Exactly!
Saw this game in person at the Palestra. One of the best college games I ever saw.
Wilt did too much aves mins fouls pts rebs blks asts stl for a example a quintuple double how many players have those numbers I'll wait please take your time
This is Wilt playing for Overbrook high school in Philadelphia vs West Catholic at Palestra in 1954
March 19, 1992.
Sean McDonough's 1st ESPN Game in College Basketball in the early 90's. [Until few-months later in April with MLB of Tuesday's in the 1990 season]
Do you have any games with Tabby Cunningham from 2005 2006
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wilt is the greatest player ever. The record book proves it. But give me Russell on my team.
Right about the time this documentary was made, I was a teenager trying to get a basketball scholarship. I found a way to sneak into the Palestra late at night. Made a deal with the night custodian. I would do some work for him, then he'd leave and I'd shoot from 11pm to 1am or so with just one spotlight over one basket on. Pitch dark except for a cone of light out to about the three point line (gradually dimmer further from the hoop) then suddenly dark. It was spiritual, like basketball church. I've played and done drills on literally hundreds of courts of all types all over the country. But shooting from the darkness and seeing the ball go in under the light... in the greatest gym in the world was the best feeling. I haven't been back in many years, but that period and those late nights are one of my best memories.
Wilt R.i.p. I know we know I win, wish you were around to say you the man. Condolences
In high school, before I went away to play on scholarship, I had a way to get into the Palestra late at night and practiced from 10-11pm past midnight many nights. Just one basket spotlight on. Pitch dark except for a cone of light from the hoop to pretty much right at the 3 point line. It was almost like basketball church. In those conditions the sound, sight, and feeling of a perfect deep jumper (shot from the dark into the light) is something that can't be described... only experienced.
Wemby of Spurs is no dominater like Wilt who scored 37.5 Ave and 24 rebounds his rookie year. These people who think Wemby will be the best ever 😂 no way
Great times! Great basketball! A wonderful way to finish out a wonderful decade! A decade in which will never be repeated...
Great stuff. Thanks for posting this
28:23 That’s right Mr. Al Meltzer! His number was retired now by the 76ers 23 years ago.
Exactly!🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀!
The best ever, no doubt.
I watched Kenny play numerous times at the Palestra. Growing up in the Frankford section of Philly I'd take the El downtown to see all the Excellent Big Five players back in the day.
Philly ball!!!!
At 5'9" , stocky, from IN, and graduated HS in '91, loved Parrish's game. I still play. I was telling some kids about him and Google to see what became of him. OMG!
Yeah. Definately a bummer for him.
Big Red (fox) - Tree
Yep......good ones
Found this from seeing Duquesne playing today in 2024 and winning their first NCAA game since 1969 when they beat St. Joe's in the 1st Round And saw they also played the 68-69 LaSalle team at The Spectrum that went 23-1 that starred Kenny Durrett from Pittsburgh Schenley HS. Same HS that produced NBA star Maurice Lucas among others. Sad to see Kenny died pretty young.
02:57 The demeanor of #12 says it all... Why bother. It's not going to do any good.
02:30 Crazy how narrow the lane is.
Great visuals, but that triumphant background music got very old very quickly. If you got to have music, mix it up. Don't pound a simple repetitive theme so damned long.
Awesome
The Real GOAT
Alien
55 rebounds in one game? Average of over 22 rebounds a game ? INSANE!
Amazing footage! So much that I haven't seen before. Thank you.
The most impressive thing here , is the players not breaking their ankles in the low top converse
10:16 Wilt was already looking like Giannis after weight training in high school, man was so ahead of his time.
WILT THE ONLY REAL G.O.A.T. (OG) Magic Johnson ruclips.net/video/Ae4UhI-o_Fg/видео.htmlsi=WkT_lp8RZKMICo0S WILT THE GREATEST TO PLAY THE GAME when Jordan met WILT ruclips.net/video/2a188--I9F0/видео.htmlsi=iliPXKiIQT8yPpZ0 Enough said
Wilt blocked/grabbed shots out of the air like a rebound. Greatest athlete ever
they say he averaged about 8 blks/game
The only other player you could argue that had multiple rule changes made primarily because of his dominance was Dick (Night Train) Lane. His face mask tackle was made illegal, and then his close line tackle was made illegal. Then he creates the forearm shiver, which not too long after also became illegal.
Lasalle legends hall of famers Doug Overton lionel Simmons Great players
Simmons graduated the year before. Randy Woods did an admirable job filling the void but La Salle could not replicate their 30 win 1989-90 season.
He Never played for them, this dumb as hell
Doug overton great point guard legend hall of famer Doug was a great solid nba player as well great career one of my favorite players Darryl chick washington
44:33
36:11
Throw in Carl Lewis and Bo Jackson
0:37-2:19.
Go golden eagles
Wilt was and still is the best!
Odom...too good for his own good. A NIGHTMARE cover.
