - Software dev (2nd full time job) 2023: $98.8k - (yearly raise) 2024: $107k - (yearly raise) People say college is useless, but choose degrees that are useless to society. As long as you choose a degree that has a good tuition-to-salary ratio, college is the best decision you could make.

    • @DailyCOD4
      @DailyCOD4 Месяц назад

      If everyone became a software engineer your salary expectations would go down. Not everyone can or should be an engineer and just because someone doesn't make a lot of money doesn't make them "useless to society."

      Saying there's useless degrees shows how narrow minded you are. Its true if you want to make money then you should pick a good tuition to salary ratio but there's no such thing as a useless degree. Where will the world be without writers, artists, psychologists, etc? Some people actually have passions and are content even if they don't make a high salary. if we all chose STEM, the wages would plummet. Seems to me college didn't make you smarter unfortunately.

    I really appreciate the transparency with it, the only things I notice is the concept of 'Access and Opportunity'. To which these things are crucial in being 'lucky' in certain situations. All this to say, moving with a boyfriend to Manhattan of all places is one of the luckiest things that could happen and one could argue that this move was a huge help for her journey.

    • @sabrayne
      @sabrayne Месяц назад

      I totally agree that I was super fortunate to move to Manhattan with my boyfriend-I am super grateful for this opportunity, regardless of any role it played in my salary progression. I think the true "luck" in my journey was that the person who selected my resume for the interview process at my current role went to the same university I did. I think little connections like that can play a huge role in bringing you "luck."
