It was great to hear that Jim is doing well. I was worried about what may have happened after the severe flooding in May. I visited CABA, Montevideo, Floripa, SP, RJ last December. I ended up not going to Porto Alegre because I had already slice up my short trip so much. When I saw the magnitude and the effects of the flooding beginning in May, my heart sank. I will be returning to Brasil again towards the end of year. I was wondering what the conditions of Porto Alegre as well as the surrounding small cities. Videos of the surrounding towns showed continued rain as well as a huge amount of clean up. I do share the concern of a place becoming too popular and attracting people who are not interested in integrating into the culture.

Talk about a biased source if you are referencing facilitators. I called the several offices around the country and since beginning of August they have stop processing for this program. Sure you can still get it done in Yucatán or Q.R. but the big cities (Cancun/PDC/Merida) won’t accept any expired visa that was less than 6 months (which you aren’t going to get less than 6 months if you’re flying in to any MX airport) and you will have a long wait. And if I try to do the program through an office in a city that you currently don’t reside in to try to get it done quicker (as they inevitably stop by the program by the end of the year), they will do a house check to make sure you actually live in their town/city. Not saying you can’t get it done if you start asap, but just don’t expect to get away with cheating (eg land border run for shorter visa, and other tricks) nowadays. Everyone was cheating years ago but you won’t get away with it now that the program has almost ended. My personal opinion is that the few offices that still do it, likely won’t be doing it in October once the new federal government gets in.