This St Joe's team was so dam good they were a blast to watch..Delonte West and Jameer Nelson was one of the best back court in the nation
Do you have that old lasalle vs rhode island game back in i think 2001 when zach marbury played for rhode island? The game was at lasalle
MJ scored 50+ points 31 times for career, Kobe did it 25 times. Wilt did it 45 times in a single season. Nobody except Wilt Chamberlain ever recorded a 30-20 avg season - Wilt did it for career. Wilt scored 40 pts average for 6 consecutive seasons (515 games). Next in list is Elgin Baylor with 33 games. Wilt has more 30-30 games than the whole rest of the league combined. Wilt also has more 60 points games than the whole rest of the league combined. Wilt blocked 23 shots in a single game on full video footage (1968 xmas day game vs Suns). He grabbed 55 rebounds in a single game w/o overtime vs the #2 all time leader in rebounding, Bill Russell (Wilt is rank #1). He scored 62 points in a single game w/o overtime on the argueable best defender of all times, Bill Russell. No doubt he is the GOAT. Imagine averaging 50-25 for a season and don't getting the MVP trophy. Happened to Wilt 1962 - they gave it to Bill Russell (19-23). Nobody roots for Goliath. NBA did and does his best to make us forget about the greatness of Wilt Norman Chamberlain.
Jordan pile up 1 stat anyone can average 30 ppg ( 13 guys last season have 30 or more) far more impressive Bird career double double 20 ppg, 10 rpg, 7 apg on 50-40-90 !! Wilt is beyond anyone. 30 ppg 23 rpg 9 bpg on 46 mpg first in all 4 stats and steals too but no one recorded.
See the dudes Wilt is playing against? Average players today at your local YMCA would beat most of those guys they’re barely 6 foot, non athletic, don’t have much skill and are extremely uncoordinated. Wilt is still amazing, I’m not denying that. He would be great in any era but he doesn’t average more than 30-35 ppg in today’s NBA even in his prime.
@@kissmyvansdude It's quite simple: Embiid averaged 33.1 ppg playing 34.6 mpg avg last season (MVP), and is averaging 35.3 ppg playing 34 mpg avg for the actual season. Wilt was able to play 48 min per game in his prime (45.8 mpg avg for career, never fouled out) at full throttle on even higher pace than today. Do the math. I can't understand why people think he wouldn't dominate games today while watching Giannis and Embiid already doing it. Wilt was superior to both of them in any physical aspect. Don't confuse evolution of the game with talent and Basketball IQ. Wilt would adapt to todays game like he adapted to any sport he competed in at high level (volleyball, track&field, etc.). You act like they had the brain capacity of neandertalers back in the 60s. Prime Wilt scored 48 pts (62 max) or more pts on Bill Russell (argueable the greatest defender of all times) and the 1962 Celtics (7 HoF players) 5 times in a single season. He also grabbed 55 rebounds vs Bill Russell (#2 all time rebounder) in a single game w/o overtime 1967. If you consider this as weak competition I can't help. A year 2000 born Wilt Norman Chamberlain benefitting from improved gear (esp. court, shoes, board and hoop), medical care, nutrution, training facilities and methods, information technology, transport, etc. would DESTROY todays league. He was a true athlete up there with Bo Jackson and Jim Thorpe. btw: From 1973-2019 players were measured with shoes. Wilt and his competition were measured barefoot. Difference in average height of starting centers 1963 compared to 2021 is less than a half inch. Difference in average height of all starting players 1963 compared to 2021 is also less than a half inch. Some players Wilt faced: HoF centers: Nate Thurmond (6'11", 235 lbs.) Walt(er) Bellamy (6'11", 225 lbs.) Bob Lanier (6'11", 265 lbs.) Lew Alcindor aka Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (7'2", 225 lbs.) Bob Pettit (6'9", 220 lbs.) Zelmo Beaty (6'9", 230 lbs.) Bill Russel (6'10", 215 lbs.) Elvin Hayes (6'9", 235 lbs.) Wes Unseld (6'7", 245 lbs.) Jerry Lucas (6'8", 230 lbs) Willis Reed (6'10", 235 lbls). 6'11" or taller: Ray Felix 6'11" Chuck Share 6'11" Walter Dukes 7'0" Swede Halbrook 7'3" Reggie Harding 7'0" Mel Counts 7'0" Walt Wesley 6'11" Hank Finkel 7'0" Craig Spitzer 7'0" Craig Raymond 6'11" Otto Moore 6'11" Rich Niemann 7'0" Tom Boerwinkle 7'0" Dave Newmark 7'0" Greg Fillmore 7'1" George Johnson 6'11" Elmore Smith 7'0" Tom Payne 7'2" Vic Bartolome 7'0" Jim McDaniels 6'11" William Smith 7'0" George Johnson 6'11"* LaRue Martin 6'11" Except Kareem no player in NBA history had to face more HoF players on his position than Wilt did, nobody faced more per game (8 up to 10 teams for the majority of his career). 35 of 90s starters wouldn't even get a bench spot in 60s NBA, because of only 8 (up to 10) teams. *yes, another George Johnson, 6'11"
If Wilt was on Celtics and Russell was on 76ers,Lakers or Frisco Boston would have won same amount of titles or more.Russell had bette4 teammates Wilt didn't except the year 76ers won and set season record for more wins
And nobody ever averaged more rebounds a season or career along with a record that will never be broken the fabulous 50.4 season average and probably not another 100 point game or play 48 minutes a game all season.Younger people youtube Wilt you'll learn fast who the greatest was
